Stricklin hit on several things that have started since Mullen took over; no expansion plans even on the drawing board, fan base was stagnant, etc.. .. Pointed out the obvious that Bulldog fans are happy right now and bear fans are not.....usual stuff. But did talk about the work toward showing the fanbase how much they are appreciated and providing great game experiences at all games from volleyball to football.
Mullen talked about getting to kids from age 10 and up and getting them hooked on State. Said a UM grad who was a high school coach told him that State shirts, flags, tags, were everywhere and that he (Mullen) and State were outpacing everybody else in marketing their school. The most interesting comments were to tell fans not to pat the football players on the back between now and the fall but to ask them if they were serious about establishing a winning program and attitude. He said all of them needed a kick in the pants and not a lot more praise. He said that to do that would wipe out the gains of the last two years. He said that the QB spot was open and that going into the fall the job would go to the guy that wanted it the most and who earned it.
Jimmy Abram spoke for a few minutes and said they expected around 800 new students this fall to bring enrollment to 20,500. Said the goal of 22,500 by 2015 would most likely be passed much sooner and that plans were being made for a classroom only building near the center of campus because once enrollment reached 21,500 we would have no classroom space left.
All in all good news for the bookfarmers at The People's University.......
