After attending the baseball games Friday and Saturday, the Spring Game and the Sugarland concert afterwards, here is my opinion on what I saw.

First, let me start by saying it has been a while since I have been back to a baseball game so I was really amazed at how much it had changed.

The Friday night game was a great night for baseball, temps in the low 70's, perfect to watch a game. While the crowd was about what I expected for the game, the crowd support is almost completely dead. It was honestly embarrassing compared to what I remember it being. I sat in the chairbacks and the people sitting around me had no interest in following the game. This was a purely social outing for them and they spent all their time screaming at other people they new that were walking by and inviting them up to sit around us. That was no problem since there were so many empty seats. It was annoying as hell to be watching the game and have these guys sitting in front and behind us turning around in their seats and screaming past us about what their mama and sister say and who said this to aunt Sally. But, I am pretty sure we were using their tickets so there was nothing we could do about it.

Couple of things:

I feel like we have cheapened the game. What I mean is, all of the walk up music, the sound clips after a foul ball or an out, the freaking rap music in between innings, it is all ******** that somehow does not seem genuine in any way and does not seem to fit in at the game. Yes, I realize the walk up crap and all that is how a lot of pro games are now and is the new thing to do but it just does not fit.

Crowd Support is at an all time low. The lack of any excitement in the stands was amazing to me. Why the hell, we feel it is required to play some type of freaking rap music between innings is beyond me. It doesn't fit with the fans that are attending the game or the players playing the game. It was just annoying and seemed way out of place but we HAVE TO find something to get the fans back in the game.

Saturdays Baseball Game:

WE HAVE TO GET A TICKET EXCHANGE IN PLACE YESTERDAY!!!!! I cannot stress this enough, the bleachers on both the 1st and 3rd base sides were full while the Chairbacks sat 1/2 empty. We were lucky enough to sit in the chairbacks but there were a ton of empty seats. 7 on my row alone.

One small thing, the analog clock on top of our scoreboard was never changed after the time change. This is not a big deal but if you were trying to keep up with the time to get to the football game, the time is wrong by 1 hour. This would seem to be something simple to fix and I am amazed it has take this long since the time changed to actual correct the time.

Our baseball team played great although some of the loudest cheering from the crowd was screams of "swing at the damn ball, it is impossible to hit it if you don't swing" and my favorite was all the complaining when we would bunt the ball. I feel a lot of our fans pain, we do not play an exciting brand of baseball, not even close. We try to play small ball and while a win is a win, fans like hard hit balls and we bunt the ball every opportunity we get.

We left the game in the 12th to head to the football game, but all around the baseball games were fun and our kids had a blast.

The Spring Game:
We walked in and the baseball game was still in extra inning which was great because they had the game and Jim Ellis on the HD screen and it was neat to watch it waiting for the game to start. The spring game was the spring game. I don't give a damn if they had a 60 yard field or a 200 yard field, it was still a spring game. After the first few possessions it is boring.

I could not tell you how the 3rd quarter went because I stood in the line to get a coke and some popcorn for my kids for 45 minutes. If Scott Stricklin had been standing in front of me, I would have taken his loafers off and beat him with them. To open 1 concession stand on the West side was just plain dumbass ****. The fans were furious and the people working the concession stand were apologizing saying "we are sorry we were not expecting this kind of crowd." I find this absurd, scott has been tweeting out that we had 15000 tickets sold and they expected a good many walk up ticket purchases. This was a big mistake on his part and he should catch some hell for this. I honestly missed an entire quarter for a coke and popcorn.

Sugarland:
You guys can argue right or wrong and how bad it was but I give him credit for trying something new and out of the box. Was it a band I was dying to see, no. But, my wife and kids loved it and it was really an enjoyable night at DWS, even if you were not a Sugarland fan. Fans were packed in around us and really seemed to enjoy it, young and old. It was a pretty neat experience and something new that had not been tried.

I did not understand a couple of things. 1st, why set the stage up on the North end? If the stage was set up on the South end they could have used the HD Screen and shown the concert on it. Most concerts now have video boards so there is not a bad seat in the house. We did not use the video board at all for the concert last night (This may have been sugarlands call and not ours) but even if we had, you would have had to look at the opposite end of the field to watch the board.

Before anyone goes crazy, yes I realize our locker rooms are on the South end and that is probably why the stage was set up on the N but still, it would have made the concert a little better. We did not buy floor tickets and since there was no video, I am pretty sure that was sugarland that played but hell, it could have been look-a-likes.

2nd, why the stage was set up the way it was. On the West side, if you had tickets in Section E or F, you could hardly see the stage. They could have easily not sold tickets in those sections and sold more tickets at on the South end of the E and W side. The way the stage was set up there were white tents on each side of the stage that blocked the view of 80% of the stage. This was not a big deal because it was easy enough to move to another seat and get a view but why sell tickets that offer you little to no view of the concert? That did not make much sense but I am going to assume they learned a lot about what not to do if they choose to do a concert again.
Overall we had a great time and a great experience. On the way home my kids were asking when we could go back and to me that is what it is all about.

Nobody had tickets to sections E, F, or anywhere else. There was field level, stadium level, and club level.

and this is from someone who goes to every home game. <div>
</div><div>I'm sure it wasn't as good as 1990, but it won't be until we start playing at that level again. The fact that we had 3K, 6K and 9K (actual, not paid - looking at you, rebels) shows me that the potential is very well there still. Next year when we host a regional we'll break the record for that, easily.</div>

Personally I don't like the walk-up music but I guess we have to accept that its part of the game now. Just seems to me that as you're approaching the plate you should be concentrating on doing one of the hardest things in sports (hitting a 90+ mph fastball while watching out for an 83mph slider) instead of getting your groove on to 'your music'. What bothers me most are all of the little sound snipits after every out. Do we really need a half-second sound clip after every out? As Weblow said, it doesnt fit the game and sounds rushed and cheap.

and turned the stage 1/4 towards the stands..........As it stood, folks in section E had a very hard time seeing the stage and even those that could it was very far away......Other than that, I thought Sugarland was pretty good.....

There were 10,000 people there. Nice try.
10,000? That's all? And during the Grooove Bowl weekend? Y'all can't do any better than that with a "good" baseball team against a top 20 club? MSU's baseball team is pretty much a suckfest and they still brought in nearly as many fans (and that was actual, not paid). MSU fans had to pay $25 to watch the scrimmage and still had nearly as many fans as the Grooove Bowl, too.

Damn, y'alls fans suck.....hard and extremely fast.

I had 4 tickets in E and the section was close to sold out so whoever told you that does not know what they are talking about. The 4 tickets I had in Section E had an assigned row and seat number, just like everyone else sitting around me. You are off on this one. I still have the tickets sitting pinned to my sons bulletin board in his room.

the tickets I ordered for my wife plainly said "Section D, Row 57, Seat 55" & "Section D, Row 57, Seat 56". Go figure.

it almost hampers any type of excitement going on. It is almost tough to get anything going as far as cheering or clapping.

Try this scenario, we are pitching to a guy and the count goes 3-2, the entire stadium used to know, without having to be told that it was time for everyone to start screaming "BALL 4." The entire stadium would do it and it could easily be heard on the radio and was damn loud in the stadium. Now, when the count goes 3-2, LFL starts with the ball 4 like it always has (Lounge Lizards) and maybe 20 people in chairbacks join in. This is when some genius with a soundboard decides it is time to play some crazy, out of place sound. This is when the soundboard guy decides to play, 4 times louder than the crowd, a squirrel fart, or some other out of place sound. It damn near completely silences the crowd.

Another example would be when the they walk to the plate and the crowd starts a rhythmic applause, it is going well until there is some absurd snippet of a song, that has nothing to do with the situation or batter and the applause is cut by 90%. You are left with 10 people clapping and a dead stadium.

The walk up music is ******** but if we are going to do it we need to do it right. The way we do it now sounds like a kid made a mixed tape on his hifi stereo in his playroom. The sounds all the sudden blare out and start playing then they drop out and the announcer announces the name of the batter, then there is silence for a few seconds before their walkup song starts back up. It just sounds ******. Even if it was decent music it sounds ****** and does nothing for the atmosphere.

On a side note, not trying to sound the least bit racist here but when you are 160 pound white guy, you have no business walking up to the plate to a rap song that makes it sound like you want to by out gangbanging with your buds. At the end of the day you look like 160 white guy and you look like a dipshit.

Another example was when the TN coach charged out to talk with the 2nd Base ump after a close call at second, this used to be when fans started screaming at him and boooing him. You used to also be able to hear a coach get excited and start yelling. This happened and we picked it as a great time to use the Jumbotron and play a clip about a damn talking dog. Now I am trying to listen to the coach, the coach gets a warning then the dugout gets a warning but I cannot hear any of the **** because Benjy is out there talking on TV in the outfield.

Don't mean to ***** so much be we are actually hurting the atmosphere with this crap as opposed to helping. We are, on purpose at this point taking the crowd completely out of the baseball game time and time again each game and something should be done about it.

Ditch the movie clips.

I do like the Great Moments in Diamond Dog history on the Jumbotron. But crowd involvement should be encouraged not countered with meaningless entertainment.

As Frank Deford says, "Baseball is a pastime, not an event. It will never be like a football or basketball game because there is no clock." So there will always be talk of Aunt Sally's hernia operation among the fans. But when a3-2 count arises the PA should usher the crowd into involvement, not into a recollection of seeing "Animal House" in 1977.

..I was watching LSU vs. UK on TV this weekend.

UK has taken this ******** to new heights.

Because adding insult to injury, UK has a ball park organ.

So everytime a batter stepped out of the batter's box, you either get a blast of 50 Cent or some old lady grinding out the Jeopardy! theme music on the organ.

This is a league trend that needs to be 86'ed. The SEC office should demand baseball be respected & order an immediate halt to this nonsense. Transforming college baseball into a 9 inning clown car accident is an ignorant move that cheapens the game & disrespects the players.

If you think lulls in a baseball game should be spiced up with indecipherable rap music, Sugarland or some dofus playing Chop Sticks on the organ, then you know nothing of baseball tradition & should stay the hell home.

But if your aim is to point out how on this particular weekend your fans came out and did a great job supporting your team despite the fact that it has been consistently ****** for the past four years, then I guess I concede your point.

The guy in charge of the sound system is less that worthless. I know it's cool to have a new sound system to play with and all that but it completely takes the crowd out of the ballgame and ruins the atmosphere. This is a Baseball game, for cryin' out loud. Let's have some Baseball-appropriate music but sparingly and only at appropriate times. The sound guy needs to be taken out behind the batting cages and beat to within an inch of his life. I've been going to Baseball games at Dudy Noble for about 20-25 years and the atmosphere with the new sound system is horrible. Please, Mr. Sound Guy, be quiet, get out of the way and let the crowd back into the game! You are killing the spirit of MSU Baseball single-handedly.

I first started going to games in 1997, and they may not have done it back then. However, they were definitely doing by 1999 or 2000.

Why do we need to see random clips from 'Family Guy' and 'Anchorman'? What does that have to do with anything? Just because the sound guy and his friend think they are funny doesn't mean we need to watch it during a mound visit.

Before, everyone complained about them playing the same old stuff year in and year out, like "Boot Scootin' Boogie". Why is it so difficult for us to do something correctly? I know you can't please everyone, but sometimes less is more.

What is your deal with callin out the Rebels on their attendance? Face it, theirs is just flat out better than MSU's. Has been for years now, and their stadium actually looks like a real park, unlike our empty metal bleachers and 25% filled grandstand.

The experience at MSU sporting events is way overproduced. There is not a timeout or lull in the action that is not filled by some video, commercial or some gimmick. The band stays silent during timeouts in basketball while the PA guy reels off a minute of advertisements. Then the stupid five seconds of blaring rap music right before play begins. Every break in the football action is filled with commercials on the jumbotron. So weird to me that a whole freaking crowd will stare at the video board during TOs like zombies. That kills crowd momentum and energy.

The athletic dept is trying way way too hard in my opinion. It really takes away from the experience.

we don't miss an opportunity to fire it up and I thought it was odd when it went dark. Especially since there were 2 cameras filming the concert directly in front of the stage.
