Prove me wrong but we just aren't very good right now. The first three offensive series were a joke and we look like a high school team in our passing game, it's atrocious. We have got to get back to basics and run the damn ball and the passing will fall into place. On defense it's time to get aggressive and let players make plays. Coaches need to take a hard look at themselves.

well, that's dumb

We were never going to have some super, high-octane offense this season. But we will have a solid offense that scores enough points
We are playing alot of players to build depth
We are not showing our entire packages in order to keep Tennessee from getting film on it

The staff is not worried about style points. They are trying to play alot of players and get better.

We are still a 10-win team that will get beat on by LSU and Bama

The type schedule we`re playing has to make it difficult on the coaches to keep our guys focused. We`re still a bit of a mystery team for sure.

Technically we will only have 9 and 1/2 wins. The Bucky Bears won't give us any credit for beating them because Wallace will be out for the season well before then and we'll hold Brunetti to 12 yards passing with 4 interceptions.

nahhhh- partied a little too much Saturday at the tailgate and only watched the 1st half. Our lack of commitment to the running game was killing my buzz

I kind of thought that this was the strategy our coaches might be using, but then I thought it might be my biased way of rationalizing how lethargic we look. I'm not sure I buy the "keeping the playbook from Tennessee". If we really are purposefully not opening up the playbook, what makes us think we can run these plays if we have never executed them in a game?

I just really hope we get some swagger back against UK..hopefully the bye week helps us get our hunger back.

then what would make a team think they can run anything in the first game of the season correctly?

The guys are getting plenty of practice reps on those plays and/or sets that are being held back.

JSU:
Net Rushing Yards: 202
Rushing attempts: 38
Net Passing Yards: 193
Pass Attempts: 28
Difference? 9 more yards rushing, 10 more rush attempts

Auburn
Net Rushing Yards: 166
Rushing Attempts: 36
Net Passing Yards: 222
Pass Attempts: 29
Difference? 56 more yards passing, 7 more rush attempts

Troy:
Net Rushing Yards: 213
Rushing Attempts: 40
Net Passing Yards: 244
Pass Attempts: 47
Difference? 31 more passing yards, 7 more pass attempts

USA:
Net Rushing Yards: 156
Rush Attempts: 37
Net Passing Yards: 200
Pass Attempts: 29
Difference? 44 more passing yards, 8 more rushing plays

I'm looking at the numbers... and the only game I see where there was more than 50 yards difference between rushing and passing is Auburn... who most people agree was our best outing of the year so far. The only game where we passed more than ran was Troy... and we have 18 more rushing plays than passing plays on the year so far. Where is this "we need to run the damn ball more" coming from? By the numbers, we are running a fairly balanced offense, and actually, more of a "run first" offense.

Now on your defense comments... your a dumbass. Our defense needs to get more aggressive and let players make plays??? Let's look at some rankings:

Guess who leads the WHOLE DAMN NATION in turnover margin? Us.

http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1059

If that's not enough, guess who leads the WHOLE DAMN NATION in turnovers gained?
Us.

http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/1059

And just for the icing on the cake, we are tied for 6th in giving up turnovers... with 2.

Some people need to get out of the last decade...

Good point. Like I said though - the biggest key IMO is getting the hunger/chip on our shoulder back..I realize that's tough to do for ****** back to back opponents but we need it back if we really want to start 7-0.

I totally agree with you on that. But it has been obvious we havent coached nor played with the same intensity anything close to what we did at Fla

good post except we need to be around 55% run and 45% pass to be the best offense we can be I think.

Being exactly balanced is crap- you just have to be able to make throws to keep the D off-balance and stay unpredictable

I'm not agreeing with the op, but you fail to consider that we had big leads in the fourth quarter of the games with more rushing attempts, so it's only natural we'd end up running the ball more than throwing it.

Guys we are 4-0. 4-0 dude! For the first time in forever. I honestly don't think we are showing all we have on offense or D. I've only seen us play man-to-man just a few times. The only thing that bothers me is that we're not getting more pressure on the QB when it's not a quick read or a 2-3 step pass. I know some of it is by design for Wilson. But i expected more TFLs so far. But i expect us to look leaps and bounds better for the UT game. For one by design and two the intesity will be up for it. Heard a guy screaming in the stands Saturday "why the hell are they that wide open?! If we play like this Wallace'll tear us up!" I turned around and said "hey dumbass, we're in a base zone defense it is supposed to look like that. Plus I'll be shocked if he isn't hurt by the time we play the bears." Gotta love the these people.

The key in your post is "we had big leads in the fourth quarter". That's all that matters to me in these games.

If I was Kentucky or any other team for that matter playing us, I would throw

across the middle every single play. We cannot cover the middle of the field to save our life. Even JSU was hitting the passes against us; the only reason they didn't score more was due to their recievers dropping the ball. If we play like we did in the 1st quarter against UK, they will get their lone SEC win against us. Also, I wish someone would steal Orgeron's supply of Red Bull and dump it into the water jugs for the team. They look like they just crawled out of bed Saturday night.

Well Tennessee sure has plenty of film to show them that our zone coverage totally sucks. If Bray sees us in zone his eyes will be as big as donuts.

I maybe wrong but I would guess that most of the run plays are coming at the end of the game when we are running out the clock and when game is still in question we throwing more than some people would like. As more being more aggressive defense I would like to see play more man and less zone. We don't look very good in a cover 2 zone. I'm not sure why but our defensive line has not looked as good as I had hoped.

Run some numbers and prove me wrong. I'm just going off what the numbers are. Offensively, we aren't that stellar, but defensively, it's very hard to look down on what we have right now.

4th Quarter numbers- 46 runs 11 passes this season

JSU- 11 runs 0 passes
Auburn- 11 runs 2 passes
Troy- 14 runs 7 passes
USA- 10 runs 2 passes

These numbers show we are not establishing the run enough earlier in games- the run numbers are vastly skewed by running clock in the 4th quarter

It's hard not to agree with your assessment. But I think the bigger issue is our

playing "down" to our competition to a great degree. Mullen said going in at the half that our play (or lack thereof) was on the coaches and play-calling. I have to agree although we busted several blocking assignments. One play I remember is when a guard pulled and did not turn up-field and both he and the lead back hit the same guy. The SA linebacker (who the guard should have blocked) made the tackle along the line of scrimmage. Perkins would had an open highway to the endzone.

That is lack of focus on the player. It was a 3rd down play and the OL coach lit him up coming off the field. In watching the OL meet with the coach on the sideline during the game the players just seemed to say "17 it". That is partly on the coach but moreso on the players. They are still feeling 10ft tall after the Auburn win and most don't seem to think that Troy and SA were that big of a deal.

They would be right, except to gain respect and move up to another playing level you have to discipline yourself to treat all of them the same. Of course some games or bigger than others but to play like the Alabama's of this league you have to get past playing up and down. It will still happen at times but should never be 2 games in a row.

We have lots of potential if we get to that point. THAT is on the coaches to put players on the field that understand that.
