I say pumped up and just counting minutes until kickoff. Pound the rock , wear them down and D does what it has been doing .

34-13 W

I’ll take the 38-3 beat down we gave them a few years ago.

I don’t think Schiano lets complacency set in.The team will work hard to secure this bowl bid. Try to remember the year we clinched our first bowl game since the Garden State Bowl. We are a good team. Can we become a very good team in 2023?

Until they prove they can I think they don’t steamroll any league foe. Especially on the road. We didn’t play well enough this week to believe that. MSU started the game with an 8 minute drive down our throats in what was the start of the most important game in years

Okay. Great. So let THIS be game where they "prove they can." That was exactly my point lol! And remember, as we were reminded all week long, MSU had a "bye" prior to playing us. IU does not. I'm willing to bet MSU doesn't go right downfield like they did on us to start the half - twice - without that "bye" week.

*** obviously we'll never know, lol!

I got yelled at for not being a positive poster when I said that this may be a hard fought game. I think RU should win. But Indiana and Coach Allen are fighting for their lives, or at least respect, and it is their homecoming. On the other side (Rutgers), that was a very emotionally charged win on RU's homecoming. Greg needs to hit the reset button and have his players in the right mindset. I trust that Greg will do that, and hopefully the players can stay there. Don't look past a purportedly "lesser" opponent like MSU may have been doing yesterday.

Think "Win and clinch" might be motivating?

Nah I didn’t yell. I just thought it was kind of funny that you predicted huge MOV for NW, VTech, etc. but seem a lot less confident about this one.

This game has the look and feel of a trap game. Road favorite coming off a big win playing with so much on the line. We can certainly lose it (see Minny basketball game that cost us tourney bid) but on paper we’re the better team and this is a game we should find a way to win.

All right, you said it - trap game.
Remember 2006 after Louisville (certainly not even close in the magnitude of the win), team was on an emotional high, and lost 30-11 to a so-so Cincinnati (coached by Mark Dantonio with Pat Narduzzi as DC). Teel threw 4 INTs, and reserve QB Nick Davila (who?) led the Bearcats to victory. Ray Rice held to 54 yards rushing. There are too many things different about Indiana this year and Cincinnati that year for something like this to happen. But I still expect a hard fought game.

My predictions are often over the top, rutgersal style, with the hopes of winning the weekly prize.

IMO, we go as far as Gavins accuracy and decision making goes. When he's on, it looks easy, but he has sailed many a pass, so as he goes, we go. Our D will do great, in that I'm sure, and we will run well.

I don't see a blow out. Indiana has played some very good teams. They must win this game or their season is over (same position MSU was in with us last week).

I want to see us come out like MSU came out. They kept us off balance and gave their QB easy throws. I don't want to see us run up the gut for 3 quarters and only have gavin follow the rb on his runs.

Control field position with solid special teams, limit penalties, and no turnovers - I can’t see IU beating us if we do these three things.

RPO all day. Hand to Kyle and stay on schedule. Use Wimsatt’s legs on key 3rd & 4th downs and in the red zone. Take shots off the playaction - maybe not bombs but the 12+ yard passes should be there if IU is forced to stack the box to stop the run and play man coverage.

D doesn’t necessarily need to blitz a lot but does need to do some things to confuse whoever is the IU QB.

In playing on and coaching football teams, after the elation of a miracle comeback, I have received and given the message of “That was awesome. Now let’s work to not let us be in a comback situation this week”

Team spirits are lifted. Players are confident and focused. Practice will be hard this week.

And it should be … Indiana is still a good team. As Rutgers knows well this conference is a weekly challenge. If you lose that focus something bad is likely to happen. The game is a B1G chance for Rutgers to move the program forward.

In this conference there are no TRAP games. Teams are all a challenge. Are you saying we are looking forward to no game next week / a bye week. Now if we were playing Kent State… then it would be a trap type scenario.

Trap games aren’t always of the New Hampshire / Kent State variety. In 2006, the Cincy game was a “trap” game for us. We won the hard one and then we had a seemingly easier path to a conference title. Until that easier game wasn’t so easy and we blew it. The Indiana game stands out now as by far the easiest remaining paper match up on the schedule from a talent perspective.

It’s not a trap game… funny how posters here have always called these trap games after a Rutgers win. Against Cincinnati 2006 it was a game against an opponent who spent the night tackling our receivers when they were about to catch the ball. It was a smart ploy and it worked . People called it a trap game … this isn’t a trap game… it’s a game of two teams probably equally good or suspect in certain areas of their play.

Schiano mentioned the NH game from 04 earlier this year at one of his press conferences. I would like to think that the Cincy game in 06 and the NH game from 04 were learning experiences/building blocks for Schiano 2.0. Hopefully he's figured out how to keep the staff and players focused.

They get a few days off but if we do win Saturday you just have to believe the OSU game will take on “ a life of its own”.

If the referees can chill on the pass interference calls and only call them when they are egregious, then I like our chances. If Indiana is consistently awarded 15 yards and a first down on every 3rd and long incompletion, we're in serious trouble.

Just curious - outside of the home field advantage, what aspect(s) of the game do you think Indiana has the edge over us?

As Schiano says, every game takes on a life of its own, but on paper this looks like a pretty favorable match up for us (which is why I tagged it “trap game”) as long as we protect the ball and don’t make stupid mistakes (always on concern on the road).

This game won't be easy. Indiana's homecoming and an obvious let down possible for us. I think we win but it will be by under 10 points.

We lost by 19 points to a mediocre Cincy squad the game after the Pandemonium in Piscataway victory in 2006, so no guarantees going into Indiana that we don't suffer the same fate.

I always wonder why we don’t do the same. Drawing PI is part of the game, just like rub routes, yet we don't ever do that basic stuff.

Would much rather see that we are trying to move the chains rather than see 1 yard passes to Langan on third and long.

As I posted earlier their run game hasn’t been great. Each game can be different. The passing game has 2 good receivers but as far as their passing attack it is not that much greater than ours. I actually believe our wr group is getting better and better. QB is another guessing game for them. Gavin Wimsatt has an opportunity to really solidify his status as our teams leader. It happens elsewhere … why not at Rutgers. Indiana is good D and questionable offense…,Listen I’m a Homer type guy. I admit I’ve let that sometimes cloud my viewpoint of Rutgers football. It is different this year….Schiano is different in many ways… is he the greatest coach in college football? Maybe not but it seems others are realizing what a tough job this was to resurrect a second time…As long as he guides these players along life’s journey , we win more than we lose , graduates these men then I’m good. Indiana will be fired up but I suspect Rutgers Football will be too … looking for a win .

Stats from bigten.org.

Average ppg: RU 27.7, Indiana 18.5 (worst in league) - yes Wagner skews this. We have 142 pts in the other six games (23.7 ppg)

Average ppg allowed: RU 16, Indiana 29

Offense YPG: RU 328.9, IU 317.2
Defense YPG allowed: RU 276.4, IU 374.7. (YIKES that is bad!)

Rush YPG: RU 164.9 ypg, IU 107.2 (2nd worst in conference)
Rush defense: RU 115.9 ypg allowed, IU 157.5 ypg allowed. I like that matchup.

QB efficiency (better measure than YPG IMO): Indiana 118.3, RU 117.7. Tiny edge to IU.
QB efficiency against: RU 107.9, IU 139.1

FG kicking: RU 7-10, IU 6-6 - they may have an edge here
Net punting: RU averages 40.3 yards, IU averages 38.8 yards. They have four touchbacks, we have one.

Sacks allowed: RU 6, IU 12
Sacks for: RU 17, IU 12

Interceptions: RU 5, IU 6 - we let three gimmes get away against MSU.
Penalty yards per game: RU 39.4, IU 47

Opponent penalty yards per game: RU 38 (WORST in the league), IU 48.2

We are ahead of them on virtually every category. We are the better team. Execute, CHOP your job, and get that W.
