"his playcalling at the end of the game was tantamont to "quitting"" also went on to say that this was the perception of the national media members he had spoken with as well....said he still thought Mullen was a good coach but with all the hype and the national stage last night...he laid a coaching egg......his ship hit a glacier....question is does it sink?</p>

We aren't going to beat either of them playing vanilla on offense, but that is what we always do. He has no confidence in our ability to beat them, and the offense practically retreats into its shell every time we play either one of them. We are no where near as talented as Bama or LSU, but Mullen quit last night, and that **** is unacceptable.

If we are going to lose to LSU, I would rather do it while running every trick play, fake punt/field goal, Annexation of Puerto Rico and etc. Hell, we don't have anything to lose. Why allow them to slowly suffocate us? We should have been trying to land haymakers unto the bitter end, but the coaches quit on the players.

we had the ball at the LSU 9 yard line and ran Relf 3 straight times for no net gain. Especially on 3rd and 9 with man coverage, if you are playing to win and not just keep it close, you have to take a shot there. We just ran a QB draw into a mass of humanity. The play calling was very similar to UF in the swamp last year. The difference LSU's kicker could make FG's and LSU has more playermakers on offense than UF did last year. And of course, our D isn't as good.

Interesting enough, we get the ball laterinside the redzone. We have first down and 5. It seems like the perfect time to plow ahead, but wechoose to pass. A littlepuzzling to me.

And the decision to yank your starter was Spurrier-esque, but Idon't care to debate that.

not much else to do

If it was simple to whip there ***, everyone would be doing it.

I thought we would get beat worse than we did, but there is no excuse for us not to try everything imaginable against a team that is that physically superior to us. What is there to lose?

post. People, we are not "there" yet and we are moving in the right direction. I don't give a flying 17 what Finebaum thinks or says. I'm sure Mullen has reasons for whatever he does. He is not a stupid man or coach. Yet some posters think they have all the answers and have never coached anything or anybody. Maybe we should just start bashing him and make sure the negativism continues with MSU football and run him off so maybe we can hire another Croom, or Felker or that ilk.

LSU is throwing the kitchen sink at our QB's. and we can't run the ball!
When you have a count of about 2 before you must throw it, you are going to have problems.
Our depleted O line got thrashed...

Your point don't matter!

Hell even LSU tried a damn half *** onside kick against us and it wasn't like they were the underdog. I mean you would think by the 3rd quarter Mullen figured out that Relf up the middle just isn't going to work. **** I mean open up the offense, throw a trick play in there, fake a punt or field goal..I mean something to try and offset the obvious talent gap.

We moved the ball. But when most coaches in this league go against bama and lsu they are going to play conservative and try to make it till the 4th qtr without that game changing TO. I just think our overall offense game plan was bad. I dont know..it just looked weird to me. Where's the screen, option pass, quick slant? And we ran the RB in the flats for good gains a couple times...never saw it again.

at 2.6 mil a year, I cannot accept throwing in the towel in a 2 score game with time outs left on the table. Nobody does that at any level. Chances of being successful are extremely slim, but nevertheless, ALL coaches pull out all stops when confronted with such a situation at the end of the game. In a 3 or 4 score game, probably not. But if you have an opportunity to put the ball in the end zone and still have time to execute a kick-off, you make every effort available to you to try to accomplish that. Anything less is paramount to walking off your job before the agreed upon time and flipping off the boss while you are leaving. Stricklin should expect an explanation for that scenario soon.

you know that having coaching experience is not a prerequisite for having an opinion. Do you want a thousand C34's on here?

too scared of the negative to even TRY for the homerun. Don't be all brave in your expectations for what your salary should be then be all afraid to try to score. Idk why I quoted your post though not really responding to you so just ignore the quote please.

I also was befuddled by the 1st and 5 play call, and also at the end of the 1st half, we had the ball around our 40, less than a minute, why not take a shot way down field? Instead we run it and punt.

At some point, you gotta act like you want to win instead of just stay close.

He should be excoriated. If any other coach said what he said about the situation, everyone here would blast him.

You people are so freakin' stupid it's INSANE! Scream from the mountains "FIRE DAN MULLEN!" "RELF SUCKS!" You people DO realize the that was the best defense in the nation RIGHT? Look I coach on 2 different levels, one thing I know that apparently you people FAIL to realize is this: Your job as a coach is much like being a parent, you job is to prepare them (players) the ABSOLUTE best you can for what's ahead with the time you have. What I saw against LSU was on defense FINALLY LB's were maintaining gap integrity and on O I saw Mullen setting us up for a 4th qtr push. It's easy to sit at your mom's house on a keyboard and say "he should of done this and that!". NOBODY has speed on defense like LSU......NOBODY! Mullen tried MANY different looks the zone read option wasn't gonna work, LSU was WAY too fast and way too physical. The only thing that was there was TE's & back check downs. Now, he must've seen something else he liked better because he got away from it. I will agree that was a head scratcher, but this is the same guy who won 9 games last year and EVERYBODY wanted him back! Mullen knows what the 17 he's doing, calm your asses down and either throw your maroon hats away and jump on a bandwagon or shut up! I mean did you REALLY think we were gonna be undefeated right now? Or 3-1? Against LSU? Really? Last year we lost to Auburn by 3 (who was the best team in the country) this year it took cheating refs and we only lost by inches. Last year LSU whooped our ***, this year we were a few plays away from beating them. People this isn't Jackie's SEC west anymore, EVERYBODY GETS BETTER EVERY YEAR HERE (except maybe the blackbears). But we ACTUALLY (as an entire unit) looked better against LSU than we did against Auburn or Memphis. But when I watch a game, I watch the line of scrimmage, I don't watch the ball. I watch LB's pursuit angles, OL's hands and feet, DL's drive & heart. We are gonna be fine, calm down!

I hope, somehow, it wasn't the case. But in the end I think Mullen is human, and frustration got the best of him. I could be very very wrong, but that was my first opinion.
