Anyone using Rivals rankings to judge an MSU class has lost their mind. If he took a composite score (using Rivals, 247, and Scout) he'd have a much better indication of where we fall (and that would be about 7, 8, or 9).

Our class is better than Mizzou, UK, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Vandy.

And SC

If Mullen could attract football players like he has his little militia of excuse makers he`d be hell on wheels. When do you think Mullen is ever gonna recuit enough talent to whip the upper level SEC teams ? Short answer...never. He`s got to step and outcoach some people for us to win at a high level. Is it really asking too much for that to happen just once in a while. Do the frats and soros need to help him with that also ?

I really believe in the next few years Texas A&M will surpass LSU as second best in the SEC. Bigger recruiting state and Texas kids don't have to go out of state to play in the SEC anymore. It really is cruel what we have to go through.

True they have some advantages but the biggest thing is they just made a huge upgrade at HC with Kevin Sumlin.

I immediately stopped reading when I read the only data you used was from Rival (one of, if not THE worst recruiting services out there).

I think Texas HS football talent is generally way overrated. Yeah, they have unbelievable facilities and fan support for HS football in Texas, but the players aren't as good as the hype. One reason they don't play defense in the Big 12 is because they don't play defense in Texas HS football.

Jumping in the middle of the thread, so I may be taking things out of context ... but ... Mississippi has something under 3 million people. The US has well over 300M. So Mississippi has less than 1% of the people, and therefore most likely less than 1% of the "good" FB players. So we should be recruiting nationally to the extent we can, and certainly regionally, if we want to get a top-notch football team.

Somebody published a table a few months back that showed Mississippi had a huge participation in college football relative to the other states, but the same chart showed that not many went on to be scholarship players in college. I think that might tell one something about the quality of FB in the state.

Forget about that game right after Thanksgiving last fall?

First part might be your problem. My proof? You said 2011 Ole Miss had more talent than us. You really just said that.

You don't know the difference between "talent" and "achievement"... But that's surprising to no one, Goat.

2011 Ole Miss team's on-campus classes(approx averaged):
2008: 33
2009: 19
2010: 16
2011: 20

2011 MSU team's on-campus classes(approx averaged):
2008: 38
2009: 22
2010: 36
2011: 43

4 straight recruiting defeats by an average of 13 spots. Yes, they had alot of attrition -- hence why this is even ARGUABLE. Ranking-wise, it really isn't that close.

The first two years are nothing spectacular.

The ONLY way(in Dan Mullen's career in Starkville) that we are ever going to win at the level that you want is for the other teams to come BACK to us -- we can not RISE to them. I say in Mullen's career -- because i think we CAN become a Virginia Tech-level of "elite" -- but that's with a long, sustained process of building.

But to answer your question, YES, it is asking too much to want him to play spoiler to national title runs which 4 teams in our division are capable of putting together at ANY moment. When you look at comparative recruiting against the teams you suddenly expect us to start beating, it's eye-popping just how well he's done with the talent he's been given...

There are still coaching changes and improvements that need to be made -- absolutely no doubt. But we've got to continue to improve in recruiting the same way we have the past two years. We will never be "as good as we can be under Mullen" until the goose-egg of 2010 and 2011 classes are gone IMO.

Correct. Statistically. Are we forgetting who was throwing him the ball?

Am I the only one that remembers him being WIDE open deep (a total of at least 3 times that I can recall) in the 2011 Auburn and LSU games and Relf overthrowing him by 5 yards on surefire TD opportunities? He was the only player I have seen on our roster in 2010 or 2011(hell, really under Mullen period) that could get separation behind defenses(and elite defenses at that). He doesn't have to come back and put up huge numbers to give us an entirely new dimension and open things up for our slot/possession-type guys. When he got behind Mo Claiborne deep, I was sold.

What "history?" Kid had issues and worked them out. He tried to come back this year and coaches didn't let him. If they are letting him come back next year, it's obvious our coaches are pretty confident he's worked through those issues and will be ready to contribute...

He was an underclassman. Give the guy a break. He showed flashes of brilliance. I pulled an olemissbydamn and watching him some in HS, he's a baller. And I believe it was proven that he had some issues somewhere in his life.

I certainly expect him to contribute next year, more likely in the 2nd half, much like a typical JUCO player. I agree with engie here.

Fixed this for you. But in general, keep posting like this, and you will discontinue to be pwn3d weekly.

It's too much to ask Mullen to severely outcoach Saban, Miles, Muschamp, Richt, Sumlin and Spurrier to make up for the talent difference right now but that leaves 7 other coaches in the SEC that Mullen must out coach in every game for MSU to still be trending up. Mullen has to be better on the field as a coach in order for his recruiting to get better. He also can't be taking an ***-whipping media wise by UOM like what just happened yesterday.

Mullen came in talking **** towards Ole Miss, how he would never lose to them and started putting up billboards, t-shirts and hash tags saying "This Is Our State". This worked at first until Ole Miss realized they had to be even louder than him and they have done it. Mullen on the other hand has become subdued and quiet to the point that yesterday was like a media 17ing Mardi Gras in Oxford and like a quiet uneventful Wednesday in February in Starkville. Ole Miss has pushed the bar up and Mullen has asked for it to be lowered. Yesterday can not repeat itself ever again under Mullen. Time to step it up again big boy and earn the same paycheck that Freezus is getting.

Ole Miss got millions and millions of free advertising yesterday. MSU didn't get ****. I had to turn off ESPNU because it was Ole Miss TV. Last night we had to listen to Freezus for 5-10 minutes on CSS while Ole Miss is beating our *** all over the basketball court. This morning I turn on Mike and Mike on ESPN2 and guess whose being interviewed? Hugh 17ing Freeze. Time to get pissed Mullen and step your game up.

He was a virtually unanimous freshman All-SEC and freshman All-American in at least 1 or 2 publications at the TE position. He missed half of this season with a torn pec and had a hard time figuring into gameplans after that. Going forward(assuming health), he's one of the best pass-catching TEs in the country -- and that will be overly apparent next year when we run out a few guys that should be able to get open deep.

Which All American teams? You would think we would list that on his bio on hailstate.com. I looked for about eight seconds and found Austin Saferian Jenkins on all of them that even bothered to list a tight end. He's got some talent, but it's a stretch to call him All America, even as a freshman.
