Mullen has Not Beaten a Top 20 Team....EVER..

He is 2-17 vs the Top 25. (#22 UF and #25 Bears are the only wins)

Dan can't seem to win a Big Game. He does win most of the games we are favored in..
These next two games will really show how good of a coach he is.
Is he all talk or can the man coach our players up? Time will tell..

I will not be surprised if we lose out and finish 7-5, after starting 7-0.
What a disappointing season that will be..

Sooooo, he struggles to beat top 20 teams. And our next 2 games will show what kind of coach he is- even though they arent against top 20 teams???

I'm sorry that every top 20 team we play is ranked #1 or ranked top 5 in some ridiculous catagory. I hate to rehash the depth card but... Depth. We're not going to bench any of the 100 mediocre seniors we have for freshmen. Once these guys have earned their keep we'll roll.

Since you bring up UT let me say this. Do u know why they fired Dooley? Because of his record Vs. in conference opponents AND he is terrible Vs. top 25 right? UT actually HAS a rich tradition of football.....we don't! UT has a huge assets budget guess what......we DON'T! In the state of Tennessee unless your a brain surgeon you are not going to turn down a scholly from UT to go to Vandy. They don't have that problem....we do. Not only with tsun but now usm is gonna buy every damn kid they can to help them win. So chill with that dumb downed ****. Everybody he beats some **** kicker gets on here and tries to down play the victory.

If we don't win the next two games, it will be telling that he is not that great of a coach.
I called both the Auburn and Tenn games must win games this year, and we found a way to win both of those games.
These next two games are must win games for our Bulldogs...

Good coaches win games they aren't supposed to win.
They get their teams ready to play and pull out an upset on Saturdays..

Why hasn't Dan gotten a win vs a Top 20 team? Are we that bad of a football team?

All of the SEC coaches that Mullen has beat this year will be fired in all likelihood. We can now say that Auburn, Kentucky, and Tennessee have been "Mullened".

Totally agree fish! Even Croom beat some better teams with his ****** program. Tired of all of the love for Mullen, when he keeps choking against better teams. I haven't heard this mentioned, but am I the only one who saw Mullen trying to find a play for Russell as the clock is ticking down? And Russell is screaming at Mullen to "Come on!!". Why has this not been discussed. He looked totally lost at that moment.

Also, should TSUN pull the upset against LSU, what will all of you say then? Not that I'm expecting that to happen, but should it, then where does Mullen stand in your graces at that point?

Croom beat 1 top 25 team in his tenure- one. Auburn- when we scored 2 defensive TD's to win the game. Croom also got to face a down Alabama program, an Arkansas program being killed by Nutt, and an Orgeron led Mississippi program.

Just off the top of my head, LSU 09 and Arkansas '10. LSU, we get all the way to the goal line. The receiver is wide open and LSU makes a helluva play. Next play the walk on QB Mullen inherited can break through the pile for the win. Coach Mullen put us in position to win that game. Players just didn't make the plays. Then Arkansas.... Yeah, that was crappy play calling at the end and in OT. Oh yeah, Auburn....Cams year, Broomfield holds on to that pass. It is a pick6 and possible win.

Point being, yeah, he hasn't Had an upset victory. But he has been damn close a few times.

Croom's biggest win vs. a ranked team was vs. #20 Florida....

...Maybe "Jerious Norwood" rings a bell. It's amazing the guy with the sports column & radio show doesn't even know recent MSU football history.

You do realize that this proves exactly the opposite point of the one you're trying to make, don't you? That upsets are kind of random and happen to bad coaches just as much as good ones. In fact, they happen more often to bad coaches because those coaches are underdogs more often. Everybody bitching about Mullen and how he hasn't pulled of a big upset yet needs to remember what it was like to have a coach who can pull off an upset.

Mullen is doing what any MSU football coach..

..is expected to do: He is beating Ole Miss & winning his bowl games. Mullen's biggest win to date was beating the crap out of Michigan in the Gator Bowl. I don't care if they were ranked or not, they're Michigan. That would be the same Michigan that has a thousands times more of a football legacy than Miss. State. And since when has the bar been raised above dominating Ole Miss? That's why Jackie was allowed to hang around 3 years past his expiration date...because of his record against the rioters. Having said all that, MSU football has been a disaster the last 3 weeks. No coaching, no heart & nobody giving a ****. If that doesn't change vs. UPig, I'll come here & lead the pack in bashing Mullen.

I’ll agree that if we lose EITHER of the next two games, much less BOTH of them, it’s a disappointing year overall.

However, in spite of what you seem to think, your opinion is not the sole determinant of which games are “must wins”. We could lose them both and, while disappointing, Mullen’s job is still safe as can be.

We are better than both Arkansas and Ole Miss, so there’s no reason to expect to lose both of these games. The only thing that really concerns me is whether the team can turn the negative momentum of 3 straight losses around. IF we lose this weekend, then you can stick a fork in us for the Egg Bowl. However, I don’t expect that to happen.

Fact. The teams Mullen has lost to at MSU are a combined 168-20 when not playing each other. If you throw out his first season they were 104-7. So yeah. Just keep bitching about how he wasn't the 8th loss for all those teams. You're just making yourself look bad. I honestly have to believe you're just trolling when you keep posting about this.

Wrong! Good coaches win all the games they are favored in. Croom beat teams he wasn't suppose to beat then lost to inferior teams. You've got it backwards!

Now Bama and LSU just have superior athletes then we do, but our effort and unpreparedness for playing A&M at home is inexcusable.

Mullen has won 28 games and counting in his 4 years at MSU. Other than 2007-2010 when Jackie won 33, that's the most since WWII. I'm really not sure why it baffles you that MSU fans would like him.

So was Alabama a couple of days ago. Fact is, Texas A&M is damn good and almost impossible to adequately prepare for the 1st time you see them.

So, we lost to 3 teams in the top 8 and that is "baflling" to you? Those are not top 20 teams, they are top 8 teams. TOP EIGHT. A&M, LSU, and BAMA are on cruise control for their final two games as well... their rankings will go up. Will likely finish at/very near the top 5.

Realistically, more like top 5 teams /=/ top 20 teams. Stupid argument.

A&M doesn't have superior athletes to us? LOL. I think you need to look back at their recruiting under Sherman, where they also employed a redshirting policy very similar to ours.

"The next two games are must win games" - NO joke? When was the last time we lost to two teams(or any team) that received zero votes in ANY poll? I'll be waiting...48 games in... zero losses to teams as bad as the two we are about to play... and they are MUST WINS? Wow.

how is the fact he and Darrell Royal are the only State coaches to have a winning coaching record since WWII baffling to you? That alone should prove what a great job he is doing

Now we could easily lose to Arky or TSUN to end the season.
I want to Believe, but I need to see it on the field...

You would also think he would have one real upset loss. He doesn't.

All these teams you mentioned have handed our faces to us for a decade!!! Who cares if they are down???? You'll never surpass them in the pecking order if you never beat them - even if they are down!

Are we supposed to beat Arkansas this week? Our record vs. Arkansas SINCE THEY JOINED THE SEC is 4-15-1. 3 Wins belong to Jackie, 1 to Croom, 0 to Mullen.

The point is if Mullen can't beat somebody when they are down, he's sure not going to beat them when they're on top!!!!!!

Coach, Croom-led MSU beat Auburn, who had just fallen out of the top 25 with a lost in overtime to South Florida the week prior. That same Auburn team went on to finish that season with 9-4 and an AP ranking of #15, so remember that.

I'll give you that Alabama was ******, but so was MSU. A Michael Henig led offense beat Bama in Tuscaloosa in 06 and our defense beat Saban in 07. Look at all that Mullen has to work with now compared to what Croom had. Look, Croom sucked. I think we can all agree to that. But for him to take MICHAEL 17'N HENIG into BDS at QB and win is saying something.

I just think that after 4 years, it's time for Mullen to pull one of these out, and we all need to stop that "Oh, we better not say anything bad or he'll leave us" that I see on this board.

From what my Tennessee buddies are telling me, he's 2nd on their list behind Gruden, and I've yet to see that discussed on here.
