Mullen may end up falling flat on his face and may not win a game in 5 years

But it's hard not to get excited about our program now. I have tried my best to temper my optimism - and still am - but the promo they showed before the Spring game was awesome. They showed highlights from 1998 (beating Arkansas and Kevin Prentiss returning the punt against UT) andthey showed highlights from the Peach Bowl and the Independence Bowl. Then they wrote "That was the past." "2 National Championships" "2 Heisman trophy winners" "This is the future"

What I have been saying all along is that Mullen may very well end up falling on his face - but he's the TYPE of coach I have wanted now for quite some time - a coach that's young and has the energy to go out there and compete with Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, and the rest of the coaches in the SEC. Also a coach that's a relentless recruiter.

When they ran the very 1st play of the game, I joked that this MUST be illegal - having 5 wide receivers on the field at the same time. About 3 plays in I told my wife and a few friends that went with us that we were ordering season tickets. We may very well only win 3 or 4 this year, but I suspect the years of coaches like Nick Saban referring to losing to us and UL Monroe in the same sentence are limited.

Recruiting is going to tell the tale of Dan Mullen's career here. I think he has a good coaching philosophy and staff. He has good support from Greg Byrne and the fans. His ability to get the guys he needs is going to determine his success or failure here.

You were not put on this earth to get it, Mr. Burton!

Some can coach and can't recruit. Some can recruit and can't coach. Some can do neither.

Hopefully, Mullen can do both. I think he has the coaching part covered.

hung a National Championship banner in the stadium regarding USC's title in O's first big recruiting visit weekend but I guess I'll eat my words... gotta use anything you can, even if's its a reach.

Where did the 2 Heisman winners thing come from? Tell me if I'm wrong here, but Mullen has coached on 2 national title teams and he's coached 1 Heisman winner (Tebow in 2007). He didn't coach another, unless I'm missing something.

because it sounds like MSU is claiming 2 Heisman winners and 2 NC's. Perhaps it was worded differently than the original poster said. Oh, and eat a dick, all 3 of you.

Obviously Tebow and Alex Smith also had appearances as finalists when they didn't win the award, but I didn't think Meyer and Mullen had coached more than 1 Heisman winner.

I don't remember. I do know that is said 2 National Championships. When that came up I thought of Tebow and Alex Smith. Didn't remember if Smith won it or not. It may have even said 2 Quarterback Heisman trophy Finalists.

I kind of thought it was odd that they didn't show ANY highlights of Croom's tenure. None for the Liberty Bowl, nor beating Auburn in 2007 or Florida in 2004. Me thinks the AD wants the fan base to forget about Croom. Maybe if we can just wipe his record clean from our books......

we should erase Shira and Felker out of the record books to. Croom was as good or better than those two in terms of winning big games. I know some people will be up and arms about that, but look up their records. Croom never had a season as bad as Tech and 10 and led us to a bowl, which is something neither of those two did.

I see nothing wrong with showing Norwood's run agianst Florida, AJ's 100 yard INT vs Bama, or Pegues punt return TD against Ole Miss.

To me, it looked like an unecessary swipe at a guy who is gone anyway.

was NEVER mentioned or promoted as a Heisman candidate by anyone at Ole Miss. Certainly was never promoted on the jumbotron.
Where in the world did you come up with that one??

Also OM never put up a national championship banner for USC in our stadium. You guys are a hoot!

to alot of people, Crooms is the same way. I dont want anything associated with him mentioned with our program unless it is showing how much we are improved since he left.

The relentless **** alot of us had to endure about him being our coach was tough to take for 5 years.

but at least when Sherrill left, we didn't try to block out the good things that happened when he was here. Certainly Croom did a lot of bad things, more bad than good, no doubt, but those three moments were big moments in MSU football history. And the focus of those highlights is on the players, not Croom.

Just like Sherrill, I think time will heal some of the wounds. Unlike Sherrill, I'm not sure if he will ever be invited back to campus. He didn't do enough to warrant that, and talked down about MSU way too much.

I guess what I'm saying is don't penalize guys like Norwood, Pegues, and Johnson because they just happened to play at MSU under Croom.
