MS controlled both lines of scrimmage. I was impressed by the performances of Nick Leongas & Fotis Kokosioulis. Montini scored off an early turnover and an 80 ? yd run . Other than that it was all MS.
What a name!
We took a beating from a well prepared, and extremely balanced MS football team. I hope the team can re-group and get 5 wins this season. Congratulations to Maine South. You are going to be a force to be dealt with.
need help with those bags of sand?Slow down everyone! MS played great yesterday and it was an awesome win. But winning state and beating Loyola are two very very very tough tasks. LA will have a huge size advantage at all but one position and have the speed to equal them too. I'm not saying the Hawks can't beat LA but they are #1 for a reason.
Maine South played an excellent game yesterday and deserved the win!
Great defensive night for the Hawks! Total team effort!
No sandbagging here. I would love for us to perform like we did yesterday on Saturday.need help with those bags of sand?![]()
Wassup,
What happened to the Smith kid who got hurt on the long run?
I was sttting at the top of the stands on the 40 yd line and it looked like he tried to fake out the MS defender and got hurt. I hope he is ok.
Will Smith the tailback was Montini's entire offense. Montini has other running backs but for whatever reason they didn't use them. .
I've been saying for months, QB is not ready.
A lot of the fans felt the same way with putting #26 in but for whatever reason they didn't do it. He is a big strong kid who can run with power. From what I understand he is one of the fastest kids on the team but they have him playing middle linebacker. Last year against Main South Sophs he had three sacks of the quarterback in the first half and one in the second as an outside linebacker. That was why I commented on kids playing out of position.I think I know what your talking about. Smith left the game after that long run and they put in the SO running back while in the red zone. I think this was the perfect situation to put in #26 our starting SO running back from last year who is productive in the red zone (Example - that game winning drive at the end of the game last year when the soph's beat St Rita on the final drive of the game). Instead they picked the SO running back and tried to score exclusively with the passing game. I think the outcome would have been much different on that drive if they did.

Totally agree with you on two running backs in the backfield. #6 was on an island back there and MS was keying on him every play. If they could have had another bigger running back in there as a blocker for him on the sweeps I believe he could have many a lot more yards. Once he got outside with his speed it would have been hard to catch him.Maine South played an excellent game yesterday and deserved the win!
Montini's offensive and defensive lines were not getting the job done. Montini lost this game in the trenches. On the D-Line Montini looks to be a bit light this year. It looks like two of the D-lineman really should be linebackers instead of lineman. Maine South opened huge holes and it seemed like they were getting 10 yards per carry. They looked really fast.
I don't really care for having one of the Bronco's linebackers playing both ways. We had enough problems on the offensive side of the ball and seems like he should just be playing on offense.
On offense the passing game was just poor. Nobody was stepping up and making plays. The O-line only opened up minimal holes for the running game and #6 took advantage of a few of them. I like #6 a lot at the running back position but not much at WR. Obviously Montini needs to find ways to get the ball in his hands during the game with Walker as a starter but I think #6 is so much more effective at the running back position rather than WR. I would rather see #5 and #6 both lining up together in the backfield than seeing #6 lining up in the spread as a WR. Just my thoughts.
With our schedule the tackling in the secondary needs to get better if the Broncos want to make the playoffs (Maybe watch Jake Kapp highlights on the perfect technique of tackling).
Montini's Walker did not play and West played on defense only with a cast. Therefore he could not be used at wide receiver. But this is no excuse because Maine South wins this game easy even if the Bronco's were at full strength.
Hopefully things get better for next week.

I couldn't agree with you more! Smith and Walker should both be in the backfield at times and occasionally mix in #26 as lead blocker. He can hit the hole fast and take out one of the linebackers on the run side for the ball carrier. Last year #26 as a soph played the slot when another back was in and also as a lead blocker for the other running back.. He is an excellent blocker and can catch the ball out of the slot. Both Smith and Walker are on the small side and if the hole isn't there they have to jump to the outside. During the MS game I seen that had Spivak (right tackle) a yard or two off the line a couple of time and they used him as a blocker on running plays. It was obvious by the way Spivak lined up it was going to be a running play. The entire offensive line was out of sync and Smith earned every yard he got.I do like your idea about putting in a blocking back.
With Walker and Smith at RB there just won't be much playing time for #26 at running back this year. But #26 does run the ball with power and to me is a typical Chicago Catholic League type of player. I hope they keep their options open by at least using him in area's when needed when it's tough to move the football like in the red zone.
Walker and Smith are at the best when the ball is handed off to them out of the backfield. They are great, great players. But I really don't think they are effective lining up at WR so I would not put them in that position. To win you have to get them both as much touches as possible. Therefore I would either rotate them in the backfield or play with two backs in the backfield at times.
I do think to maximize Montini's offense you have to get #26 in on the offensive side of the ball. So I would play him at wide receiver even if he has to play the slot position. West really can't play offense right now on the offensive side of the ball due to the cast. I would play Shilgalis, Morrissey, #26 as the starting receivers mixing in Pirog and Quaglia at times at WR. But at times I would play both Walker and Smith in the backfield with two receivers like Shilgalis and Morrissey or #26. I have not seen Morrissey much but would move him to offense permanently but not on defense. We are deep at linebacker but the offense needs help.
We need to be bigger on the defensive line. I've seen big guys just standing on the sidelines. Put them in on the D-line. Move #57 and #34 to linebacker instead of the defensive line where they belong. They are both great linebackers and too light to be effective on the line. Your linebackers would be Foster, #34 and #57. I would also rotate in #26 but primarily use him on offense at WR.
These are just my thoughts from knowing the program as limited as I do. I don't know everything but the Montini fans and Maine South fans I was talking to during the game agreed with me on the changes.
Also our secondary must learn to tackle.

Like a lot of others, shocked by this one. not so much on the result, but the score. Been a while since bronco got hit that hard.
Bronco needs to tighten up fast...JCA too....
Norgle is a good quarterback and usually accurate with his passes. He looked off and his passes were either thrown short or too long. Not how I am used to seeing him play so I think he will come around too. Montini has great coaches so I am sure after looking at the films they will make their adjustments. By the way #26 is the tackler who caused the MS quarterback to fumble on our scoring play in the first quarter.Gene K,
It seems you and I are seeing things the same way. Our thinking is virtually the same. I do think Norgle will put it back together soon. I've seen him produce before and he will do it again. The Bronco's will get back on track one way or another.

Maybe you can explain the pass interference call on the play MS receiver appeared to fall down and the MCHS player trip over him. 23 on freshman squad for MS was quite talentedAll the talk about the low numbers on the Freshman team is a little misleading as well. Ok, 30+ kids, but there's still talent there since I officiated their freshman game Saturday morning.
