He has the potential. Just wish he played for a different team. At least he's getting quality coaching from a good coach and can use that moving forward.

Anyone else have a hard time feeling much for him?

He played with us for 1 year on a disappointing team, then left early for the NBA. Don't get me wrong, I want him to succeed, but I feel basically zero emotional connection to him the way I do for most ex-MSU players.

He sort of seems like the type that, if there were an NFL style lineup introduction where players claimed their universities, he would go the "Raleigh-Egypt High School, Memphis, Tennessee" route.

I'd much rather have seen Mario Austin, Roberts, Rhodes, or varnado been successful in the nba. I understand that one game doesn't mean moultrie's successful. Just saying

I don't think it's even close to fair to lump him in with some of his teamates on that team. If the rest of them had worked as hard as Moultrie did, played as hard as he did, and had as good of a attitude as he did, we would have gone to the Sweet 16 at a minimum that year and Stansury would still have a job.

He really gave up on us at the end of the season too. People forget that. His body language was awful.

Patdog just said Arnett Moultrie had a good attitude last year. The hits keep coming.

You have to look at who I'm comparing him to. He at least gave a decent effort and played well for us. If we had gotten anywhere near that kind of production relative to their potential from the rest of the team, we'd have had a good season last year.

Wonder how many players would've been kicked off team had ray been their coach.

I'm in this boat

I'm glad he transferred to MSU and I enjoyed watching him play last year, but I feel the same disconnect as you do. I have no doubt I'd feel different if the year had ended in the NCAA tourney and not with a 1st round NIT loss. I hope he's successful, but I won't keep up with how he's doing.

He did but he was one of the last to quit. I don't have any particular affinity for him, but considering the environment he was in, can't really blame him for it affecting him. Even if he wasn't an effort guy, had everybody on the team given the same amount of effort as he did through much of the season, our team would have been fine.

I'm not even sure he was the last to quit. Moultrie tanked against Auburn, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia twice at the end of the season. They were all fairly close losses except for Bama. We win two of those and we are likely in the tourney. There was plenty to play for.

He seemed to decide very late in the season that he needed to show the NBA that he had range on his jumper and started jacking up threes. Or should I say he TRIED to show the NBA that he had range on his jumper.

Uhhhhh.....no he didn't. I mean he tried five against UMass but in 10 of his last 14 games he didn't try a single three. He shot more than twice as many in each of his first two seasons at UTEP as he did his one year at State.

I guess I let the UMASS game cloud my thinking because I remember him jacking them up that night at very inopportune times.

There's not a stat (that I am aware of) for inopportune shots, but if there were, I suspect Mississippi State would have led the nation in that as a team the last five years. The individual stat this year would have been headed by Marshall Henderson.

As for Moultrie, he at least made two of those five against UMass.

Would of only taken Sidney playing hard.

Maybe. There was a lot more wrong with that team than just Sidney, but then again, Sidney would easily have been a 20/10 guy if he'd been willing/able to put in 30 hard minutes, and that kind of contribution might have made the difference.
