He will be missed by Bulldogs and friends everywhere. I agree, a statue would be great.

One of a kind.

A legend.

Painted a picture of what was transpiring on the gridiron...and the hardwood.

RIP Jack. Save us a seat, old friend.

"It's fourth and so long, they'll need surveying equipment to find the first down" God bless you Jack Cristil. Rest in peace and wrap heaven in maroon and white.

He was a great man, and a great bulldog. I once attended a wedding in tupelo and he was there, sitting in a row of chairs, by himself. I went up and introduced myself, and asked him for his thoughts on that years team, as I'm sure many others did. He had every right to blow a 20-something frat-boy off, but he proceeded to make my year and had a 5-10 minute conversation with me. He will be greatly missed.

Wrap it in Maroon and White, Rest in peace, Mr. Cristil

The Saddest Day, that none of us ever wanted to have come.

Jack was left an undeniable impression, on anyone he ever came across.

I hope to Jack again, someday. And that day will be without time constraints. I hope to spend that day listening of never ending stories from Jack, and Bob Hartley.

So many memories and great moments. When I was younger I was able to meet jack several times. The man always represented the university well and will be sorely missed.... Wrap it in maroon and white.

Honestly, it feels like a part of my childhood just died..

I wonder how many times I sat in the house or rode in a car with my parents while listening to his voice. No doubt, hundreds.

Im just incredibly sad right now.

Mr. Cristil is a MSU legend and was a great ambassador for MSU. Nobody will ever have the unique method of broadcasting that he had. I grew up listening to Mr. Cristil on the radio. Nobody could make you feel like you were at a MSU game, if you couldn't attend, than Mr. Cristil could. I remember the "You can wrap this one up in Maroon and White" and how happy he was. when he could say that, as well as us hearing those words. Prayers go out to to his family during this sad time, and may the Lord be with them and comfort them in their time of need.

Absolutely the best that ever was... I have missed hearing him since he retired, he painted a picture with words that no other broadcaster could ever do. Jack made you feel as if you were actually at the game. Thanks so much Jack. RIP and "Wrap it in Maroon and White".

Jack was in the middle of calling a game in 2002 when the newly appointed SEC commissioner Mike Slive wanted to meet Jack. Slive entered the booth and came up behind Jack and grabbed his shoulders. Luckily Houston McDavvit hit the mute button on the broadcast. Jack said something to the effect that he didn't give a damn who he was, you don't distract me or lay your hands on me when I'm working. How would you like it if I put my hands on you in the middle of your closing arguments to the jury.
Jack left an impression with everyone.

Thought about him yesterday when ...

walking away from the stadium after leaving with 4:00 to go, I heard a recording of "wrap it in maroon and white, wrap it in maroon and white" at the game's conclusion. Wondered how he was. What a sad day.

How many times do you hear that a 88 year old chain-smoker in poor health passed away and think "NOOOO!!!!"? He was truly a legend.

He retired while I was in college. It's mentioned any time everyone brings up how great he was, but it's true... He binds almost every living generation of bulldogs. Not only was he the best, he was the best for 60 years. Incredible. They'll never be another.

He painted the image in my childhood with his words of what it meant to be a true bulldog.
He will be missed!

Like so many others, I feel as though a part of my childhood has died. How many of us spent Saturday afternoons with our fathers listening to Jack bring a football game to life? Even now, as I watch football and basketball games, some of Jack's memorable phrases pop into my head.

I posted a list of some of my favorite "Cristilisms" a few years back and am pasting it here:

1. "Don Smith is engineering at quarterback for the Bulldogs, and the six-tall youngster hailing from Hamilton, Mississippi reads a four man defensive front with a three-linebacker set."

2. "Head coach Richard Williams is stylishly bedecked in his grey suit, harmonized with his maroon tie."

3. "The Bulldogs are seven yards away from the land of milk and honey, trailing nothing to three with two times out remaining."

4. "John Fourcade is hit and he is dropped, into the customary seating position. They will spot the ball along the forty-four yard stripe, 'they' being the working officials."

5. "The maroon-headgeared, maroon-jersied, white trousered Bulldogs have football possession with the ball equidistant from the sideline stripes, first and three and goal to go."

6. "The Bulldog offensive linemen are performing yeoman duty along the forward wall."

7. "The handoff is to the tailback and he cannot go, as he is stacked up by a writhing mass of humanity along the three yard line, led by Glenn Collins and Johnny Cooks."

8. "It's as cold as a pawnbroker's heart, but this crowd is alive here at Scott Field."

9. "Reggie Collier wants to throw . . . now under pressure and he's hit and dropped for a loss by Aaron Pearson," [Aaron then celebrates wildly] "and Aaron is aroused."

10. "And Dampier slams it in the goal. Kentucky asks for and receives time out, and we'll now pause for these messages on the Mississippi State network from Coke, from State Farm, and from our good friends at Iupe's, on the Square in Canton."

He is the reason I went to Mississippi State. One of my favorite comments from Mr. C would come during a game against UGA. He would always say, "When we refer to the Bulldogs, we will be referring to the Mississippi State variety and when we refer to Georgia, we will say Georgia".

Thank you, Mr. Cristil. I hope you re-write the cowbell rules up in Heaven.

Always loved sitting right below him in the HUMP. That cigar smoke was always interesting, and some of the colorful phrases never got old.

The press box is named for Bob Hartley. Not as many people know that name, but longtime Bulldogs and in particular Bulldog media members do. I love Jack, but that one can't happen.

Perhaps the radio booth could be considered separate entity and be rechristened for Jack. Not only would it be a nice honor, but every home game could be broadcast from the "Jack Cristil Radio Booth, high atop Davis Wade Stadium." Would be nice to hear his name over the air like that every week.

I will never forget listening to Jack with my dad when I was a kid. On the radio in the living room. He was the voice I associated with Mississippi State before I was old enough to know what Mississippi State was. RIP Jack

Jack hated Kentucky Wildcat Basketball and often got emotional when he was

calling those games. I remember him saying something along the lines " and the bulldogs bring the ball up the court against the patented Kentucky karate defense, we're getting mugged" I also heard him scream at the refs against them one time and said give me that damn whistle.

They can have both, Bob Hartley press box and Jack Cristil radio booth. Press doesn't use the broadcast booth and vice versa
