Word has it that MSU didn't even share their orange slices at the end of quarter TV break.

i love the reply, snapping all back into perspective. although.... as i was in the stands and that play happened, i was having flashbacks of OM v. Air Force oh so long ago when they were busy throwing bombs with the starters late in their blowout win.

in the grand scheme though, it was early/mid third quarter, and it might have been a request by the players to have some fun. we didn't score.... and dude almost intercepted it.

i was nearly impressed with the rice fans. we were sitting in section 101 so we got to hear/see the chick with the 2x4 clappers... and all the quirky fan signs. at the start of the third quarter, they were lively. when we scored... the fans remained lively. when it got to the fourth quarter though.... there was no movement and very little noise.

This is what I said too. You know the players were dying to run that play and had begun asking the coach if they could run it.

I told the guy sitting beside me that it was ironic that our receivers had been running open all day, but that they had their best coverage of the day on that trick play.

I like the response too. It was late 3rd quarter. No reason not to let the players have some fun. We took the starters out at the beginning of the 4th. Also, the only reason we didn't score on the play was the DB pushed off and knocked our receiver out of the way, leaving him with a play on the ball. Pretty obvious pass interference the refs missed.

It reminded me of a play we ran in the old neighborhood 40 years ago that was made up 15 seconds before it was run. Point being, if your defense gets beat on a "draw it up in the dirt" play, you need to get on their asses instead of the team that ran it.

I don't mind running plays like that, like others are saying you know the players were wanting to run it to have some fun, so why not. The guy behind me made the comment "Mullen getting a little too cute in the play calling", I told him theyare just trying to have some fun, and no harm done since it fell incomplete.

Yeah, during the play I didnt see it because of the camera view, but on replay, it was almost comical how hard the DB pushed off.

So, are you saying that it wouldn't have been "fun" if it was ran during the previous 44:00? Or maybe just that the slap in the face wouldn't have been so rewarding?
