I've been on the same flights as Little Richard, Evander Holyfield, and some other celebs, but the only minor celeb I ever sat directly next to was Tonea Stewart, a reasonably successful television actress and acting professor. I was a high school senior on my way home from a conference in DC. Changing planes in Atlanta, flight was delayed, just a mess. I was trying to get home for prom and was so frustrated that I was going to be late, miss dinner, etc. Anyway, finally got on the plane and this very nice lady was sitting there. We talked and she couldn't have been more gracious. A year later I see her on "In the Heat of the Night" while watching TV in Sessums.

My mom sat next to Iron Eyes Cody on a flight once. He was the crying Indian in the pollution commercials in the 70s. (Not native American at all, it turned out - his heritage was Italian!)

I was on Air Force One from Dallas to Washington on Nov. 22, 1963 and then on AFO on August 9, 1974 from Washington to California. Now if you had asked what famous people I sat next to on a Grayhound bus I could give you some stories.

1. in the 70's on the flight from ATl-Tuscaloosa-Columbus I sat by a ballerina from Buffalo, NY who was going to be in Tuscaloosa for a couple of weeks. I've always wanted to have relations with a ballerina. I got her phone number, and called her the next week. No luck - maybe it was the slobber on the airplane that put her off.

2. Late 80's, Delta LAX-ATL. I wound up in the midst of a bunch of hard-bodied hot chicks. They were pretty rowdy, and all had satin jackets that sad "GLOW" on the back. Didn't find out until much later what that meant: "Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling"

3. Atl-LAX. Father Guido Sarducci.

Kinda weird. DMC and Jam Master Jay sat right behind me in coach, and RUN was in first class. Atlanta to Jackson.

I sat right behind Tommy Lasorda once. Nice guy. He spoke to everyone who recognized him and said hello. I also met Garth Brooks and Congressman Sonny Montgomery in airports(different airports/different times). Sonny was much more interesting to talk with than Garth.

With my first job, I traveled quite a bit so I was upgraded fairly often. Most "famous" I guess was Ted Nugent from Gulfport to Atlanta, and no one really cared he was on the flight. I sat to a lot of "powerful" people, such as the Chief Technology Officer for XM Radio (some Greek guy, Stell something-other, kind of stuffy till we started drinking) and the then CEO of Delta Airlines. I noticed this guy was getting the second best treatment I've ever seen on a Delta flight. I'm flipping through Sky magazine and see his picture. I look over at him and he just smiles and says "Yeah".

But, the one story that really sticks out was on a flight from ATL to Seattle. I'm in the first row aisle seat, and no one is beside me. The flight attendant asks if I'd be willing to move to the second row window. I hate window seats.I guess she noticed the hesitation in my eyes, and simply said they had someone special they'd like to move to the front. So I begrudgingly get up and move, figuring they just bumped me to a window for Flava Flav or some ******* like that. A few minutes later they bring up a young boy who is obviously going through cancer treatments and his mother. About this time I feel like a real douchebag. This little boy received the absolute best treatment I've even seen on a flight, and rightfully so. This was post 9/11, so he obviously couldn't visit the flight deck, but one of the pilots came out and spoke with him for probably 20 minutes or more. They gave him all the snacks he wanted, and kept his soda full. For the most part, he had a personal flight attendant, and smiled the entire time.

That is the most interesting person I've ever flown with, and a sobering reminder about the delicacy of life and the power of compassion.

I was also in high school - we were on a mission trip, coming back from Mexico, and parked our bus in the airport hotel parking lot. We walked into the hotel and heard a huge explosion - I thought lightning struck something right outside the hotel. We looked out the window and there was a huge piece of metal (almost as big as a car) about 10 feet from our bus. Turned out to be part of the airplane. I am still freaked out a little flying through Dallas in windy conditions.

on a flight back from DFW to JAN the 300 pound black lady taking up have my seat. As we are descending for our landing, we pass over the reservoir and she hollers to the person behind her " Look, its the OCEAN". All I could do was shake my head and smile.

Boarding a plane from Houston to SF, and I saw two guys in the waiting area with long, goofy beards. I commented to one of my traveling partners that we had ZZ Top wannabes getting on the plane. Once we all started boarding, I realized it really WAS ZZ top.

I don't know why they were flying commercial, but Frank Beard and Billy Gibbons apparently scored First Class seats, while Dusty Hill sat across the aisle from me. He was one of the most gregarious and outgoing celebrities I have ever encountered. After we took off, little kids all lined up in the aisle to get his autograph, and he happily signed for every one of them, and performed little magic tricks with some coins and cards he brought with him on the plane. He bought beer for everyone in our row. I talked to him about some of their music videos, and he pretended to agree with all of my opinions about their videos and MTV in general....it was a fun flight.

He wasn't loud or obnoxious, at least back then, and he loved talking sports.<div>
</div><div>I thought he was senile at first, but I figured out later he just can't hear worth a damn. He signed a card for me, "Art, Keep on Keepin On, and Go Dogs! Dick Vitale". I thanked him and went along my way, even though my name isn't Art. </div>

I was unsure of why too, but I think it had to do with the fact that long ago there was a huge Arab influence in the country.

Lithgow played it in the remake that was part of the movie. I liked Lithgow's version better.

I had a flight from Gulfport/Biloxi to LA, and arrived just as the restaurant/bar opened. As i stood at one end of the bar wondering if it would be too alcoholic to order a jack and coke at 10AM, i heard from the other end a gravelly voice ask for a bloody mary. Looked over and it's Bob F'n Sagat, clearly very hungover. He'd done a show at a casino the night before. I thought about striking up a convo, but his assistant was clearly positioned to run interference, so i let him deal with his hangover in peace. I took it as a sign to have my jack and coke though.

I wasn't next to him on the plane though, he was a few rows up from me.

Let that sink in. On a flight from Seattle to Atl I was sitting on 43 row middle isle. 42nd row was last row that had windows, so out of desperation we struck up a conversation. Fellow was in Navy and went from nuclear sub to sub re welding insides of missle silos. Apparently, radioactive material eats up the welds, and tubes have to be reworked every so many years. From what I understood, I believe this procedure was done in missle room often right next to tubes that were occupied. I definately thanked him for his service.

In the 80s, was flying to San Fran from Jacktown. Back then, the JAN to DFW flight used to stop in Shreveport. Eb got off there. Later in that vacation, my dad stepped onto the elevator at our hotel in San Fran with Father Knows Best, Robert Young.
