In assessing Ole Miss' talent, here was part of his response: "They had some NFL talent last year and it looks like they have NFL talent this year," Mullen said. "Coach Orgeron did a great job recruiting to that staff there. That's what he does. He's done that everywhere he's been."

about MSU not having to use negative recruiting was better. I like how he did it- he talked about all of the positive things that MSU has, and he came out looking good.

Dan may be a first year coach, but he knows what the heck he is doing.

It's not as if Mullen is completely over looking the fact that Nutt is the coach at Ole Miss. He's simply saying that Orgeron did a good job of bringing in NFL talent while he was there.

Am I missing the bigger picture?

Ole Miss is reaping the rewards from Orgeron's recruiting + his plan to get them eligible. Meanwhile, our former staff was offering scholarships to Ty Evans and Josh Hollingsworth.

Nutt hopped on the Ole Miss Gravy wagon due to those recruiting classes. I give Nutt one more year at the most at Ole Miss. Hell he might be gone this year. Face it McCluster (spelling and don't care) is their offense. He makes things happen. He is gone next year and what does Ole Miss have on the bench to replace him? If Nutt ends up going 10 and three for the year and a big school opportunity comes open he could be gone.

Saying that Nutt would leave is pretty asinine, really. A "big school" opportunity? Ole Miss is currently a winning SEC program. How much "bigger" does it get? Is Notre Dame going to knock down the door for Houston Nutt? Is USC going to fire Pete Carroll and come calling? Absolutely not.

By the way, there's a reason why guys like Jesse Grandy and Rodney Scott have gotten snaps running the ball. I didn't even mention Korvic Neat or Raymond Cotton.

Someone will get moved, or step up. With Bolden, Grandy, Snead, Patterson, etc. there will be players on offense. Not McCluster's ability, but decent. Plus, Nutt's recruiting class last year was better than any Eddie ever brought in, and almost all the good ones got into school. O sure brought some talent, but he also left gaping holes. It's funny how this board constantly talked about how overrated O's recruiting was, now all of a sudden it was great. O left us well under the scholarship limit, with huge numbers problems. It wasn't all sunshine and roses.

from an offered player. There were many, many people on Genespage that defended that offer. Shocking, I know.

Tray Rutland, Mike Henig, Ty Evans, Josh Hollingswoth, Wes Carroll, Chris Relf, Josh Riddell. Not to mention the year we didn't sign a QB. Just let that sink in. We gave Orgeron a free pass for 3 years.

no one thought that your offense was all mcluster b/c we all thought Snead was better and that there were other receivers outside of hodge. That wasn't the case, which kind of goes to the opposite of your point.

...your offense was horrible before you started feeding McCluster. Next year, it'll be back on Snead with a worse offensive line.

The fact is that Snead should be returning with Brandon Bolden, Enrique Davis, Jesse Grandy, and Rodney Scott all available to run the ball. I didn't even mention Tim Simon or Korvic Neat, who were both redshirts.

Losing Hodge hurts, but Patterson, Breaux, and Summers have all seen serious time this season.

The drop off isn't going to be as big as you think....

have proven not much this year. Patterson certainly has the talent to be great, but how many of offensive linemen do you guys next year? I mean someone will have to protect Snead. He has shown that if pressured he will self-destruct. Again Bolden, going to need some blocking. Another guy that OM will miss a lot is Shay Hodge. Hodge seemed to come up with big play after big play against LSU. Grandy is a damn good return man, but beyond that he has a short TD against LSU and a good game against SELA. One more question, do you guys expect Powe to enter the draft? He has to be getting up there age wise for a DT especially if he is considering his future.

It always has to be spun in the Magnolia state. Sometimes by our own fans.

That is really, really reaching for Veazy.

As for Nutt, he needs to be checking facts before running off at the mouth.

You sound like the many Ole Miss fans that told me Mike Wallace was no big loss. I believe they even cited Breaux and Patterson pre-season as well. You and OP4 are the kind of guys that eat up everything Yancy says.

OP4, haven't you already lost 4 star Drummond and 4 star Barksdale from Nutt's amazing recruiting class. Not to mention, Hornsby. It's hard to evaluate with 37 signees.

you made the argument about people stepping up when in reality, Mcluster has become the whole offense b/c no one actually did step up.

Yeah OKAY. The whole paragraph is nonsense, but the bold sentence kills all your credibility.

The next four years are going to be fun watching all of you backtrack on this board. That's about as certain of a message board prediction as there ever can be.

Ole Miss should be fine next year...They only lose the following "starters" due to eligibility: Eason (RB), Hartmann (FB), Hodge (WR), McCluster (WR), Harris (TE), Jerry (OL), Neely (OL), Green (OL), Geralds (OL), Lewis (S), Vaughn (CB), Green (CB), Tillman (TE) and Trahan (LB) "non-starter": Stephens (DE), Hardy (DE), Armour (DT) and Brumfield (LB)....
This assumes no one goes pro (insert Snead joke here).

At the beginning of the season I thought Ole Miss was over rated and it turns out they were. If it was not for a weak schedule Ole Miss would be sitting at best six or seven wins. I did think McCluster was a good player and I am surprise your coach took such a stupid approach at using him. When McCluster is on the field, he open's thing up even if he don't get the ball. When he is not on the field Ole Miss Offense is nothing. Look at his stats and then look at Ole Miss total stats over the past few games. He is your offense. Nutt is an opportunist dumb *** and he continues to prove it. He proved it every week at Arkansas and their fans finally woke up and ran his *** off. Ole Miss has one thing going for it, Ole Miss is not a national power house or a big name school and his opportunist *** will go on his own. So go back over to Nafooms and talk about the newest music CD's and about how jealous Miss State fans are and enjoy your season.

season without him. And without Oher. And without Jerry. All we heard in the preseason from this board is that we would be worse without those guys, we had no one to replace them, etc. Well, if we beat State we will have a better record without those guys. Nutt found a way to win. Snead had a terrible year and regressed horribly and we are still poised to go to a New Year's Day Bowl. Why is it so hard to believe other guys will step up when we just did it this year?

McCluster was averaging about 9-10 touches a game coming into Arkansas when Ole Miss was 4-2 with wins against Memphis, SELU, Vandy and UAB. Since then, he has gotten about 30 touches a game.

Arkansas - (W)
22 rushes for 123 yards
7 receptions for 137 yards, 1 TD

Auburn - (L)
22 rushes for 186 yards, 1 TD
4 receptions for 17 yards

UNA - didn't dress...smart decision

Tenn - (W)
25 rushes for 282 yards, 4 TDs
4 receptions for 42 yards

LSU - (W)
24 rushes for 148 yards
1 comp for 27 yards, 1 TD
3 receptions for 18 yards

Ole Miss needs to ride this pony this weekend and through the Capitol One Bowl. I am not going to be upset to see him leave. How many of these games would Ole Miss have lost without McCluster, who the hell knows?

at this point in the season? You can sit there and say I'm a joke, but all I have to do is point to the standings. Without those guys, we had a better record than with those guys.

Yall did play two D-II teams this year also, that could have something to do with your record being better.
