Muschamp needs to tread carefully with discipline

Muschamp probably didn't have much of a choice with Jenkins. It was too
stupid and public. Also, Muschamp is a new head coach and wants to try
and establish a reputation of hard discipline and holding his players accountable.

If
the Gators want to compete for championships like they have been
accustomed to recently, then these incidents should be handled as
private and lenient as possible. Let's face it, the state of Florida has
three schools that have all been powerhouses, and can all return to
their glory. Recently it has been UF because Meyer recruited the talented (questionable character) FL
thugs and gave them easy penalties for wrong-doing in order to keep them
on the team. Meyer had like what? 30 or more players arrested while he
was coach? I think FSU is on the rise. Jimbo knows
what it takes to win in the state of Florida. If Muschamp doesn't figure
out the "game" quickly, then UF fans should probably prepare themselves
for perennial 8-9 win seasons under Muschamp, pretty mediocre by their
newly renowned standards.

At MSU , however, you better keep the talent around you got. Look at Sly Croom. He kicked off everybody halfway decent on the team. Mullen has been a superstar at dealing with attrition.

anymore, so keeping these high profile, high risk players will be a necessity for the championship level success that UF fans expect. Florida can't afford to be tossing off 5 star players like they probably could the last 5 years.

Shannon showed that high graduation rates and exemplary character behavior does not equal enough wins in the state of Florida. Now Muschamp may very well be a better overall coach than Shannon, but I doubt he would have taken Miami's high character players to 10 or 11 wins.

With Florida's recruiting at the top of the board it didn't really hurt Miami or FSU. They both still brought in really dang good classes, FSU more so but I mean that makes sense.Its not like FSU ever fell off the map. Muschamp having control over his program is not gonna hand over the reigns to the rest of the state. That is still going to have to happen on the field.

I applaud the decision to part ways with the kid. This situation they had no choice really so I don't think its a sign of things to come of some iron fisted Muschamp.

I don't see how you can keep some yahoo on the team that got busted three times for the same offense...it kinda sets a precedent. He just doesn't give a 17. Jenkins had to be thinking "they ain't gonna do sh*t to me". wrong!

Shannon is and will always be the example of how college football and/or basketball is not at all about the student athlete. Fans can pretend to care about that stuff, but it's all about winning. Miami is a good academic school that enjoys that academic reputation, but even at Miami, they couldn't accept mediocre football even if it was by a team that graduated and didn't have off-field issues. They made the statement essentially that they preferred the 1980s/early 90s Canes football where they got in trouble off the field and kicked butt on the field.
