Willie said (starts at 54:40) he thinks Sidun will most likely end up at 133 after possibly a year or two at 125. Given Sidun is only a junior, I don't think anyone, including Sidun himself, knows if he will be able to make 125 effectively all four years.

The beauty of not participating beyond the rationale provided by Cael, is that it allows the competition to face off and determine where the REAL competition is. It is always fun to watch wrestling without a dog in the fight. Should be some great matches. Top seed is Iowa.
fair point.... on not having a dog in the fight. (do you think the dual record had anything to do with the decision however?)

IMHO, it had nothing to do with the decision. CS has been pretty consistent over the years at not being all that attracted to National Duals at the start of the season.

Edit: I'd also add that CS did agree to one iteration of National Duals, and then Iowa reneged on the agreement. I have no inside info on how much that influenced CS on subsequent conversations about the National Duals, but if he wasn't all that into the idea, and then reluctantly goes along to not be an impediment, and has that crap happen, I suspect that it soured him even more.

All that is true, however, Sidun himself said he expects to be a career 125.

In a few years, Sidun and Sanchez can rock-paper-scissors to determine who gets to eat more.

yeah... Cael has said that he doesnt believe you need a national duals to add credibility or even interest to the sport... I agree... at least the way it is done now. But I feel like anytime the biggest teams participate in an event... it can add interest and attraction... something the sport is looking for

Knowing Cael... he seems to run to competition / not away from it and doubtful he puts as much stock in that record as the fans do! But cant help but to wish we were involved! Like Headlock said... it is interesting to watch with no dog in the fight but I like having a little skin in the game! Its always more exciting.

Wasn't there some iteration of an national duals champion where PSU wrestled OSU for the title of number of years ago? I think it was in that dual that Nick Suriano got hurt and could not wrestle in the NCAA tourney

I personally think Cael might not view the record as a necessity to his resume. I do believe however that Cael understands that the record would mean a lot to the wrestlers that were part of it and also the fan base and supporters.
