Got an email this morning say it had passed the House in Alabama and goes to the Senate today.

Would be cool with me.

I think if I was a MSU fan marooned in Bama I would have to get the MSU one personalized w/ 1980 or 6-3 or something like that.

Tried to work with the Alumni Association folks to get this done in Virginia but just not enough interest. It only takes 350 prepaid applications.

Our alums have been trying to get them for decades. I e-mailed Sen. Butler last night to ask for his support, and dropped the names of some of our mutual friends who are MSU grads and have prominent recognition in the Huntsville area.

I'm all about making North and Central Alabama more 'MSU country' in any way, shape or form we can.

Our former national alum president, who lives in HSV, told me via e-mail last night that there was an agreement to leave the money in Alabama. We just want the plates.

All money associated with out-of-state university affinity plates (all of the extra $51 fee charged to get one) authorized by the State of Mississippi stays in Mississippi by law. It is the same in other states. The fees stay in the issuing state. So MSU would not realize any fee revenue from the sale of state plates in Alabama. However, the university would certainly appreciate all of the intangible benefits associated with those plates, such as eyeballs of prospective students, goodwill among fellow alums, points of pride, and pissing off opposing team fans.

The extra money goes to their state education board. Will be interesting to see if it passes. Pretty sure we would be the first college to have a tag not located in Bama.

I got an email from the Huntsville-Decatur chapter president yesterday with that information. She said it passed the State House 95-0 and will go to the Senate now. But it's done that before and has always been turned down by the senate. That's why they're asking for emails, letter, phone calls, whatever to your senator.

Alabama has always been anal about out of state university plates; not just MSU, but all of them. We have plenty of people saying they want one (only takes 1000, I think) but regardless of the number they are "protecting" Alabama and Auburn and the other minor schools.

I really don't think it will pass, but at least the effort is being made.

So we need more MSU folks as AL senators? My question is, why does it roll through the House and get stopped in the Senate? Probably because Howard Sanderford is a good Bulldawg.
