It is hard to be a defensive coordinator when your own team runs the hurry up offense. You are going to give up points simply because you are worn out. Malzahn needs to look in the mirror rather than firing good DCs and now throwing money at the problem.

I agree with this.

The two DCs that worked with Malzahn here were Ted Roof and Ellis Johnson. Are those "good" DCs? Meh.....I don't think so.

I hate to ruin your bashing of Malzahn with facts, but he was 59th in avg. plays/G. That's in the range of Bama, UPigg, and TSUN.

How much of that was due to their defense not being able to get off the field? If you don't have the ball, you can't run plays.

I wonder how much of that was the defense's inability to get off the field? It's no secret he wants to play offense fast, so being 59th is kind of a surprise.

They are absured. My disdain for the NFL is partly due to crazy salaries for players and coaches. Im afraid I'm getting the same negative vibes for college sports as well.

Opp's TOP would be a better stat to determine that

Why is that? The clock running isn't wearing the defense out. It's the amount of reps.

AU is 58th in Opp TOP (50%) if that's what you're wondering. In line with State, UF, Tenn.

If opp TOP was high, that would explain why auburn didn't run a lot of plays

NBA and MLB salaries are much more absurd than NFL salaries....

not to mention that NFL players actually do risk life and limb every time they step on the field. And those contracts numbers they throw around aren't anywhere near what the guys actually make. They can get fired tomorrow and be owed nothing, just like you or me. If you're not a QB, LT, or pass rusher, you'd rather be playing basketball or baseball as far as money is concerned. Gordon Heyward makes $15M/year.. nice player but let that sink in.
