Our DL and LB's played adequate - not great at all but they had some good moments.

The secondary continues to be atrocious. We're already giving up every deep ball even with the big cushion. Might as well play up on the receivers and try to take away the easy 5-yard completions.

The worst part was that we make the change to Watson and he completely whiffs on a couple of tackles on the quick hitch. And poor Zach Smith - at this point I just feel sorry for him being asked to cover anybody and always getting embarrassed. What's worse is that over half the time he's actually somewhat in position to make a play and just never makes it.

I really dont put this on Torbush tonight. Our secondary and tackling are horrible. Not really sure how we held vandy and lsu to 30 yds rushing.

Torbush is going to be jobless at the end of November...and hopefully we sign 5 juco DB's- we need a complete overhaul in the secondary

I would hope that he acknowledged that. GT runs a gimmick offense that we won't see again for who the hell knows how long. I could handle the defensive lapse better than I can handle our seniors (Lee and Dixon) giving away points.

Some of it has to be scheme though right. I realize we have some talent issues but there are other teams with poor talent in the secondary and I don't see other teams leaving guys as open and making as few plays as we do. Heck UAB was ranked like 119 against the pass and they looked signifcantly better against USM's fairly stout passing attack than we did against a team that doesn't really like to throw (granted that GT receiver is pretty good).

Even with low talent - the cushions are just too large. At this point I'd rather take my chances with some bump and run b/c we miss the tackles out of the cushion anyway. At least with a bump and run you might disrupt a timing pass or make the QB make a more difficult throw.

that feels like the lack of talent is so great, it barely matters what we do in the secondary. I'm more disappointed tonight that we didn't stop them on critical inside runs than that we got torched in single coverage. Tough luck for Torbush that he's given this set of clowns in the secondary to work with ... That won't save his job, though.

the turnovers sucked, but dixon's were an anomaly. the worst thing about the defense was giving up all those passing yards. that's something we haven't had a grip on all year

is due to coaching...we are lining up out of position and just not being coached up like we need to be. Torbush was done any favors by the secondary he inherited, but he isnt doing a real good job either.

Kinda like LSU last year- their D shouldnt have been near as bad due to lining up wrong due to scheme by the coaches. LSU's D shouldnt have been 11th in the SEC last year, even with their drop in talent. Thats why Miles made a change- and Chaves is a definite upgrade

We were horrible on tackling tonight. I don't know how many times we had them for a loss and they still picked up 5 or 6 yards. They looked good against LSU tackling. I don't know what the problem was. Our defensive backs looked like their gameplan was to 1) let the receivers catch the ball 2) try to tackle them 3) let them slip through the tackle. Even as badly as we played, we should have won. 21 pts on turnovers and one of them we were about to score on. Don't know about y'all, but I'm keeping the faith. We are muched improved vs the last many years.

of a pass being tossed up 20 yards down field and then seing zach smith just screw the pooch on breaking up/intercepting a pass. That is so frustrating

Not a lot. However, here's one for ya, I don't throw friends under the bus. I am the best friend you never had. The guy who always has your back: for a loan, in a fight (yes, we have all had em), the guy who doesn't call you a puss when your woman leaves, etc. So, yes, no one likes me on here. But, I don't care. Our head coach likes to throw friends under the bus, deny it!

I agree on keeping the faith - I still though we had a chance until their last TD so that's two weeks in a row with an insane number of turnovers and yet we still had chances to win.

I'm not a Torbush fan by any means, but I didn't have a problem with this particular gameplan, even with issues stopping the run. We had them in several key 3rd-and-longs, and most of that lead to massive pass plays that gashed our DBs. We'll see if he can make any adjustments with the talent he's got.

I know that we have HUGE gaping holes in the secondary, but Torbush hasn't done much to help them out. By that I mean not dialing up pressure to force hurried throws and employing the 3 man front and soft coverage. It may be time to start a collection to beg Ellis Johnson to come back. Losing Torbush wouldn't hurt my feelings any.

What's wrong with a offensive head coach telling a bunch of reporters what they already knew from watching the game. And that's that our defensive coaching staff isn't getting the job done. If I'd have watched our secondary suck for the 5th straight week I'd have said a lot worse. Our secondary simply can't cover or tackle and some of that has to be lack of coaching.

I've been told on several occassions that Melvin is a very poor position coach - that's it's his recruiting ability alone that keeps him employed on various staffs.

Man, you always have an intelligent response, don't you? Must be hard coming up with those. You must take a lot of aspirin for straining your brain like that. I have noticed it is a pattern.

I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to jump on that quote and stroke their pecker with it. It'll probably be a pretty popular signature quote on NAFOOM in a few days.

Dig away, bud.

Sorry, I just think it is in poor taste. Remember, Greg Byrne last year kept saying that any coaching decisions will be handled at the end of the season--good taste. Mullen should just say that he has to coordinate with his staff and implement some changes, otherwise, he just seems to be passing the buck.

we have with talent because he inherited what we've got from Croom. However, any issues with the coaching staff go directly back to Dan. He hired every assistant coach he has and there were certainly a lot of eyebrows raised when he decided to hire Torbush. So any throwing of Torbush under the bus should include throwing himself under there as well. Nobody that I know of thought that was a good hire. But that being said, if the offense is going to continue to give up 4 or 5 turnovers every week with some of those going directly for scores, its hard to put the blame strictly on the defense.

but when you're six games into the season and you start throwing your DC under the bus, it is a rookie mistake. Sure it puts your underling on notice. But it also makes your players question your staff. I just think it's bush league and ******. And I would say that if it were Nutt, Meyer, Saban etc.

It's also not the kind of statement you like to be asked about by the candidate to replace Torbush in the interview. He'll learn.

i don't know if this was brought up yet or not, but the very first thing he says in the press conference is that he's never been involved in a game where you don't punt and you lose, that was due to the four turnovers, you can't win when you have four turnovers, and he's doing a bad job as a head coach with that. you probably didn't watch his press conference because i don't know why you would, but he sure sounds like he's taking blame to me. he can say whatever he wants about the defense as long as he doesn't ignore any of our problems

here's the conference

out of chicken **** on the offensive side of the ball. He also knows that traditionally, MSU has fielded respectable defenses. I'm sure he's frustrated as hell with the non-support he's getting from the defensive coaches and players. We didn't even threaten to stop GA Tech the entire game. And LSU could have thrown the ball all over us if they had a non-retard for a head coach. We take no chances on defense. We allow the opposing offense to dictate to us. I'm no genius by any stretch, but I think that KJ Wright is playing out of position at LB. He needs to be rushing the passer off the edge.

...In his postgame interview with jim, you absolutely clueless ****** moron. He said the turnovers were an indication of a poorly coached team, and "that's on me," and that "myself and the defensive coaches did a poor job." Now what, *******?

I do think Mullen does a good job with postgame interviews - he shoulders the blame for the most part and puts responsibility on the coaches.

Everybody knows your going to have turnovers - it's part of the game. But the right now we're simply making too many and the two Dixon had tonight absolutely killed us as the gave points to GT on one and took points away on another.

The Relf one was poor b/c he really didn't take much of a lick or have a guy make a good strip of the ball. He was a little more careless.

Can't blame Lee for his fumble. He got hammered when the OL failed to block a stunt.

I don't know what the hell Veasey "tweeted," but in the postgame interview with Jim Ellis he COMPLETELY took the blame for everything ... like he always does. I don't get this "throwing under the bus" stuff. In contrast to Croom, he's not always saying it's the execution. He always says it is his fault and the coaching staff's fault for not getting the players in the position to win. In other words, he's letting the coaching staff -- including himself -- take the blame instead of blaming the players.

Gimmick offense had nothing to do with it. We ran the option more effectively than Georgia Tech did tonight. We let a QB who had 34 completions on the SEASON come in and torch us for 260+ yards. And 17 Zach Smith to hell. He's nothing more than a waste of space that comes in and jumps on the pile as 10 other guys are making a tackle. From his sorry coverage, to his getting plowed over at the goal line 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage, #42 gave up 21 points by himself tonight. No reason he should see the field again this year. If Mullen says he is disappointed with the defensive staff for not adjusting, then he should hold them accountable for #42.

Mullen said after the game it all falls on him. He took the blame. Said "It's my fault."

Spin that. Go after Mullen some other way. That way ain't gonna work.
