Would make sense, did UNLV ever find the funding for the 3 final years of his contract? Wouldn’t surprise me if he found out they can only afford him through next season, and he’s looking for some stability.

It’s probably harder to win at Memphis than UNLV. Might not be a great idea.

Maybe he is putting himself into position to take over the MSU job when it comes open next November.
Do mountain west champs have a decent shot at playoffs? Doesn't look like it this year. Maybe he's thinking AAC is better path for playoff chances?

Last three coaches at Memphis have come out with good jobs (VT, FSU, Ark). Don’t know current NIL relative to others in conference. UNLV financial situation may be a factor

Fred threw in 20 million to Memphis's NIL by himself before he died. A lot of which hasn't been spent yet. Understand about $200 million of his estate will go to the U. of Memphis, some of which will find its way to the AD. Mullen might find a nice budget to buy some talent in the coming years.

I thought I had heard rumblings of Memphis being a power team on the up and coming. The money was starting to flow much more than the other teams in their conference.

Keep in mind, I don’t even know what conference they are in but I did stay in a holiday inn over Thanksgiving.

He can commute to Memphis from Starkville & be all set for next November
Commuting is one option (didn't Sirmon commute from Tuscaloosa, or some other far-flung place ?). We can see if Mullen buys a $10M house in Memphis. If he doesn't, he's headed back to Starkville. **

I think Memphis would be a fine stepping stone, but it's unnecessary unless UNLV is telling him they aren't going to be able to pay him.

He can get a better job next year, where if he goes to Memphis after one year and then tries to leave Memphis after one year, surely a lot of the schools that would otherwise be interested (i.e., mid or low tier P4 schools) will be worried about dealing with the will he stay or will he go distraction every year.
