College athletics, especially SEC, is big business. In the business world you either perform or you get replaced. Dan has the misconception that making $2.6 a year gives you the right to be satisfied with status quo. It gives you the right to promote assistants instead putting forth the effort to search for and hire a qualified individual. It gives you the right to assume that the individual who has practiced the most at a position is the best player at that position instead of pouring thru practice and game film to see if there's someone else with more potential. It gives you the right to schedule 4 horrible non conference teams, enjoy Kentucky as your permanent East opponent and hopefully catch a couple of SEC teams having a horrible enough season that you can squeak by them to get you to a bowl game where you get embarrassed by a lesser team. But you can't blame Dan. He's not the first MSU coach to fall into this mindset.
I see some of you defending him because of winning seasons, bowl game "appearances" etc. That is absurd. Going to a bowl means nothing, especially when you get the crap beaten out of you. Last year proved a winning record means nothing. We were one or two plays away from having a losing record when we caught several SEC teams at their all time worst. That will not likely happen again.
Dan has gone from a fired up, energetic (and pretty obnoxious) young coach to another lethargic, unconcerned MSU coach. It must be something in the water. The scary part is we done have Greg Byrne to get us out of this one.
Dan needs to be given an ultimatum. Either right the ship or move on. This is big business and needs to be treated as such.
