My theory on this- you can't blame Stricklin

Stricklin is wanting the deal done. Mullen has to do his part as well.

If I'm the head coach, and all these rumors are starting to hurt my recruiting, then I come out to the media and become adament about staying- if that is my intention.

But my belief is that Mullen is very much a stand-up guy, and he isnt going to BS like a Tubby or a Saban. And he hasn't come out yet and said he's staying because he is listening to what Miami has to say and offer. And he is at home thinking about it and talking it over with Megan. He may very well be sick, but his agent isnt.

the frenzy this sort of discussion might cause, but does Dan even have an agent? I remember seeing a comment earlier this week that he didn't.

He's going to have a hard time passing it up, IMO, if offered. But Miss State is a lot better job than it used to be, mainly because the SEC is such a HUGE deal now. State people do need to realize( an dI don't think our fanbase fully gets it yet) that the State job is one of the best in the country. We could pay in the top 15 or so in the coutnry. We are in teh best conference. You hae ample recruiting in MS. We have good facilites compared to most schools in teh country. Granted we have som ework to do there in comparision to the other SEC schools, but if you compare to everyone we are more than competitive.

So, State fans I hope are beginnig to relize this.

If he leaves, we'll get another good coach.

I am not there, yet. I think this is helping our recruiting nationally, right now... Dan Mullens' name is in every living room with a kid pondering where to go, in america right now. (this is neither good or bad for MSU, yet)

if he stays and says Starkville, MS is where I can win a championship faster ... recruiting goes haywire
if he leaves then we have issue in recruiting.

Making the big money guys that will give the cash an incentive to do it sooner rather than later. That isn't even taking into consideration the leverage he has in discussing his contract extention and raises for his assistants.

You're probably referring to my comment from earlier this week where I said I remember Byrne sayinghe preferred to negotionate with coaches instead of agents (well no ****,Greg) and one of the things he liked about Dan was no agent. Now, I'm sure that has changed in his almost two years ofbeing aHC.

Marcello said in one of his blogs that there was no response from Dan's Agent. I don't know who he is, but you could probably find out from Marcello.

The one thing Dan hasn't come close to doing at MSU is recruiting and signing an upper tier QB. Even if you consider Russell one he was recruited and committed by Croom. Now, partly due to all of this, Dak appears to be waivering on us and is visiting LSU. If we lose him I have no clue what QB we would even sign this year. Appears we have all our QB eggs in his basket.

At some point Mullen is going to have to **** or get off the pot. I am assuming a recruit would want feelconfident that the coach they signed with will be the same coach when they graduate. Its going to catch up with Mullen at somepoint and a good player will sign with another school because he doesn't want to change coaches his sophmore year. Now at UF or LSU it could be a different story cause you know they are going to hire a national championship coach to replace the national championship coach.

so far we have one recruit who has said he is concerned. Balance that against Dan's name being mentioned in newspapers and on ESPN over and over again, I don't see this as a bad thing. He may listen to Miami, he'd be an idiot not to, but I still don't think he goes there unless the money is just outrageous. I think Dan and Megan truly love Starkville and Mississippi State but as I've always said things may look different with a big bag of money on the table.

If this all plays out and then Dan stays think about what that says to recruits and the nation. It's one of the hottest young coaches saying that coaching Mississippi State is better than coaching the Miami Hurricanes. That's some pretty good press right there.

There just aren't that many of them. Even at the best jobs you've seen Urban quit and come back and Saban isn't know for hanging around one place forever either. The LSU fans mostly hate Miles. Carroll left USC. Mack Brown I think has publicly stated he's looking at about 5 more years.

Every other lower school that does well (Boise, TCU, Utah, us this year) constantly will have their coaches names mentioned when bigger jobs come open. That's just the way it is these days.
