Simply because WE DON'T HAVE A DEEP THREAT AT ALL RIGHT NOW. And Brassell has very, very good speed. Much better than anything we've got.

It doesn't take football IQ to run a streak. Not saying he'll be anything more than some speed on the outside, but I don't think it's a stretch to say he can go deep.

Carr was supposed to be our deep threat this season- and look what happened...

I'm not saying he can or cant- BUT-If he cant grasp the offense- he isnt going to play- period.

It's hard for me to get excited about any true freshman we sign playing their first season and making an impact. It just doesnt happen often at State

That is fastest as in straight away speed. Would he be our best deep threat also if he was on this team?

There is a lot more to being a deep threat than just running fast. A whole lot more.

If Brassell doesn't show up til next August, I'm sure he won't be able to contribute either, but I'm going to assume he gets in for at least half the summer.

Micheal Carr- athletic enough to be on the field in the SEC even as Freshman- but his football IQ is probably no better than my 8 yr old daughter (altho hers is pretty good)...

My nephew has a football class with him and Carr did less than stellar on a Wide Receiver test (he did pass).
is one of the biggest factors on a fr playing and being RS. I also think learning the playbook is a major factor with Fr.Blocking for a high school is a lost art. I watched most of the State Playoffs and most of the Wr would not block anyone on a play. If they did they could not hold the block very long. It's things like this that keep Fr. on the bench. that Smith kid that played so well toward the end of the year number 8 I think. The kid can catch but he would not block. Later on in the season I watched him and he got better but no where near where he needs too be. Missing blocks by the wr is the difference in a good gain or a TD.

Carr might not be the greatest example though- a big reason that he is behind is because he got to school late.

But there are some better examples on the team- Chris Smith is just now starting to come into his own the last two games of the year. Robert Johnson from Oak Grove was one of the top WR's in the state, and he is RS. Even Bumphis has some things that he needs to work on.

But that said, if some of these guys can come in and use their athleticism and make a play or two a game next year, that would be an improvement over this year. Even Carr has been able to do that some this year the second half of the season.

And you are right about South Panola's offense- it's not exactly a real complex thing. To further your point- Madison Central's offense was pretty much option out of the I-formation. Tobias mainly was catching screen passes, an occasional slant that was usually poorly thrown, and then a fly pattern. I haven't seen Joe Morrow, but Ocean Springs barely throws the ball. I'm not sure of their scheme, it might be the flexbone. The most sophisticated offense I saw last year was Tupelo.

coaches are tied to their locker room, until they have a contract... then when they sign the contract ...the other locker room is where they are tied...

"I'm not going anywhere" is black and white, "I'm not planning to go anywhere" is grey. Plans can change at the drop of a hat.
