I know you weren't here yet, but 6 years ago, our administration decided to bring Joe Moorhead back for a 3rd year, going against the wishes of most of our fanbase. But then, after a poor showing in a bowl game, they came to their senses and decided to make a change after all.

We humbly request that you do the same thing and announce a new direction in our program this week. Lebby now has a lower approval rating than Moorhead ever did. Discipline is just as bad as it ever was under Moorhead, and Lebby has half the number of wins that Moorhead had at this point (and 1/7 in the total of SEC wins). And nobody, even Lebby's few remaining supporters, has any optimism about the program going forward as long as Lebby is the coach.

You did the right thing this past summer by changing out Lemonis for O'Connor. You saw how it reinvigorated the fanbase and brought us out of our malaise. You became a hero that day, a legend. And now you have the chance to do it again.

Sincerely,

Almost every Mississippi State fan.

You are way more polite than I would be.

Thanks to Portnoy…

For the record - I did a similar thread back in January 2020, it was about 75-25 for firing Moorhead. Lebby is significantly less popular than a guy who had a 25% approval rating.

Jimmy Carter may have had a higher approval rating than Lebby does now****

The first thing Lebby said to the team after the game:

“there’s not much to say. I feel bad.”

Lebby told the offense at halftime:

the defense is the only thing keeping us in the game.

I think they're going to have to consider going in a new direction over the next few days. I'm not saying they 100% will, but the morale of the fanbase is at an all-time low, and it's not just sad, it's angry.
Because they see that Lebby is not coaching. It’s very apparent. The camera crews showed it tonight. He just over there yelling let’s f’ing go and not doing anything meaningful or helpful. In fact, every single choice he makes does more harm than good.

That’s not happening unfortunately. You would have to fire him tonight or tomorrow at the latest and scramble big time. The portal is only open for 2 weeks.

Why would a bunch of quality players come play for this shitastic staff? These players can get paid everywhere else in the Power 4.

This game didnt move the needle for me at all. Lebby doesn't know what he's doing. He isnt even a good OC. But we kept him, so we are going to waste this alleged gigantic NIL war chest on players he cant coach.
Everytime I saw him on the sideline tonight, he looked scared and unsure. I’m not sure what to think going forward, but I imagine it’s hard to follow a leader who exhibits those traits…..

That’s exactly why it WILL happen.

Because we’re MSU….where we try every bad idea at least twice, and wait at least 3 months too late for any good ideas.

It’s Jan. 3 on the tail end of the wildest CFB coaching turnover I can remember. Unless there is a commitment in place from a Mullen or someone equal or better he gets another year, and the bulk of the portal player budget has to go toward offensive line and the defensive front 7 and see what he can do with it. Bringing in a glut of WRs needs to be overridden by whoever writes the checks if it comes to that.

If results aren’t significantly better 2/3 of the way through the season, cut him loose and get a head start on finding a new coach.

Hiring head coaches is very difficult and everyone understands that hires do not work out more often than they do, so it's OKAY to go another direction even after 2 seasons. He's a greay guy but not ready to be a HC. Last night was supposed to be a glimpse into next season, and we looked really bad, particularly on offense that is supposed to be his specialty. There was no gameplan to take the pressure off a true freshman QB and an offensive line that has struggled (to put it kindly) all season. We all know what's going to happen next year, so now is the time to do it. He's won ONE SEC game in 2 seasons, and had SIGNIFICANT help from the refs to do so. Make the change.

I'm not saying Lebby is great or that we need to keep him. But, trying to compare him apples to apples with a coach that started with the best defense in college football is incorrect also.

Moorhead started with a great team and sank them into blah. Lebby started with a dumpster fire and has worked his way up to blah. The question is, can Lebby continue to grow above blah? It appears many don't believe so.

The difference is the portal. Moorhead didn't have it and could actually recruit. Lebby has it and can't recruit for shite. OM returns 5 players off their 2 deep roster at the end of last year, reloaded in the portal with good evaluations and good recruiting and is a win away from playing for it all. The difference is ability to organize, coach, and recruit

80% of the vote by a board that has overwhelmingly been consistently adamant about giving a coach enough time.
It’s time to make a change. It has become apparent that Jeff Lebby is not the guy we need leading the ship going forward.

So if we keep him we win 3-4 games next year and have no hope for the future. If we fire him we win 3-4 games next year and MAYBE have hope for the future .

Moving on from Moorhead was in a different era before NIL and the portal. Lebby is proving to be an awful hire. And unless he just gets very lucky, he will be fired around November 1st next year. But you just can’t fire him now unless you just want to concede 2026 to an interim coach, limited NIL investment, and 3-9 as to the BEST case scenario. Our next permanent coach will NOT accept a job in January and BEGIN the process of assembling his staff AFTER the portal opened. It would be a suicide mission. Firing Lebby is justified. But you had to do it by December 1st. The ship has sailed for 2026.
