Thoughts? Is Oregon State loaded with Right handed bats or something?

Obviously, it helps immensely to win the first game in a 4 team tournament like this, however, you're going to have to beat Oregon State along the way, and Meyers obviously has the best chance to do that. If you're playing to advance, I think you have to take your chances with a number 2 or 3 to knock off Yale and hold back your ace for Oregon State. I don't know the particulars of injuries, righty/lefty matchups, etc., but I would have held him, personally.

You have to win game 1 to stay in the winner's bracket.

Playing for tomorrow in a tournament environment can be dangerous.

if you don't beat Yale in game 1 what difference does it make if you saved Meyers?

From what I understand, it really has more to do with being concerned that he may not be good to pitch tomorrow after playing outfield today. We don't want to be stuck with the same situation we were in the B1G tournament where he doesn't even get to pitch because of back tightness.

Yup. After asking around I have heard the same.

This makes more sense. I understand the "can't play for tomorrow" but you have to beat Oregon State and he would appear to be the best shot at doing that. If you aren't going to beat Yale with someone other than your ace, you're not going to advance to a super regional anyway. This feels more like a matter of "have to" rather than strategic decision.

Considering Michigan is losing and has given up 8 runs and Maryland is losing and has given up 7, probably a good thing to go with the ace.

How can Yale look more intense than Nebraska? I thought NU was the most intense team in the USA

We may not have to worry about how to beat Oregon St. We may not face them unless we start stringing some hits together.

Not encouraging that were down 4-1 in the 6th and our best pitcher just exited, stage right.

Is it just me or does this announcer make it sound like if Yale wins, it will be the greatest upset in the history of college baseball?(dramatized & exaggerated for message board post)

What wins baseball games?

"Pitching, defense and 3 run homers!"
What are your feelings on the coaching? I don't know why anyone is upset. Erstad will coach here until he no longer wants to. That's the risk you run by demanding that the schook hires former players

Honestly, Erstad is a great baseball guy and I think he can get us to Omaha. Recruiting networks take time to develop. I'm not for firing coaches as you know.

However, I don't know what our offensive philophy is. We have no power hitters so I'll assume we want to win with small ball, pitching and defense. With that said, our OBP is crap and we have some of the worst stolen base numbers in the league. So things don't equate.

What exactly would you like to blame Erstad for?

He threw his best pitcher today who gave up 5 runs. Conversely, Yale's best pitcher has given up 1 run on 4 or 5 hits and we just had a missile hit right up the middle, which hit the back of the Yale pitchers foot and deflected right to the 2nd basemen who threw out our runner. When Yale's hitter hit Jake earlier in the game, it deflected between the 3rd baseman and short stop for a hit. Then, Yale's pitcher hits Jake in the batters box, and the umpire rules that he didn't make enough of an effort to get out of the way??? Instead of runner on 1st w/no outs, we have 1 out with no men on. Even the announcers saying all breaks going Yale's way so far.
