Marcello says the NCAA is banning hashtags on playing fields (as per his FB posting)

Have to agree with you. I thought at first it meant the players, which I would be fine with banning the players using them. They need to stay off Twitter, FB, and such ... at least on the subject of FB or whatever their sport is.

Do they have a good reason, or is it just because MSU came up with it first?

Wonder if the @ symbol is also banned

We should do @hailstate in the endzone next year just to see if it will get banned.

Now there's a tweet from @bylawblog that pretty much states administrators can make changes without mutual consent. Meaning if the home team wants it, pretty much not a damn thing they can do about it. Don't know as to the validity of that though

ByLawBlog got it wrong. He changed his post.

I hate to respond to this post because it makes it look like one of those dastardly bears is trolling, but I follow bylawblog, and I saw where he caught the mistake.

Has anyone provided a reason for this because I cannot find one.

Ridiculous

This is so dumb. TSUN can pay players thousands of dollars and let them post it on twitter and pay for Chris Jones to have sex in a bar bathroom, but we can't put a # on the field.

I didn't take it that way, I was skeptical as to the truth of it to begin with...someone did post a funny picture on twitter though. Had the HailState in the end zone then right outside the end zone had the # in front of the H

I guess it depends on the definition of "playing field". If it's the 100 yard x 50 yard space, along with the two 10 x 50 yard endzones, then it might work since the # would not be on the playing field. They'd probably change the definition if that was the case.

It really doesn't make sense. I can think of no logical reason for the ban.

Tony Barnhart or someone tweeted that he talked with Rogers Redding

and Redding said the rule only applies to the actual playing field. The hashtag could be painted on the ground out of bounds or on signs off the field of play. So if we had a thick white out of bounds stripe, we could put #hailstate in maroon in the white paint and that would be allowed.

Passing new laws and already have so many now they can`t enforce half of them. Hmmmm why does that sound familiar ?

Does this also mean we can't paint Nick Bell's number on the field anymore if we wanted to? Or paint his name and number in the end zone? That's pretty ****** IMO. You can paint your field blue or purple or bright *** red, but you can't put the number of a teammate who died during the season on your field.

Does this mean the University of Mississippi can't use Ole Miss on the field? Bullet 3 says University name not nickname. http://twitter.com/matthewcstevens/status/329759788609200130/photo/1

Time to just put that **** on every conceivable spot likely to get broadcast. Mullens visor. Mullens gloves (2). The f'n helmets. Jerseys, shoes, socks. Incorporate that **** in the f'n flip chart posters used to signal plays. Hashtag bully's ***. Every f'n cheerleader and cheerfag is sporting hashtags. Mootube, seal building. Everywhere you look is a hashtag.

I smell secondary violation and two lost schollys.
And you could bet Bracky would sign off on it.
