MPC early thoughts

Waddaya think guys? Honestly I'm not really sure what everyone has coming back yet.

ND is looking to get back to consistent winning after a season of multiple heartbreaking and frustrating losses. Need to finish and not just play in the first half. Two different teams last year in multiple games... defense needs a big upgrade after the last few years. Jmo. Rumor is the fans are sick of the drama on the sidelines. And off for that matter...

OG has a new coach but I don't expect any big changes philosophically. OG JVs have dominated the last few seasons and I expect them to continue the consistency. Need to make a deep playoff run to legitimize the program state-wise not just regionally.

Ledford has a great coaching staff and will be in the hunt again. They need a win against OG badly as they've never beaten them except sophomores and juniors so i don't count that lol. Always fundamentally sound but not athletic enough for a deep run in playoffs.

Central is a big question. Will they change style with the new coach? Central has never been a good program without the doublewing offense. Note I said program. Not one or two years.

Montgomery Central has been frustrated on the varsity level but their JVs last year showed help may be on the way. I expect they'll be a bit better this year but not conference contenders. It'd be cool if I'm wrong though.

Aboro... meh. Same song different verse. Athletes everywhere and no discipline or fundamental coaching. The 3A version of Lexington. Who should also be 3A by numbers BTW...

As for the northern part of Davidson County

OG will have a lot of talented young players playing but a 3 year starter at QB and a strong DL to anchor their sides of the ball.

ND will be young also but they play hard and outside of last season play and produce better than folks anticipate. Still talent in Welcome both players and coaches

Ledford loses the QB but return several all conference players including RB, WR, LG and LT on O. Plus they return 8 or 9 of their starters on D

North is always good to go on offense but the last two years are giving up 25 and then nearly 30 a game on D. Goes to show how much things have changed.

Montgomery Central has no excuse to be below average for this long.
All we heard on the front end of this new program was how quickly they'd get back to their winning ways. Big money to lure in a top notch coach... Great facilities... So far, nothing. Their JV was good last year, but not stellar.

I remember one of the old West Montgomery people who was promising a quick rise to the top. I honestly didn’t doubt him at the time. But right now they don’t really have any real competitive sports. Wrestling is pretty strong.

West Montgomery was a good but not elite 1A program. Thomasville used to destroy them every year, even WMs best teams. Jordan Matthews upset Tville in 2007 but Tville had beaten WM by four or five TDs that year off the top of my head. The WM fans always seemed to be a bit unrealistic to me about their status in the YVC and State 1A football, especially when they backed into State (losing to James Kenan) off Tvilles loss.

East Montgomery was an average program that always seemed to underachieve despite speed and talent being available every year.

When MC was announced these two were so excited they would be a 3A powerhouse. Instead they're more like the reverse Trinity/Wheatmore to me.

Pretty solid take there. I’d agree.

I think they idea to consolidate is a big win from an academic standpoint. That’s the real reason that any school system should make a move Iike this. The new school being right next to the community college is a great resource.

But athletically, the school is really far away from other 3A schools. A real nightmare for travel and non-conference matchups.

At practice. ND looks better than last year on first impression. Speed looks decent and size is not bad.

I'm sure the kids are itching to have a good season. May they stay healthy and may they unite as a single unit...

As an ER fan, I'm glad they added Central to the schedule. I have a feeling that game will be sneaky good. Central will prepare ER for those run-heavy teams we see in the state playoffs.

I'm very curious as to what can Brown do for Asheboro. If Goldston is back to wearing a Blue Comet uniform, that will help quite a bit.

With the exception of ER, I think Asheboro has a decent shot against any of the other four non-cons. Their best bet is against PG. PG is in total rebuild mode. That will be an emotional game, if nothing else.

Indeed we do. Good to see ya OC. I was going to be officiating this year but my work has me going about 10-12 hours a day nowadays. I'll still be catching the games I can and analyzing them as usual. Without black and orange sunglasses on in most cases lol... I try to be impartial. Sometimes I fail but that's human nature. I prefer to be objective and not make excuses.

That is a pretty strong non-conference. Knights should be battle tested for conference. Salisbury, NWG, Davie and those Boone boys will be good teams. Walkertown is very athletic but ND will beat them.

We all know that there is so much more to trying to build that program than coaching, have always had the kids but that high point right outside of town will always make the decisions. Lot of tape to cut through

Heard Ledford got a dynamic freshman athlete from Mooresville. Asked if he's jv or varsity. Friend said probably 1st 3 games jv then varsity. He's that good. We'll see because Glenn jv is loaded. If they stay together Glenn may be the top team in Forsyth county years to come
