To hug her friend at school, while both are wearing masks, but the high schoolers at her school can play football.

Having to listen to idiots talk about Covid 24-7. I'm not sure it's actually a rule, but some idiots on this board seem to think so.

Single entrance point at Walmart. Let’s condense everyone in a small space.
Don’t touch the flag on a golf course. Although that and separate carts sped up the game.

Beat me to it. Kroger in Starkville was the same way. Even though we still have to mask in Starkville, both entrances are open now at Walmart and Kroger.

We bought paddle boards and a kayak back in May - then our brilliant Austin Parks folks closed most public Lake Travis boat ramps.
Not much social distancing can be done on a kayak, maybe a little more on a paddle board, but regardless it 17d our summer water plans - and we were TRYING to distance ourselves.

Disclosure : some boat ramps stayed open on weekdays, not all, but the web site info was not up to date. We went out a few times and found a boat ramp closed, when web site said it was open.
Also not covid related but, they really clamped down on "public parking" near lake entrances over the last 10 years. It's all private marina parking except a few spots (which are closed). Awful.
If you have any california friends who want to move here, tell them to stay where they are.

Having to wear a mask into a restaurant only to take it off when you walk 10 feet and are seated at a table.

Curfews are pretty stupid... are you more likely to get Covid at 2 am than you are at the checkout at Wal Mart on a Friday Afternoon at 4?

In Atlanta, we haven’t been able to attend a Braves game. But you are allowed to go to the battery surrounding the ball park, eat and drink at all the restaurants, and sit on the lawn to watch the game going on inside the stadium.

I think the reasoning there is that you are more likely to be "under the influence" at 2 a.m. and therefore less cautious. That was why bars here closed at 11. They're open normal hours now.

Going into and leaving the gym you must wear a mask, but don't need one while working out.

One player testing positive with a 99.999999% chance of full recovery leading to the quarantining of entire sports teams or game cancellations.

Assigning online / remote learning only classes to HS students that have little if any internet access. I literally heard a HS administrator last week say we have to get the kids back in school, our grades are terrible.........yeah no **** Sherlock!

not a rule... but our local news (wtva) still reads the county totals every night. I mean, they literally spend minutes every night putting up the numbers on the screen and reading them off county by county.

I guess that was interesting in the first few weeks - but 6 months later? Who cares that Lee county has had 3157 cases or whatever, while Union county is now up to 1164 total cases. I just want to see the weather forecast for tomorrow.

The NPS closing the Gulf Islands National Seashore... i.e. the MS Barrier Islands.

A few months back, you could anchor at the islands and wade in the water but could not get on dry sand/beach.

Case numbers are stupid and serious illnesses and deaths should be our biggest metrics.

ICU beds occupied due to Covid and Deaths are what matters. Reporting that some 16yo tested positive but never even knew he had anything is one of the stupidest things ever in the history of stupid things.

It was that way at the National Island Seashore in Florida too. At its most crowded, that beach has groups of people at least 15 feet apart.

My wife teaches at a lower elementary school where half of the students are currently doing online school. High school students can barely do online school, how the heck are 5 and 6 year olds supposed to do it effectively? I’m concerned this type of stuff is going to have lasting effects on this generation of kids and have a big negative impact on their learning and social skills. And it’s all been a MAJOR headache for the teachers.

Problem: Spreading germs at the voting booth because the poll workers are going to touch IDs, pens and voting cards before handing them to voters.

Solution they came up with: Put them all in a basket and pass the basket to the voter. So now instead of touching three items that the voter will subsequently touch, we've added a fourth.

Teachers I have talked to say it’s a ton of work added to them and so far the results are terrible. One told me his zoom call lectures normally only have 25-30% attendance. My kids public school just went back every day, so at least they are seeing the deficiencies of the online mostly plan. I have hired a tutor to come in a few days a week to supplement my kids education, but what about the kids with less means? Unfortunately they just fall further and further behind.

Yes, I too fear we have permanently damaged the education of our school age children.

I've seen reports that say school kids will be anywhere from 4 months to 10 months behind by the start of 2021, depending on socioeconomic status and parental involvement. The gap between the haves and have-nots for these kids is getting bigger because of this.

but but but VRITUALLZ is going to take the place of face to face contact and we'll NEVERS have to travel aGAINA !!!11

Virtual crap freaking sucks. It's a bad substitute. It's not the beginning of any trend.

Sorry, this isn't a rule, per se, but more of a belief that the world will go virtual. I think we've shown that it can happen in temporary emergencies, or maybe every Friday, but full time it's just not happening. Humans are social creatures and that's not changing. I think the young people of today, from the college students to the rioters, have proven that you cannot quarantine people indefinitely. It doesn't work, boomers. People want (and will) live, one way or another.

One positive is my wife’s OBGYN work is booming. The stupid unnecessary lockdowns seem to be leading to one of the biggest baby booms of our lifetime. So now I know what all you fellers were doing a lot while you where “locked down”. She had over 30 prenatal visits one day this week and is averaging over 20 a day in our little small town. We better hope the economy comes roaring back as we will have lots of new mouths to feed!

The good part about schools generally being so ineffective is that kids in functional and semi-functional school districts will more or less catch up, or at least the ones in elementary school now. High schoolers that don't go on to college may miss out on stuff they don't catch up on.

It is a shame that the education of children takes a back seat to almost every other issue in politics. We could have had all the panic porn we wanted while still letting kids get educated.

I don't understand why parents of elementary school students wouldn't just decide to home school if they are going to do virtual. I get the parents that have checked out and having them at home in front of the tv while the computer is on is less work for them than having to get the kids up and out the door to school.

But doing home school would be easier for me than trying to get them to pay attention to a screen with a teacher on it. Will be able to move much faster just focused on a couple of children and be done with it in half the time compared to trying to keep them engaged in a slow moving lesson on a computer screen.

Teacher stress level is at an 11. Not only are they have to juggle teaching in classroom and virtual but also angry parents of the virtual kids saying they aren’t doing enough. Also many care about their kids and they see the struggles of the kids and especially the lower income virtual kids and ones where english is a second language. It’s heartbreaking.

We’re too stupid to realize this early on helps explain why so many schools suck in the first place.
