That's what I thought. My mother was wanting to listen to the game. She loves the dogs football program but she is getting up in age and has a hard time getting on the substandard visitor bleachers on the visitors side.
I think it's by far the best in SMC. In 5-6 yrs will have a new shiny stadium with a track aeound it, but it won't ever be Big Oaks.
Hahaha if you think Big Oaks is "by far" the best in the SMC then you need to get out of Graham County more. Maybe best game atmosphere, but not best stadium.

I honestly dont see how. With a track u are pushed back 15 or 20 feet from the field. That cannot be fixed.
I think Murphy and rville are the only two SMC teams without a track around field.

Rosman doesn't have a track around the field either, but they do now have a newly paved sidewalk around the stadium, and the prison fence is gone, and has been replaced by a smaller fence with brick columns at each corner of the field....Great upgrade for Silversteen stadium, and much easier to watch a game than has been the case since the Prison Fence was installed many moons ago....
Big Oak Stadium is a great atmosphere, but the visitor's side has needed work for years....Glad to hear about the new stadium, and will be interested to see how it looks....Is it going to be in the same location as Big Oak, or will the new stadium be closer to the High School?
As for the game, it's hard not to pick Murphy simply because the Bulldogs will be super motivated to play this game since the Black Knights have had their number the past couple of years....I have not seen Murphy play yet, but I know they have a lot of the same weapons that they had last year, and those players are now a year older, and are probably stronger and faster than they were last year....Would be surprised if Murphy doesn't win by at least a couple TDs this friday?
It will be at the practise field at the highschool. It's a great field but who wants a track around it.

Cherokee doesn't have a track lol it's around the soccer field
Then Cherokee is top s for our conference. I thought it had a track. Someone knew what they was doing in Cherokee then..
It's a shame for everybody, mainly the kids and older folks and those having to work,, that such a huge game is banned from radio coverage.. it doesn't make any sense. But I really do think the atmospheres at Big Oaks and The Hill are the 2 best for a big game in NC. Can't be beat anywhere. I'm old enough to remember when the Daytona 500 was blacked out on live TV years ago because Nascar thought it would hurt the crowd. Then Nascar goes on live Tv and the popularity of the sport goes thru the roof. Sometimes you just have to shake your head in disbelief..........
Haha.. Always ironic that every time Murphy comes to Robbinsville that this discussion about Radio comes up and ends up with a few Murphy posters talking about how bad the Stadium is. Agree the visitors side seats are bad...although close to the action. But as bad as they are, it doesn't compare to that ratty dump of a gym that Murphy calls home..dread going over there to smother every year. Both schools have areas that could be more fan friendly within their school..just sayin.
I agree with the track thing. I don't like the stadiums that have them. I'm from Erwin and you are literally right on top of the field. It makes the games feel much more personal. Is Robbinsville's new field going to be turf. I would like to catch a game there and at Murphy as well. Those are two of the few places I haven't seen a game at in wnc.
The chief complaint among most visitors is the stands on that side of the field. I can live with it I kind of like how close they are to the field. It makes the game up close and personal, you feel like you could jump out there and make a tackle. The drawbacks are sometimes it's hard to see the whole field if you're sitting to far on one end of the stands and it can be hard to see over the players. I love the atmosphere though.
Robbinsville's field is great for the home team but is absolutely terrible for the the visitors, especially for big games. Not enough seats, you can't see. Definitely time for an upgrade. I don't see why the main visiting set of bleachers can't be extended up higher and widened down towards the parking lot. You could very easily have a set of bleachers ten to fifteen rows higher than what they are now and fifteen yards longer or so. It would definitely add to the big stump experience.
I wish they would just put in new visitor bleachers and leave the games at Big Oaks. To me Big Oaks and The Hill are like the Wrigley Field and Fenway Park of high school football. They both have something you can't buy, even with Jerry Jones' money, ATOMSPHERE and TRADITION. Like Nascar, all these new cookie cutter tracks can't hold a candle to a place like Darlington. And Hayesville's gym is proof that a nice, new facility can still have horrible viewing angles for a game. I'd wager in private Jacket fans would tell you they would like a do over on the design of that place. After new seating was put in for The Hill at Murphy in 2007 it should be good to go for the next 25 years.
New seata and a sound system would be all BO needs. Restrooms on visiting side and redo home side restrooms. I would do all the drywall and painting for free. (Labor that is)
Progressive s get in change and all the good old things get replaced with new shiny things that are usually not as good. I am going fight for big oaks but like the 4 lane it probably won't do any good.
I agree, they just need to upgrade what they have. Fix the visitors side bleachers and it would be fine.
They also need to increase the sideline space on the visitors side at BO. Coaches almost have to be on he field.
Nice suggestions for improvements to the football stadium at Robbinsville...any suggestions for the dilapidated gym in Murphy? Just wondering if anything could be done for that dump that several sports use and fans have to visit?
Yes Murphy has the worst gym in SMC. Sucks for youth leave too. The attach back boards to the existing backboards. I don't mind the suggestions to improve BO and I don't mean any disrespect in my suggestions on Murphy's gym.
