seems like the dude ought to be in his 70s by now. Would we REALLY have wanted to bring in a coach that old?

I think Rick Ray will win about 14 games total in the next two years and be run out of town. Although as long as this screwed up fanbase gave Stansbury, I wouldn't be surprised to be sitting here 10 years from now with 0 sweet sixteens and Baby Rick still the head coach.

I'll bet ya a crisp one dollar bill that SMU makes the tournament. Then I guess we can decide which coach we'd rather have, some old dude with NBA and NCAA championships or a young unknown guy who has never won jack ****.

1) The NFL and NCAA basketball are greatcomparisons. Good job bruh. <div>2) Yes I'm saying Coach Larry Brown will take the team to the tourney next year. If Coach Larry Brown had been the coach of the 2011 MSU team, they would have gone to the tourney too.</div><div>3) Rick Ray is the worst hire in the history of MSU athletics.</div><div>4) None of this is sarcastic, in case you were curious.</div><div>

he will do fine as a coach. Heck, he's got more credentials to be a HC than Richard Williams or Rick Stansbury had at the time they got our job.

Sure he was a great coach. Now he's just an old man looking for something to do. Let an NBA front office job open and see what happens to SMU. I want, and we got a young hungry energy filled basketball coach. I don't want Geritol in his desk drawer. Lord, can any of you 17er's be happy about anything? Or do you just like to ***** about something? I think it's the latter. If ya ain't bitchin', ya ain't happy!

With all the sentiments of the op, think about this. At the beginning of the search Stricklin says, ok guys y'all can have Larry Brown or Rick Ray what say you 6pack? I understand getting behind our current coach but some of y'all are unbelievable. Larry Brown all mutha 17ing day long. Reekris

the naysayers will have more ammo. to throw out there. I like what I've seen and heard so far. He just needs to get some players signed on his own to help out next season. He's supposedly been out busting his *** recruiting. We need to see some results from his hard work. He went to Kansas I'm guessing to try and land that point guard that just signed with Houston. That is more ammo. But this Larry Brown crap is just stupid! Larry Brown won't lift a damn finger at SMU. He is gonna get a big payday and his assistants and W.W.W. will get him the players. Good for them. That isn't the way Stricklin wanted our program run. If he had, he would've hired Payne. <div>
</div><div>Oh, and your Rick Flair thing "is the BEST THING GOING TODAY" and everyday on sixpack! WHOO!</div>

We're talking about a 72-year old man who hasn't recruited a player in 25 years.

But I don't think Rick Ray will make it past 3 either. If your only getting a few years out of a coach I'd rather have the big name seemingly giving us a higher profile for the next hire.

It took SMU forever to find a coach, and they end up with a 72-year-old who has yet to stay for more than two years at any of his last few jobs. Hell, they are having to bring in Tim Jankovich from Illinois State to be the coach-in-waiting. (good hire) Supposedly they are going to bring in some more quality assistants, but Brown is a terrible, terrible hire. He hasn't won **** in years.

The only reason Brown even took the job is because he couldn't get the GM job at Portland, which he clearly wanted. As others have said, SMU hired some old dude who simply wants to coach as a hobby.

As far as SMU taking the tournament next year, I will quit posting on here if they make the tournament. I mean that. You want to bet on it, Brutius? Loser is off the board. They sucked last year, and from what I have gathered, they lost a lot of the ****** players who led them to a ****** record.

You're being 17ing retarded.

seems to me that some hillbilly posted there were 3 names in the coaching search...and he guaranteed one of the three would be the next head coach at MSU or he'd "quit posting".

i don't know as if i have ever seen a message board boast like that ever come true.

Not only are they getting Larry Brown, who is a G. SMU is also hiring Jerrance Howard who is a bomb *** recruiter from Illinois, and Rod Strickland from Kentucky. I think they are going to be just fine.

Since you asked, here is some thoughts:<div>
<div>*He couldn't get Hood to stay.</div><div>*He couldn't get Pollard to come.</div><div>*He couldn't get Josh Gray to come.</div><div>*He hasn't signed a player, even promising immediate playing time. (OM has oversigned and USM signed a JC without a head coach.)</div><div>*He met with one recruit that has grade troubles and didn't even discuss a plan to get him in school. (Recruit's mom called one of our ex-coaches for help.)</div><div>*Ran into a very big booster yesterday that has 8 floor level seats. He is going to only buy 2 next year to send a message to Scott S.</div><div>*Ran into another big booster today that is doing the same.</div><div>*When we only win a few games (look at the players that remain and freshmen will have a transition to the SEC), the Hump will be empty.</div><div>
</div><div>Hope this helps.</div><div>

What the hell dude, your fascination with this loser coach we hired is borderline obsessive. I'll wait to see what he does, don't worry. And in 2 years when we've won about 3 SEC games people will be yearning for the good old days of Rick Stansbury and his 21 win NIT teams.

I really don't give a **** if I lose some loser leaves board bet.<div>
</div><div>Little Ricky Ray is the worst hire ever in MSU's glorified history. While SMU may or may not make the tournament (my bet would be that they do), one thing is for sure: MSU won't be. Why? Because Scott Stricklin, genius that he is, hired a coach that couldn't stop the best players and best recruits from going somewhere else.</div>

the guy hasn't even coached a game and you crown him the worst hire in MSU history? If Stans had done his job and not sold his soul to Sidney, we would have been a somewhat attractive job. But considering Stans left a landfill (we were WAY past a dumpster) fire, we were damn lucky to get Coach Ray.

And before you or another dubmass says that we should have just kept Stans, our program would have become progressivly less attractive to any decent coach each year he remained here.

I think it is pretty telling that Coach Ray has said that he reached out to Stans, but hasn't talked to him yet. We should kick Stans the hell out of Starkville, IMO.
