Obviously we all want to get into the tournament. It would be a great accomplishment.

If we don’t get in, we would probably accept a NIT invite. 2 years ago we won the NIT and went onto having the worst season maybe ever. With the transfer portal nowadays you don’t want to play deep into March/April. Remember when we accepted the NIT invite, Sha left it up to Richmond/Dawes/Davis. Is it worth it to accept a NIT invite or better to get a head start on the portal?

I think we are obligated to go to the Crown if we don’t make the tournament depending upon our standings. If it was up to me, I wouldn’t bother. Just get started on the portal and retaining your players

I don't think an NIT bid is even an option/possible. The Big East is contractually obligated to send at least two teams to the basketball crown. Assuming the league continues to get 4-6 bids on average, plus 2 teams to the crown, I think it's unlikely the 8th or 9th place teams gets/accepts an NIT bid.

I hope everyone enjoyed the NIT games at Walsh in 2024 because that was most likely the last quality opponent/electric environment you will ever see at Walsh. That was her swan song.

EDIT: For example, the first Big East team that was eligible for an NIT bid last year was 8th place Providence (12-20).

Never say never in this landscape of college basketball. The style of the game, recruiting & NCAA structure are totally different from just a few years ago.

Good point. I'm not sure going to and winning the NIT contributed to our demise the following year. That was just a major multi-track train wreck.
If we don't go to the Crown, are we fined; do we have no choice?

For those of us long-in-the-tooth, the NIT still has historic and emotional juice: 1953, then our exciting Renaissance and return v. Memphis State in 1974. The full houses at the Garden, and St, John's (Looie) and Marquette (Al McGuire) choosing it over the NCAA. Getting really good teams back in the day when conferences only sent their tournament winners. Watched Manhattan beat a North Carolina team with Charlie Scott and George Karl in 1970 on a Sat. afternoon. Second game was Bob Knight's Army v. Cincinnati. Two good tickets for $13. But I digress.....

If we're not in the NCAA's I care that we're addressing why we weren't in them. Not so much concerned about any of these joke tournaments.

No, unless it's a big payout if we win.

We only go to the crown if we are the first 2 BE teams to not make the tourney?
How is that decided? If three teams go, are the next two BE teams who didn't make it determined by final conference standings?

This year, those teams could likely be finishers 4 and 5.
