There were few changes in my Top 15 1A Football teams poll from week 4 to 5. This was not the case after Week 6.

12 of the 15 went up or down or out.

I will post last week's poll as well for comparison. 5 of the top 15 teams lost last week. Region A's Northumberland and West Point played strong teams and lost. Both dropped considerably in my power rankings as a result. Galax lost as well but only dropped one spot as they lost to a 3A.

I am still not totally confident in WC. I know many are high on them. I'm glad they are doing well. Let's see how they do this week against a stronger team.

I'll get so much $#&@ for this and it's your top 15. But I just can't see Hurley at 15 when they got thumped by Tazewell. Chilhowie is so so so much better than they've show in some games.

Yes, where to put Hurley was a tough one. Both Chilhowie and Hurley lost to 2A teams this past weekend, but you are correct in that Chilowie lost to a better 2A team than the Rebs. Chilhowie has had a tough schedule so maybe they should be above Hurley as far as power rankings go.

Of course, polls are just for fun but I do try to be as accurate as I can (if accuracy is possible in polls lol).

I went with Hurley because they have a better overall record and were the highest rated team in Region D. That should change though this week with PH winning but Hurley will still be rated over Chilhowie I think.

How does Castlewood look? Should they be in the discussion?

Colonial Beach was a final four team last year and in my opinion they are a better team this year. I think they will beat everyone in the tough NNK district maybe even Essex. Msex had come from behind to barely beat a Northampton team WP hung 68 points on the week before. WP only has 21 players left on Varsity squad after backup qb suffered a season ending injury, but I think we still handle Msex. Not sure why you feel the need to mislead everyone on the board with such a foolish post about CB "crushing" WP. Couldnt be further from the truth. Was 8-0 mid 4th qtr. If you think that is crushing somebody then you should also think WP is better than Msex and reflect it in your poll, but you obviosuly dont have the ability to remain unbiased while trying to be just that.

As for Middlesex, they are 3-2. They lost to a 5-0 team in OT and a 4-1 team after having a big 2nd half lead. I am no fan of Middlesex.

I think Middlesex may beat West Point, especially if their two top players are healthy. If West Point wins, great.

Yes Chilhowie is absolutely better than they've shown. They beat our *** everywhere but on the scoreboard and should've done that if they hadn't stalled. And no man this is in no way shape or form hate twords anyone. I'm simply stating that imo I don't see how Hurley is ranked and Chilhowie isnt. Yeah Hurley has a better record but against on what 2 VA schools. And there 1 loss is to an absolutely bad team. That's not a shot at Tazewell as I respect the hell out of those kids for coming out and putting in work with as little as they have this year. As I do Hurley but it makes no sense to have a team who has played much better competition and has much much much better losses. And to quell any talk of you trying to say "oh you just think George with the best team ever always" No I don't we are down by ALOT! This year and I mean ALOT. But we will still be around in mid to late Nov like always. And imo it doesn't matter who is team #2 in Salem this year RH will hang 60 on em and will make it look easy. And yes that includes MY MAROONS.

No doubt Chilhowie would beat a lot of teams ranked above them. Grundy who is unranked would beat most of those teams. Grundy has 2 loses, 2A Ridgeview and 2A Central, very close games. Them sorry Rebels will invade the Wave territory Friday Night, if healthy they will give them a good game and that will be the Championship Game for both teams in my opinion.

Last years score was 38-0.on mud field in Gretna. Let me tell you something William Campbell JV probably could beat most of Variety teams now. That why they sre 6-0. You dont have to pull gor Generals.but you wanted put them on schedule to play them. This team will catch the ball down field.they are bounce on both side of offense. There defense is getting better each week. Best part of deal they got mo injuries.

I was one of those that thought the field was deeper last year so let me explain my stance.

There are 3 teams that had to be considered from the west with PM having a great year along with Galax and GW. In the east there was Sussex, Essex, and Franklin having great seasons. That's 6 with RH being the 7th

. I think there are some repeat offenders so to speak with the Region A having 5 or so that can compete, Region B having RH and WC sitting pretty well there. Region C is still Galax, GW then the rest. And I am so unfamiliar with the Region D teams that I can't speak intelligently about who is the real contender there.

That's why I again repeat that there are several very solid programs that will be in the hunt and practicing after Thanksgiving. If the Red team is fortunate enough and have put in he work to be there then I like our chances but these are high school kids so you can never be sure who will show up.

I say good luck to all as there is still time to get the ship righted for some that aren't where they want to be and work to do for those that are already seeing success. As always #RollPride

RedPrideNation_RollPride I 100% see your point. But I will say outside of Galax the old West is DOWN! Narrows is looking great right now so they may cause problems. But those 2 at this point are the class of C. Yes I do believe GW can compete and beat everyone in C if the PLAY. If they come out flat like they have 4 out of the 5 games we are in DEEP trouble against Galax. I honestly think RH is the Appo of 1A this year. Yes 1A has a few legit teams but we all know there is that 1 team that's just waiting and that's RH.

At this point, Riverheads is in a class of their own in 1A. 3 quality wins over competitive 2A schools (who have 4 victories over 3A schools between them) , along with 2 other blowout victories over 1A schools (combined score of 108-7 in those 2 games) and no losses on the season. They have a history of success, particularly at this level and one of the best, if not the best, coaching staff in 1A.

They'll likely beat up on Wilson this week, then prepare for a tough 3 game stretch of games vs 3 undefeated 2A schools--all of which they can beat, before finishing up with Page Co.

I'm not saying another 1A school can't possibly beat Riverheads, I'm just saying I don't think anyone else has the resume to overthrow them in a 1A poll right now.

My whole point is while we are very fortunate to have the quality coaching staff and the pedigree of success, the team that is fielded currently in G-ville is not the powerhouse team from last year. While I would love to see a repeat performance all the way through the championship, there are several quality programs that have the pedigree and skill to compete and beat RH.

Red Pride i agree this team not near the power house of last year but I think this team is going to get a lot better as time goes and their tough schedule down stretch will help them I think they have three teams to play that could win 1a so even if they lose all 3 should get them ready for playoffs

I just stated in another thread that to me, this years team is not as good as last years from what I have seen in person. I really think last years team would roll them just like they did to pretty much everyone they faced, because they were that good, not because this years team is bad. Granted, I've only seen them at scrimmages and vs Buffalo Gap this year so I could be way off base, but last year's team was ridiculous.

This year's team is very, very good and has a great chance to repeat as champions. Can they be beaten in the 1A playoffs? Sure it's possible, but based on their resume through the first few weeks, they have to be sitting at the top of any 1A poll right now.

I agree with both assessments but polls are opinions and even the points system is not accurate in some cases. This team is getting better and true to most Casto teams, will be hitting their stride at playoff time. I am merely pointing out that the gap is narrow or none existent to the top 5 or so depending on your viewpoint.

Having said all that...All is not lost just yet...

If the State semis were to be played at Riverheads, then the odds of a Region A victory would be very slim indeed. Riverheads has outstanding fan base and home field advantage, plus East teams are well known for playing poorly on average out west.

However, as NND Sports Fan pointed out several weeks ago, Riverheads will have to play the State Semi game around early December somewhere in the Far East. Adding to the fact they (Riverheads) may be not as powerful as usual (but still #1 by far), this gives the Region A winner at least a 50/50 shot of winning.

I would say that all top 8 East teams (Sussex, Essex, W&L, CB, Northumberland, WP, Middlesex, and Rapp or Franklin) are mostly improved from last season. I am not sure if CB is better than last year (that would be amazing as small as they are).

As they say, and that's why they play the game....

I am fairly sure that the host site now rotates for the state semis regardless of points. If it were up to points, Riverheads would most likely host until Salem.

I'm sure NNDman or NND Sports Fan or riversportsfan or somebody knows for 100% sure.
