a restraining order has been put on cecil as it pertains to Auburn University and NCAA athletics.

What does Cecil care? He wasn't attending another game at Auburn anyway. Cam will be in the pros next year.

All the article says is that Cecil solicited money, but to the NCAA's knowledge Cam wasn't aware.
is the same as Cecil attempting to sell him.Remember THAT is agaistNCAA rules (or WAS)by itself whethermoney changed hands or not.Cecil made the decision where he went. Cam himself said that.

and found no problem so the NCAA took their word.

Well, I hope neither program has anything come of this. If you think Auburn has something comming though, you are mistaken. They were cleared. I wonder if you guys will have your coach next year? Sounds like his staff is out of control...

This is all due to bad timing. The ncaa is making this ruling now because they HAVE to. People are looking at this wondering if Cam will play in national championship, is auburn screwed or are they clear. These things take time and based on the timeline left and the evidence at hand they had to make this decision. In 6 to 12 months you may see the facts come out and ncaa retract all this. Its easy for them to say he is eligble to play and auburn wins it all, then later take it from them. However, it is impossible to take it from them now and keep them from playing for the title and then realizing they made a mistake. Based on the simplicity of their statement this has to be the most viable scenario.

Cam's call to one of our coaching saying "Sorry, but the money was too much." It seems that would qualify as an admission of knowledge. I guess there was no evidence or something.

I am all for an SEC team winning the NC, but I might lose my wig if Cecil gets away with all this stuff. I have never really had a huge problem with Auburn, but part of me wants them to burn for all this.

**** this is 17ing hilarious. So, this sets a precedence that you can pay for players as long as they "don't know about it." Holy hell what a joke the NCAA is. If only RS would have told the NCAA that he "didn't know." He would have gotten to play last year and we might have one or two less C34/FishH20 threads during basketball season to enlighten us. What a can of worms this has opened. From now on anytime there is a question as to whether or not a player is given money they're gonna pull this card out. Good job NCAA.

....something ofa precedence of the NCAA declaring someone eligible, then coming back and declaring them ineligible. See the Derrick Rose situation at Memphis, where he was actually cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse and declared eligible to play. After the season was over, the NCAA ruled that he cheated on his ACT and declared him ineligible and vacated all of the victories from that year (when they went to the NCAA finals).

The circumstances, or reasons for potential ineligibility, aren't the same as the Newton case, but declaring him immediately eligible right now certainly does not prevent the NCAA from coming back and throwing the book at Auburn later. A good portion of this is damage control because it will be extremely embarrassing for the NCAA and the SEC to have this come to a head before the BCS championship. Once we get to the offseason, all bets are off.

I've seen conspiracy theorists claim that if Auburn were 8-4, none of this would've come out, and that's ********. If Auburn were 8-4, Cam Newton wouldn't be playing football right now, in my opinion.

Through all of this I keep hearing that the NCAA doesn't want another vacated MNC, but what do they have to gain or lose one way or the other? They don't award the MNC, the BCS does. As I understand it, the NCAA doesn't see a dime from the bowl season. I could see the SEC having problems with this and thus urging the NCAA to act quickly, but I don't see the NCAA doing it because they are upset about vacating a BCS championship. Correct me if my understanding is wrong however.

That call and statement was made to Megan Mullen. That's why she was questioned by the NCAA and FBI. That's also why Finebaum attacked her so viciously.

/Im pretty sure this is far from over.

The NCAA wouldn't declare Renardo eligible b/c he couldn't remember how his dad paid for a trip to California whenhe was in 9thgrade. Yet they have no problem with an "I didn't know from Cam" when he was what, 20?

As dirty and corrupt as the NCAA is, they might would be willing to sweep this under the rug, but I think they know that they can't open up this loophole without thewhole house of cards falling down. If parents getfree reign to shop their kids, all the sudden a ton of the money that gets funnelled through the schoolswillnow end up in parents' pockets before iteven hits the books. Even if Auburn were innocent in the whole thing, I would expect the NCAA to make up something to hammer themon just to avoid parents of athletes all the sudden taking a huge chunk of the revenue that would have gone to the NCAA and its different movers and shakers.

Really? Had not heard that Megan was interviewed by anyone. Did you read this somewhere or just hear it through the grapevine? Just curious.

God, I hope so, especially in the light of the RSS ruling. 17ing 44 17ing game suspension over a grand or so that his dad got when he was in 9th grade that he had no knowledge of, let alone control over. Now, we have a 20 year old college aged adult whose father was pimping him out shrugging his shoulders saying "I didn't know what dad was doing, I just let him pick my school for me" and the NCAA & the SEC say, "Okey-dokey, we believe you."

Don't think this is over by a long shot. In the short run it sucks for us but Bama fans are really gonna be butthurt.

According to reports, ole Albert Means didn't "know nutting 'bout nutting" and the money went to his HS coaches.

Guess this NCAA 'ruling' would make that legal ... unless you have to be related. We need to see the fine print.

We now know to be true 2 things:

1. Cecil was shopping Cam Newton...based on the NCAA statement
2. Cecil made the ultimate decision where Cam went to school...based on the S.I. interview w/ the two.

So we're to believe nothing happened between action #1 and action #2? Common sense says bullsh*t.

he loves to pat himself on the back over on Bulldawg Junction and he may be right about something 20% of the time. I could bring up about a million things during Camgate he has been wrong about. He is as Steve is to Genespage. He thinks he is a message board god/hero and the posters worship him.
