The beauty of not participating beyond the rationale provided by Cael, is that it allows the competition to face off and determine where the REAL competition is. It is always fun to watch wrestling without a dog in the fight. Should be some great matches. Top seed is Iowa.I understand why we are not... but still kinda wish we were in this!

fair point.... on not having a dog in the fight. (do you think the dual record had anything to do with the decision however?)The beauty of not participating beyond the rationale provided by Cael, is that it allows the competition to face off and determine where the REAL competition is. All that is true, however, Sidun himself said he expects to be a career 125.Willie said (starts at 54:40) he thinks Sidun will most likely end up at 133 after possibly a year or two at 125. Given Sidun is only a junior, I don't think anyone, including Sidun himself, knows if he will be able to make 125 effectively all four years.
Which of those 16 teams are a threat to beat PSU in a dual?fair point.... on not having a dog in the fight. (do you think the dual record had anything to do with the decision however?)
In a few years, Sidun and Sanchez can rock-paper-scissors to determine who gets to eat more.Willie said (starts at 54:40) he thinks Sidun will most likely end up at 133 after possibly a year or two at 125. yeah... Cael has said that he doesnt believe you need a national duals to add credibility or even interest to the sport... I agree... at least the way it is done now. But I feel like anytime the biggest teams participate in an event... it can add interest and attraction... something the sport is looking forIMHO, it had nothing to do with the decision. CS has been pretty consistent over the years at not being all that attracted to National Duals at the start of the season.
Edit: I'd also add that CS did agree to one iteration of National Duals, and then Iowa reneged on the agreement. I have no inside info on how much that influenced CS on subsequent conversations about the National Duals, but if he wasn't all that into the idea, and then reluctantly goes along to not be an impediment, and has that crap happen, I suspect that it soured him even more.
Wasn't there some iteration of an national duals champion where PSU wrestled OSU for the title of number of years ago? I think it was in that dual that Nick Suriano got hurt and could not wrestle in the NCAA tourneyyeah... Knowing Cael... he seems to run to competition / not away from it and doubtful he puts as much stock in that record as the fans do! But cant help but to wish we were involved! Like Headlock said... it is interesting to watch with no dog in the fight but I like having a little skin in the game! Its always more exciting.
Yep, which pretty much put the final nail in that coffin.Wasn't there some iteration of an national duals champion where PUS wrestled OSU fro the title of number of years ago? I think it was in that dual that Nick Suriano got hurt and could not wrestle in the NCAA tourney
2017: #2 PSU at #1 OSU (go to 12:35 Suriano ankle injury): Bing VideosWasn't there some iteration of an national duals champion where PUS wrestled OSU fro the title of number of years ago? I think it was in that dual that Nick Suriano got hurt and could not wrestle in the NCAA tourney
I personally think Cael might not view the record as a necessity to his resume. I do believe however that Cael understands that the record would mean a lot to the wrestlers that were part of it and also the fan base and supporters.yeah... Drexel worries me.Which of those 16 teams are a threat to beat PSU in a dual?
Tan Tom can’t help himself. LOL. His opening remark is that PSU should be here and it shows what Cael thinks about things
tip to Tan Tom..worry about yourself bud
Whywould you go out of your way to make that your opening statement? No one asked about PSU. They were there to talk about their upcoming duals.Cael doesn't care what Tom says and or believes.
With that said, I don't see anything outrageous or wrong with Ryan offering that opinion. It is a majority opinion.
I'm not so sure it's a valid opinion even if it's a majority opinion. If these other teams had 7 guys on the u23 team on top of the u20 and senior level teams I bet they'd feel differently. Also Penn State is going to wrestle 6 of the teams at that event. The irony is that the opposing fan bases caring about Penn State not being there are infinitely more excited for the national duals because Penn State isn't there, because their team may actually win now...Cael doesn't care what Tom says and or believes.

When you are the dominant force in any endeavor, you get to live, rent-free, between the ears of the other combatants. Tan Tom thinks about PSU more than he would ever want anyone to know. What would you go out of your way to make that your opening statement? No one asked about PSU. I don’t know why Cryin’ Ryan is complaining about PSU not going to National Duals when Ohio State hasn’t showed up at NCAAs in years.

To me, it’s ok until he moves into flat out saying that Penn State isn’t interested in growing the sport.Cael doesn't care what Tom says and or believes.
