We don't need a coach to make a long run here. If he leaves in 4 or 5 years, then most likely he's had a good deal of success. We've moved up into the next pay bracket with the rest of the SEC, so we can't afford to keep a coach around for 13-15 years if we're getting nothing out of him. Jackie was brought in at the right time at MSU because we were an absolute nobody with no money, zero facilities, and a tiny stadium with tiny attendance. He, along with the natural growth of the SEC, helped us improve that greatly. Then, on the back end of his career our comfortable AD didn't have the balls to fire him and held on for 3 years too long. Jackie was the right guy for the job at the time, but he's long gone now. We have to get over the notion that every hire we make for the head football coach has to be here for life. It's not going to happen.
