How about that, Rick Stansbury? How about that, Renardo? How about that, Donald?

Amazing how quickly the NCAA can operate when it is expedient to do so, isn't it?

You beat me to it.... This is not the end of it, it can't be, the NCAA is just trying to cover their *** before the BCS game.... I promise that statement would not have come out if Alabama would have won. This is BS.

but there's not much to say.

Must have taken up the NFL's position of not suspending Andre Johnson b/c he plays on the NFL network tomorrow night.

I thought there was a specific SEC rule that made any player ineligible at any SEC school if he or his family solicited money from a member institution. Care to comment on that, Slive? Because you are basically admitting that the solicitation did, in fact, occur.

“The conduct of Cam Newton’s father and the involved individual is unacceptable and has no place in the SEC or in intercollegiate athletics,” said Mike Slive, Southeastern Conference Commissioner. “The actions taken by Auburn University and Mississippi State University make it clear this behavior will not be tolerated in the SEC.”"

I'm not concerned with Auburn getting busted over this. I think they have plenty coming. Again though, i'm not looking forward to their demise b/c i still believe a strong Auburn is somewhat beneficial to us (vs a strong Bama).

I'm more concerned with how this effects us. People realize we aren't going to take it anymore, and at least for now, we aren't being portrayed as the bad guys.

A player is eligible to compete if a parent or agent solicits money from a University as long as player attends a University that does not pay the player.<div>
</div><div>Wow. This could make recruiting interesting in the future. What's to keep parents from auctioning kids if they have multiple offers (besides a soul)?</div>

Based on everything that was out in the public, it sounded like there was a violation of rules, but it was never very clear what penalties were warranted. I kind of thought Cam should have been declared ineligible before this past Monday, but I never thought Auburn was going to forfeit games.

Now, perhaps there are other facts that warrant an investigation into Auburn's recruitment of Cam, but those have not been made public. I know about the alleged phone calls, but I'm still wondering if those were even real, or just someone passing along a rumor to Joe Schad.

It doesn't state that Cecil received money from Auburn. It states that he solicited it, but Cam didn't know. I imagine Auburn is still under investigation for this and several other things that have been brought up.

The NCAA released this b/c they and the SEC needed it before the BCS game. Its probably also true (to some extent).

Cecil solicited funds.
Cam didn't know (probably knew but couldn't do anything about it).

Those are the facts in that article, and based on those facts, Cam was declared eligible.

Until evidence surfaces that he was paid by Auburn parties or at least evidence that Cecil also solicited Auburn, this is just an interim statement to give the appearance that the NCAA is on top of this. Now, the next question is, "How hard is the NCAA digging in to the Auburn side of the story". If they are still digging, this story isn't over. But, there's the chance this is over and all the digging the NCAA is going to be involved with is finished. Time will tell...

..all this released statement does is verify the intrinsically corrupt nature of the NCAA.

According to this statement, Cam Newton's father is the perpetrator of all the malfeasance; Cam is just an innocent by-stander caught in the crossfire. Which is total, demonstrable ********.

Somebody needs to create a watchdog organization that keeps the NCAA accountable. Otherwise, the NCAA will keep making decisions meant to oil the corporate money-making machine that is college football instead of offering non-biased verdicts that serve justice.

Slive knows how to shove stuff under the rug. I just wish he would get on our side. I guess we have to go to BCS bowl for that to happen. He has convienced the NCAA to totally neglect their own rules of solicitation after hiding from them the fact that all of this was going on. Is he really that powerful, persuasive?

So the answer is this.....get Slive to be a fan of MSU. Somehow.
