My thoughts on last nights game....

First off, HUGE improvement from last week. The Offense seemed to flow and the defense played with more heart. It was nice to see what Elliot had. He is a different style runner than what we are accustomed to. We need a strong and experienced front to give him the chance to make an impact. He is certainly no AD. BUT, he has speed. If he has the hole...the guy will be gone.

Now, enough of my positives....

1) This was a 2 A school. Why in the 17 didnt we win more like 50-3. Croom has still not scored 40+ points since he has been here. Why?
2) Why in the hell would we shut down the offense in third quarter? Croom is on thin ice after last week with the fanbase. He is totally out of touch. I don't know about you guys...but I
I wanted a blow out. When was the last time we had a blowout? Six, Seven years ago? The CL called the 34-10 win a rout. No my friend, in my mind a rout is more like 50-3...
3) Why in the hell is McCorvey showing these "trick" plays on a team like SELA and LA Tech? Way to go dumbass...Auburn will be studying the tapes on that one all week...
4) McAdams is a worthless piece of ****...Oh, and so are our special teams. At least Pegues is returning. Didn't we have pretty decent SP Teams last year? I thought so...
5) We haven't played ANYONE. Sure, a win was refreshing after the LA Tech game. With that said, we should be 2-0. Instead we are 1-1 and have a game against a tough Auburn D.
Ears will be out for revenge next week and there is no room for error. The only way we are going to win that ballgame will be ZERO turnovers and VERY efficient Offensive Production.

I was guilty of being caught up in the moment of our successes last night. But a good friend brought me back down to reality after texting back and forth during the game. The bottom line, I am not sold on this team or the coaches and neither should any of you. If we win next week, I will be pleased. But it needs to be an EARNED win to mean anything.

putting in the 3rd string and being conservative with the calls probably is the smart thing to do. But, it isn't what I wanted. And apparently it isn't what you and a bunch of other people wanted. We needed to hang 40+ on this team to call it a blow out. We didn't. And I know waht a damn ingrate I sound like when I am bitching about winning by 24.

It looked we were doing real well running around the end -- presumably we knew to exploit thier lack of speed. But, running up the middle looked tough to me. Why is that? With a 240 lb TB and our line, why would running up the middle against SELA be such a problem.

McAdams can't help sucking, no more than I can help being brilliant. But, it's the damn coaches that keeping putting all of us, McAdams included, through the torture him playing that boggle my mind.

WTF do you think I mean? Do you watch football? Jesus Christ.

Not a win based on turnovers like last year. We were LUCKY to beat Auburn last year!

I want an earned win. A win because our offense is self productive and our defense stops their offense. Not because they can't hold on to the 17ing ball.

We need EARNED wins, not luck... That is what shows improvement in a true competitor. Not because of someone's mishaps.

...we called off the dogs, and rightly so. Another 20 points and 100 yards is meaningless, except to those who like to throw up our offensive rankings to people. Who cares? It wouldn't have been anything positive, except to risk ridiculous injury. We need all our horses if we are going to have a chance. Confidence was established last night because anybody that watched the game knows we dominated it.

like 50-3... I would say 02 against Jacksonville State. I think it was 51-13. Ugliest blowout I've ever seen. I remeber JWS going for two several times inexplicably.

I thought so... And you would think that we would be able to attract a good punter as much as we have to do it. Good exposure.

SELA was running out of gas in the 3rd. Taking the first team off was a good thing to do just because we cant afford any other injuries. Just run the clock out and go to the next game.

Blake McShank punted better this week (3 for 43).

I would trade kickers and punters with SELA. That guy was booming punts.

i'm pretty sure you're the only person here that doesn't agree with the proposition that state fans want to see state win games this year with a balanced and creative offense. at least that's what everyone keeps saying they want. to your point, a win's a win, but it would be nice for your fans to go into a game with the confidence that the team doesn't need to force five turnovers to win.

I'm not questioning the 2nd and 3rd stringers coming in. I am quesitoning the play calls. They could have scored points themselves. McCorvey SHUT IT DOWN. They need the practice too...

because "they" don't have confidence in the second and third offense not <17>ing up in front of the home crowd. I'm perfectly fine with it. Get the guys some snaps, don't be disrespectful of the team you whored out to come play you at home, and take a good win without changing momentum by throwing an interception.

This place is just cry-baby central.

1 and 2) A blowout would have been fun to watch, but pointless all the same. Anyone that watched the game last night knows that we could have hung 50 on them if Croom wanted to. However, that extra 15-20 points would mean jack squat if Carroll, Dixon, or any of our linemen got hurt. We're only two games into the season and already have some key guys hurt. We can't afford anymore.

3) That trick play was really not much more than a slightly modified flea flicker. I agree that there wasn't a need to pull it out, but every playbook in America has something similar and most defenses are coached well enough to never bite on that. I guess the point is that I don't think an SEC school is going to get tricked whether we showed that last night or not. I really can't remember the last time that I've seen a defense get fooled like SELA did on that play. Unfortunately for us, Wesley lost his grip and missed a wide open receiver. Even if he hadn't, why do I have this funny feeling that our receiver would have dropped it anyway?

4) Couldn't agree more. I thought that Amos Jones' last season was our worst year ever for special teams, but this one is looking like it will easily top it. Our return game is pathetic on both sides, I don't feel comfortable with Carlson kicking a PAT, and McAdams is flat out horrible. His punting average has never been the problem. The problem is that his 40-yd "boots" are line drive turf burners that get to the return man before our guys are within 20 yards of him. There is no excuse for our special teams to be this bad.

5) We should be 2-0 and I'm expecting a butt-kicking next weekend. I'm really not calling the team or the coaches out in any way, but I have been unimpressed so far.

You must be a GP junkie. This site is for true MSU bulldawgs who can accept criticism of our piss poor Football Program. Your first sentence is ridiculous on our coaches' part. If they don't have the "confidence" for our 2nd string to hang some points on a 17ing DOUBLE A TEAM, then that should show you why we ***** so much about our program. 5 17ing years and you dont even have the confidence on your second string? 17ed up man...

...........game doesn't deserve this much attention. We don't know if MSU is any good or not, and we won't know until they play the next couple or three games. Next!

I care about the margin of victory. We better damn well have dominated it. It was a D-II team. I think we should have dropped 50 on their ***. Would you be bitching if we had only won by 10 points? Yes.

Another 20 points and 100 yards would have been a lot more impressive than our effort last night and that's undeniable.

I think we won by an acceptible margin and I really don't think it would have made any diffrence if we had dropped 20 more points because, as will be all year, we lost to La Tech.

Yeah, besides everything else mentioned in this thread, I noticed that also. How many times did Dixon tip-toe up to the LOS waiting for a hole? Did we ever push their DL back off the LOS? I am afraid we will have a very difficult time running the ball the rest of the year. One more thing, Dixon comes in on short yardage situations. I think Ducree should be the short yardage back. He hits the hole (or the area in which there should be a hole) much faster and harder.

McAdams......hate to pile on the guy....but damn. I saw him hit a 29 yard punt in warm up (from the point in which he kicked it) just before the 2nd half KO. So, that would have been a 14-17 yard punt.
