I believe a reasonable father could conclude that his son would make more money in the NFL if he went to Auburn instead of MSU. And I believe that father might tell his son, "It's a business decision. There needs to be more than a scholarship--there needs to be a supporting cast that can showcase your talent. It will make you money in the long run."
And that son might turn down his old coach because, if he went to Auburn, "the money was too much." If such a conversation took place, it was probably nothing but an attempt by a good-hearted young man to explain that this was a business decision, not a guy spurning his first college coach.
