I don't see West Stanly but I would assume they'll still be in a Conference with pretty much the current teams in a split 5A/4A.

Some suggestions I think might work decent:

SW Onslow in 4A Conference 1

Red Springs and Fairmont in 3A Conference 2

Midway, Princeton, and Goldsboro all in 2A Conference 4

Union and possibly Lakewood in 3A Conference 4

I had a proposal on this website 20 years ago where you group schools into conferences based on geography (with size also a factor) ... thus no conference realignment is ever needed (unless new schools are added). To set the playoff brackets for any sport, you determine which schools qualify and then divide them up any way you want based on the current ADMs.

Conf. 2 (3A) was tried during the last realign... and RS/F/Stp said "NO", the Duplin Co. schools were too far.

It would be nice if we knew the playoff qualification process. There are a couple of unique situations where this info would be helpful. For example, Currituck County may have to be the only 5a team in a 3a/4a league. How will they qualify for the playoffs? How will this affect the other schools in their league and how will they qualify? This would be useful information for schools as they work through this process.

Move 4A Red Springs and Fairmont from 6A Conference 3 to 3A Confernce 4 for a 1A/2A/3A/4A league.

Isn't this really your fourth draft???

What the NCHSAA finally came up with is similar to what I wrote 20 years ago: Conferences based on geography with school size part of the equation.
But under my plan, there is no 5A, 4A, 3A ... whatever designation. Instead of Mid-State 2A/3A Conference, it's the Mid-State Conference.
At the end of a season, you pick out the qualifying teams and then divide them up for playoff brackets based on the current ADMs.
Formula: Pick out your 256 qualifiers based on conference finish (RPI tie-breaker), rank them by current ADM numbers and divide by 8 for your brackets.

Too simple and fair. It would never pass.
