State can now compete with the salaries of Nebraska and Michigan. In fact, Mullen's salary is already about the same or more. ( Pelini was making about $3.1 million. Hoke's salary was $2.3 million.)

20 years ago, Miss. State could not have begun to compete if Nebraska or Michigan wanted to take
a head coach from State. TV money and other income have closed the gap as a percentage where we can compete.
For exmaple, in 2005, Nebraska's total athletic budget was $62,764,025. In 2013, it was $86,916,000. In 2005, State's athletic budget was $25,502,594. In 2013, it was about $63,000,000.

Michigan has a lot more money ($140 million.) . But it has a lot more sports to support. And talk about living conditions. Have you ever tried to play golf in Nebraska or Michigan in December or January?

State's facilities can compete with almost any college.

Michigan does favor a coach that will run it up the middle. Maybe Dan was sending a message during the Egg Bowl**
