I think in the end this came down to two big things:
1) His family's relationship with Coach Price. Fathers want to send their sons toa place their comfortable and to coaches they like and Carlos Sr. is obviously very fond of Coach Price from their pricing dealings with Quentin. All the quotes about back to back Cotton Bowls, etc make for nice quotes, but even if our records has been reversed I think he signs with OM.Had Price left for TT with Tubby I think he would have signed with State. Turner leaving late and us not getting a replacement until so late hurt some, but I don't think it made a difference at the end.
2) OM sold him on earlier playing time. I have no idea about OM's depth chart but do know they brought in Dorsey so that's one guy he'd be behind for two years. I do know about MSU's though and while I don't think he plays as a freshman for either team I know we are DIRE need of speed rushers, which this guy supposedly is. None of our DE's other than McPhee showed the ability to get to the QB last year. Yeah we have a ton of young DE's and most of them seem serviceable enough but I don't see a lot of future All-SEC talent there. The only guy that qualifies as possible rush end would be McCardell and who knows if he's a project that will ever pan out. So OM either sold him better than we did on the depth chart or #2 simply didn't matter as much as reason #1.
I don't hate the guy and don't feel he necessarily made a bad decision for himself although I would have loved to have him at State. Guess we'll know in 3 years if he was worth all the fuss or not.
