Gonna be an interesting week in the mountains. Some big games are are on the schedule but that may change due to the weather.

Smoky Mountain @ West Henderson: Edge goes to WH at home. I didn't expect SM would let North hang around the way they did. Falcons by 10.

Tuscola @ North Henderson: Tuscola by 21+.

Pisgah @ Franklin: Bears are playing better and scoring a lot of points the last 2 weeks. Pisgah by 1.

East Henderson: BYE.

Just saw where Chris Womack posted that the WH/SM has been moved to Thursday as well.

West Henderson
Tuscola should be undefeated when the Bears come to town
Pisgah next three weeks will be critical for the Bears all tough games.

Some terrible calls that kept 2 touchdowns off the board for WH but that’s part of the game. Very sloppy second half.

Worst calls Ive seen all year…..
I didn’t like them either. The one seemed like a clear cut TD. But there was also a chance to punch it in and make 20-0 at half, you can’t throw an interception from inside the 5 trying to do too much. It wasn’t a clean game but Smoky is a good opponent and in the end west bowed up when it mattered.

Mountaineers look overwhelming right now, playing some good football.

JV's Tuscola 18 North Henderson 22
Mountaineers didn't play well and combined with some injuries and mistakes that they weren't able to overcome.

The Tuscola/West Henderson match up at the end of regular season may end up being
reminiscent of the 1985 season between those two.......

It will be interesting and fun to see how things turnout on Oct 28

For West, they were up 13-0 with an opportunity to go up 20-0 right before the half. With 50 seconds left, 1st down inside the SM 5yd line and the QB was trying to keep the play alive and threw an INT instead. 2 bad calls ensued to open the second half. The Falcons marched down the field with a great pass to the boundary of the end zone for what looked like a very clear touchdown with room to spare. The side judge called him out of bounds. Second came on a pass play for 80yds and a touchdown where a flag was thrown from behind the play on a lineman downfield well after the receiver was on his way to the end zone. It honestly felt like the game should have never been as close it was, as it felt like WH was in control of both sides of the ball but you could tell the kids were dejected after having 2 touchdowns taken off the board and getting none of the same calls on the other end, and slowly SM played their way back in the game. In no way did it feel like they were making calls to benefit SM, it was just poor officiating all around and definitely took the life out of one team and gave life to the other.

That crew is notorious for questionable job performance.

To be honest… You guys have a rep over there. Smc refs are on a different level .
I watched the broadcast & Franklin definitely got the worst of the officiating. Now if you want to talk about awful calls….let’s chat about Waynesville last week!

Fwiw none of those guys were from Haywood. Now if you wanted to see some really bad calls you should of been in North Henderson on Thursday. Holy moly!!

Yes they are, and we would be remiss to not acknowledge the surprising accomplishments of this years Tuscola team. I expected THS to be improved, but to be undefeated, and at this point among the very best teams in WNC is a very pleasant surprise.

Id like to know what the penalty at the end of that game that allowed Franklin to keep the ball was all about? Never did hear that.

I’m assuming some sort of personal foul. Coach Chappell got a full on field explanation from 2 officials & certainly didn’t protest.

Coach Chappell couldn’t protest much. It was illegal participation on us. We had too many players on the field. Coach was trying to get somebody off the field, but I guess they couldn’t see him or hear him. Nevertheless, the back judge had plenty of time to count our players on the field, and should have thrown the flag before the play. That would have been a 5 yd penalty, and a 4th down rekick of the punt. Instead, the back judge counted the number of players as they were walking off the field, and other players were coming on the field. That’s when he threw the flag. If too many players actually participate in the play, it turns into a 15 yd penalty, and that gave Franklin a 1st down.

This was a new one on me, so I called a referee friend, after the game, and explained the play to him. Long story short, the 15 yd penalty was technically correct, but he also said that the back judge definitely should have counted the players before the play and thrown the flag then - 4th down Panthers. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks the back judge knew we had too many on the field, and waited to throw the flag after the play was over, to give Franklin a 1st down, and the ability to run out the clock. We may not have scored if we had gotten the ball back, but we had momentum on our side. Yes, we had too many on the field, but that penalty was total BS to end the game.

That explanation doesnt sound right.....if you cant have 12 on the field between plays how do you ever make a substitution????

That back judge was a thorn in our side all night! Missed multiple calls & flagged our sideline 15yds for asking for an explanation at one point. That crew also missed a clear snap by Pisgah with 0 on the play clock that resulted in a TD. Look no argument from me, the crew struggled Thursday night. Franklin certainly got their fair share of it.

Anytime we play them at the pit things happen that never happen anywhere else. We have won very few times out there. Still it was a really good game to watch ,proud of the Bears .Thats two conference games we have lost by a total of 5 points. Just not our year.

You can have 12 on the field for subs, but one player needs to go back off before the play starts
