What are your thoughts on Starmount @ Mount Airy. This is always somewhat of a rival game over the years.
Last year, Mount Airy won a close regular season game 17-14, and then they met again in the 3rd round of the playoffs, and Mount Airy won that game 31-23. Both teams gave it their all. Mount Airy has 13 seniors returning as of today, and some good talent returning. Starmount has 17 seniors returning that I know nothing about, but I am sure there may be people from both teams who can post more about the teams than I found on MaxPreps tonight.

The Rams will return their starting linebackers which is huge with all 3 being all-conference. Also 2 defensive linemen that was all-conference. Secondary may have some younger guys there.

Offensively the Rams will have a new QB but with some key linemen returning is huge. Some skill at WR will return.

I would expect the Rams to be more run oriented as in past years.

Both teams should be really good. I think the defensive line of Mt Airy is a difference maker. That line is stacked. Both teams have several good athletes. Starmount has some really good linebackers. As Deana mentioned, I believe Starmount will be back to running the ball a lot more. It will be interesting to see.

Since the other folks haven’t seemed to moved over to the site yet, I guess I can provide what little info I have seen. Yes, there is an incoming freshman, Ahmad Francis Jr.. I think he moved from Summerville SC. Will he start as a freshman? I have no idea as I don't run in the cool kids circle. I really don't know much, but they posted something on the Go Bears FB page, and looked around based on that. He has a hudl and x account where you can see some highlights. Has been attending camps this summer and looks to be very good. Looks impressive considering his age, but is doing the hard work. We will find out if he starts or how it plays out in about 5 weeks time I guess unless one of the cool kids show up and tell us more.

I think this will be a competetive game, but I still expect Mount Airy to come out on top by a TD or 2. I think the defense from MA will very good again and offense to be a little better than last year. They should have a good year.

I am speaking purely from a "fan in the stands" position, but I have watched two 7 on 7's, one at West Forsyth and one at Mt Airy.
At WF against WF the Freshman and the Junior looked pretty even but I would give the Freshman the nod because of his decision making-where to throw and to whom to throw and when to throw.
The Junior was not at the 7 on 7 at Mt Airy but the Freshman was "lights-out" the best of the 6 QBs that day. He is just very good.

With all due respect to Starmount, which I think will be one of the 4 or 5 2A schools capable of going to the State Championship, this game being at Mt Airy could very well be a 3 or 4 touchdown win for the Bears. Their defense will be that good in my opinion.

I saw on the old boards that a sophomore who may be a QB and family moved here from, I think South Carolina. They have 3 possible QBs on their roster. They are loaded with Jrs. & Srs.

Schools have kids moving in and out of town all the time. If Mount Airy gets one new player, by the time it is told from one person to another, it becomes 4 or 5. :ROFLMAO: For all, I know, they have 5 new players and this will now turn to 6 or 8.:ROFLMAO:

Proof is in the pudding. Several have "moved in." Not just football, but others sports as well. Rich get richer. Example new heavyweight wrestler just transferred in from a big school south of MA. He probably will play football as well.

Is there new industry moving to Mt. Airy that these people are moving there? Where do these people work,
Mount Airy has several things moving in or expanding, including a new hotel downtown Mount airy. The City of Mount Airy is excited to sign the Development Agreement with Spencer's Hospitality LLC for the construction of a Marriott Tribute Hotel, to be christened "The Balladeer". This name pays homage to Mount Airy's rich musical heritage, reflecting its profound influence. You need to just come and spend a day touring Mount Airy.

I have not heard for sure what the tailgate menu will be for this home game against the Rams, but someone suggested Grilled Lamb Chops.
The only response that I have gotten so far is that Mt Airy has eaten these lambs so often the past decade that perhaps we should grill whatever is the lamb evaluate of veal.

Should of been the first to get it in my opinion but it won't never happen now I even hear that they declined the money in the first place that they didn't want turf
I read somewhere recently that they were getting turf, but when I read it, it was too late to get it this year; hopefully, by next year. If it is government money, we do have a midterm election coming up next year.

Anyone know the record between both teams over the years as they have played each other.

Close to even in the long term, but Mount Airy has won the last 5, 2 of which were last year regular and a playoff game. Deana, or the Mount Airy Bear Historian, can give you the total win/loss between them that goes back to maybe the early 1960s. Starmount last won in 2019, and they did not play in 2020 because of a COVID-19 short schedule. Starmount last won in 2019, 27-21. Each had their winning streaks.

Vik-Val, not sure what the long term record for these two teams, but my memory is recent years solidly Mt Airy but for a 10 year or so period before that it was Starmount hitting on all cylinders.

This year's game I think is much more important to 3A Mt Airy than to 2A Starmount. Starmount has really developed in the past couple of years but still not to the point of "handling" the Bears.
This year's Starmount should be the best in several years and ready to make its mark against the Bears. I have said they should be one of the west teams in the regional finals.

But a loss to the Bears will not hurt them nearly as bad as a Mt Airy loss would hurt the Bears in my opinion.
Mt Airy is on the verge of saying that they can play with the Shelby's of 3A. With 2 games against 6A teams (Watauga and St Stephens) and a 7A team if they were in NC (Va's Jefferson Forest with 1550 students), Mt Airy cannot afford a lost to either 2A Starmount or East Wilkes.

This game being at home I think helps Mt Airy and, in my humble opinion, is loaded in every department except perhaps at QB. There are two candidates, a junior and a much heralded freshman. I have seen him in two 7 on 7's and he does not look like any freshman QB I have seen. But those are not real games with big guys trying to get to you.

By the way, we will be tailgating before this game and would love to have you eat with us.

A starmount win here would be huge. They already will be one of the favorites in the 2a west this year, but a win here would perhaps make them THE favorite. MA is the one hurdle starmount can't get over if they can this year boy would it be a confidence boost. In regards to MA, they'll be really good this year imo. They do play a tough schedule though. Playing that tough schedule can only help though. They will be one of the top teams in the West. That being said it's hard to beat against Shelby. The QB for Shelby went to the Peyton Manning passing academy this summer.

That should be a good game. I will have to check my schedule. But meeting up at a tailgate would be good. I would love to make it up this year.

I would like to see Starmount pull out the win but I don't think it will be this year. They missed 2 good shots last year and had every chance to win both games. I think this years Starmount team will be good but not quite as good or as deep as last year. Just my opinion. I think Starmount will be fine even with a loss and expect them to make a deep run and most likely meet Murphy in the West Final.

I do think Starmount can go on a winning streak against Mt Airy starting next year if the Bears don't continue to have a bunch of transfers come in.

Mt Airy is loaded and it would be a HUGE disappointment if they aren't playing Shelby in the West Final later this year.

Good morning, football fans. I was counting the months, then weeks, until August 22nd, the start of Football season, but now I can say it is only 16 days until these boards will blow up ! ! ! How many are as excited as I am? It has seemed a long time since 12/21/2024, the last game of the 2024 season. Good luck, everyone, this year, except if you play the Bears!

I am hoping to make it to the Mount Airy vs Starmount game and take a few pictures, and I am feeling good this year with my foot better, but some days it hurts, but that is the diabetic neuropathy pain, which is much better with the meds I am on for now. I hope to get there early and not have a long walk. lol. I hope to see some I know there.

Starmount @ Mount Airy, 4 days to go. So, after all the scrimmages, what are your predictions for how this game will go? Who wins and by what score ?

I predict Mount Airy with some surprises and winning by 2 or 3 TDs
