I guess I don’t— sadly it’s been too long since I truly was all in on basketball.Remember he almost quit the team early sec play in the 23/24 season
No kidding. It’s really hard for me to have any sort of negative opinion or response to any player who chooses to not participate in the NIT. It just doesn’t matter.I’m surprised Auburn accepted an NIT bid. Unlike some woman’s team I’m vaguely aware of.
It's like every basketball player is a wide receiver.Basketball players always have has their fair share of self centered guys all about themselves but nil and transfer portal has made it worse.
Murph is a freakin' head case. Was when he was here, and nothing has changed with his new stripes. He’ll be broke inside a year and blaming everyone else instead of owning why he didn't make the league.
Well, I'm sure they knew he wasn't playing because missing practice without letting anyone know means he was kicked off or not going to be allowed to play.No kidding. It’s really hard for me to have any sort of negative opinion or response to any player who chooses to not participate in the NIT. It just doesn’t matter.
The line at the end was funny, and full of butthurt. “Did not communicate the decision to the staff beforehand”. Pretty sure the not showing up to practice part was a pretty clear communication. And it was still “beforehand” when the tweet was posted and somehow they knew he wasn’t playing.
Where I’m at with it - Selection Sunday was literally the evening before the missed practice on Monday. NIT field wasn’t set until later that evening after the NCAA field was done. Auburn didn’t know if / when they’d be practicing and playing until late Sunday evening.Well, I'm sure they knew he wasn't playing because missing practice without letting anyone know means he was kicked off or not going to be allowed to play.
I'd be pretty butthurt if my player did that, personally. At least let me know the decision (even though I think it's BS the player can decide to sit playoffs out (but I'm with you- I'm also tired of all of these expanded playoff tourneys to let everyone get to play. They're all just for revenue.)
Or, knowing you’re on the bubble but probably not making it, let them know then you don’t intend to play in the NIT and thank them for their investment. At the very least.Where I’m at with it - Selection Sunday was literally the evening before the missed practice on Monday. NIT field wasn’t set until later that evening after the NCAA field was done. Whether he sent the coaching staff a text or call at 9 or 10 PM on Sunday night to say that he was done (as opposed to just not showing up to NIT practice less than 4-5 waking hours away) just isn’t super relevant to me….especially compared to all the other nonstop BS that’s going on elsewhere with NIL, the portal, etc. And if the coaching staff’s view of “beforehand” is that he didn’t tell them at any point in the season he would not play anymore if they didn’t make the NCAA’s, then that’s a pretty dumb expectation on their end.
Overall point - that final statement reeks of something that was shoehorned in there by the coaching staff to make Murphy look selfish, look like a head case, etc. and try to distract from their own total incompetence in derailing the momentum of Auburn’s program.
Zero - inmates run the asylumHow much of his NIL contract will he forfeit for not finishing the post season?
I think you may be giving him too much credit. European leagues? He was a bum when he was here and he was a bum at Auburn… an athletic bum.. bust still a bum.
The European leagues will eat him alive.
At Auburn, he had a season-long BPM of +9.1. How good is that? Well, if it happened at MSU, it would be the highest BPM of any player in our history since that stat started being recorded for college players in 2010 or so. And it would be the highest by a landslide….the current record for single season BPM at MSU is Q. Weatherspoon’s +8.1 in 2018-2019.He was a bum when he was here and he was a bum at Auburn… an athletic bum.. bust still a bum.

Honestly I don’t know why Auburn even accepted that NIT bid. And I understand why our ladies didn’t. It’s just a complete waste of time.Murphy wasn't the only one who skipped this NIT game. 85 game sellout streak snapped at Auburn. 2,100 fans showed up. The end of an era.
