I think in the end this came down to two big things:

1) His family's relationship with Coach Price. Fathers want to send their sons toa place their comfortable and to coaches they like and Carlos Sr. is obviously very fond of Coach Price from their pricing dealings with Quentin. All the quotes about back to back Cotton Bowls, etc make for nice quotes, but even if our records has been reversed I think he signs with OM.Had Price left for TT with Tubby I think he would have signed with State. Turner leaving late and us not getting a replacement until so late hurt some, but I don't think it made a difference at the end.

2) OM sold him on earlier playing time. I have no idea about OM's depth chart but do know they brought in Dorsey so that's one guy he'd be behind for two years. I do know about MSU's though and while I don't think he plays as a freshman for either team I know we are DIRE need of speed rushers, which this guy supposedly is. None of our DE's other than McPhee showed the ability to get to the QB last year. Yeah we have a ton of young DE's and most of them seem serviceable enough but I don't see a lot of future All-SEC talent there. The only guy that qualifies as possible rush end would be McCardell and who knows if he's a project that will ever pan out. So OM either sold him better than we did on the depth chart or #2 simply didn't matter as much as reason #1.

I don't hate the guy and don't feel he necessarily made a bad decision for himself although I would have loved to have him at State. Guess we'll know in 3 years if he was worth all the fuss or not.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. I also think Ole Miss having the last official visit hurt us.

I don't know if there's anything to this, but it seems like whoever has the last official visit usually gets the recruit. Maybe I'm wrong, but it sure seems that way a lot of the time.

His mother, rightly or wrongly (and this can be argued ad nauseum), believes he can potentially get a better education at OM (she see's Med School, Pharm school, Law School, PDK, etc etc).

I think that is somewhat shortsighted, but that's just my opinion.

Also, the Madison duo and Carlos have become good enough friends to text a good bit.

Those plus the previously mentioned perceived chance at early playing time and the comfort level with Terry Price and you have some of the major reasons he chose OM.

...that you follow a bunch of 17 and 18 year olds close enough to know that they text each other on a regular basis? A little creepy if you ask me

It doesn't take a genious to figure out that Ole Miss is going to struggle mightily next year, especially on offense, and probaby the year after too. They are about to become a one dimensional offense with a bunch of overhyped RBs and no QB to throw to the Noxubee County duo. So what championships do the Thompsons (Carlos and Dad)think they are going to play for in the future? I mean seriously. Get with the 17n program and learn how to do some basic research. If you wanna play for championships go to Bama, Florida, Texas, but to spout that **** about Ole Miss just makes you and your dad look like 17n idiots. Now if you said you would like to play for Indy Bowl berths, then that would be understandable.</p>

in before the lock.

Just sayin, if I had a handle on what 17 year olds really were motivated by, I would be on late night television with an infomercial.

But not on Comcast, cause Dawgstudent hates their ***.

I doubt Lion O thinks twice about stalking recruits. After all, they are the same age as he is.

I know early rumors was that it was going to take a bit of work (read: lots of online classes) for him to make the grades. Haven't heard anything on that in a while though.
