The NIT sucks. The ONLY time it is acceptable is when you have a young team that is rebuilding, which is the only time a losing season in football works.
Again, NIT is complete and utter failure for a team that returns 5 starters and went to the NCAA's last year.

We've been .500 or better in conference play 8 of the last 9 years.
You go .500 or better in ANY of the top 4 to 6 conferences in college football, then you're in a bowl.
Stans is 85-59 in SEC regular season play the last 9 years, a 60% winning percentage, which is similar to AVERAGING a 5-3 conference record in football. A 5-3 record in the Big East, Big 10, Pac 10, or any major conference gets you a bowl each year.
Are we declining? Yes, but we're not having sub .500 seasons in league play or worse like Sherrill and Polk had MULTIPLE times before being shown the door.
We've got a shot to be good next year w/ Sidney and Smith,and it'd be foolish to fire him this year when he might be lining up our best class possibly ever in 2011.

So maybe your perception means that the NIT = no bowl, but in actuality, everyone w/ a winning conference record in football makes a bowl game.

Making the NCAAT is 10 times harder than making a bowl game. You can make a bowl game by winning 25% of your conference games. Let that sink in - 25%. Winning 25% of your conference games in basketball will certainly get you fired.

We are poorlittle Mississippi State there is no way we can compete with the real teamsin the NCAA tourney, let's just be happy with our 20 win season, another SEC West Title and a NIT bid. I bet you bought that SEC West Champs T-shirt...whatever said:
I am sure that the starting five that walked out on the floor of the Hump made the decision to spot Tenn 19 points then make a trilling come back just to screw you 17ers. I am no Stans cheerleader but he is playing with a short deck. Who do you people want him to play? Bad knees, ankles, and language problems have produced the season we all wanted . It is just like football and baseball you people give up to easy and this board is the biggest whine and cheese party going.
Again, I neversaid I was happy or satisfied w/ the year. I think everyone on here wants and hopes for better,AND thinks we can get there in basketball (while they're skeptical that we could ever be a top25 team consistently in football)fishwater99 said:

I didn'tsay the SEC in football necessarily, but isn't going10-6 in the SEC in basketball just as hard or harder than going 5-3 in the Big East, Pac 10, or Big 10 in football?
The point also still stands that if you have a winning conference record inANY conference then you are in a bowl.
Hell, 3 Big East teams went to bowls this year with SUB .500 conference records, and one of them beat the **** out of South Carolina in their bowl game. So yeah, I'd say going 10-6 is at least equalif not better than going 4-4 in the SEC in football
