What about split conferences that only have 2 1A teams. Like the Conference North Moore is in, Chatham Central is the only other 1A team in the conference and they only have 1 win. Will they get seeded as a 2nd place finisher or at-large?

So from my understanding in that conference you would have at least 2 automatic qualifiers due to having 7 teams. They could have three teams automatically qualify if the same classification comes in 1st & 2nc (example if, Cummings and Graham finished 1st & 2nd, and North Moore finished 3rd, North Moore would also qualify since they are the top 1A finisher).

Since Chatham Central will not win their classification (and will not finish 2nd overall), they will not automatically qualify. Right now I believe North Moore and Cummings would be seeded with conference champs in their respective classifications based on their RPI.

North Moore 2-0
Cummings (2A) 3-0
Graham (2A) 1-1
Chatham Central 1-2
Bartlett Yancey (2A) 1-2
Jordan-Matthews (2A) 0-3
Seaforth (2A) 0-0

On a side note: Since Seaforth does not have a football team, not sure if this would count as a 6 or 7 team conference. However, with the standings, it won't make a difference. Both North Moore and Cummings meet the criteria to be seeded with conference champs in their classification.

Seeding
• Conference champions will be seeded before any other qualifying teams by RPI rating
• All other teams will be seeded after the conference champions by RPI rating of the school, regardless of conference finish
• Each region (East/West) will be seeded independently of one another, utilizing the RPI rating of the school

From everything Ive read there isn't like a at- large or wildcards. There's 64 teams in the playoffs the east only has 31 so everyone gets in with one team getting a bye. In the west 2 teams won't get in and I assume the 2 who are ranked 33 & 34 in the RPI will be the two out.

The whole East gets a bye?

No just 1 team...all will get in.. unless they decide to change the rules like from 64 to 32 teams it's the only way I see they can do it with 32 in the east and 32 in the west with the east having only 31 teams I can only assume the top ranked team will get a bye.
The thing is when you talk about other sports you may have all 107 1A schools participating and a 64 team bracket okay but the should have made an exception for football. Wrestling is 32 they should have done that.

From what I read the top two seeds from each conference will get the first 12 seeds - and then the remaining teams will be seeded based on rpi ratings.
My question about Chatham central is if they are treated as a 2nd place finisher they will get the 12 seed….if they are treated as a regular qualifier they will get the 27 seed based on their RPI.

I think we only have 30 teams in the East. I don’t think Colombia is playing anymore this year so likely the top 2 seeds will get a bye. 3-30 seeds will have to win 6 games to win the state championship.

Also what would the first round matchups look like in the East? Or is it kinda to early to tell?

I gotta feeling North moore gonna be the one seed lol. Especially if they beat Cummings. Gonna be getting home late 😂
North Moore has more riding on the Cummings game then Tarboro , obviously for the main reason if they lose it pretty much guarantees Tarboro gets #1 in the East ( of course I'm assuming they win their remaining games). But even if NM wins and both teams win their remaining games including this Friday, NM is only ahead of Tarboro in RPI rating .634 to .613 so it's still possible for Tarboro to over take NM depends on how well your opponents do outside of playing you.

Chatham Central is #27 at the moment but they'll be seated according to their RPI with everyone else. It's just two separate seatings .. conference champions according to their RPI, then everyone else according to their RPI doesn't matter where they finished in their conference.

Tarboro hasn't been in this position in years. How are they 3RD in the east, is that top 10 overall? My buddy kids plays on Tarboro, said a drop-off but compared to other east teams not so much. Tarboro will win the East hands down. These other one hit wonders will choke

I guess technically they're tied for 2nd and 3rd with Northside Pinetown in the East they both have a RPI rating of .613
Overall they with that rating they both would be in 4th place with Mitchell in the West who also has a rating of .613 #1 North Moore in the East would be #3 in the West as it stands now.
Of course that won't mean anything once the playoffs starts, it's all just for seeding purposes and there's still a chance for Tarboro to go to #1 in the East almost guaranteed if NM loses to Cummings.

Right now in the East you have to get to #10 before you have a team above .500 (#10 is at .600) there are 3 teams from #11-20 that are .500.
In the West from #11-20 there are 4 teams .500 #14 is .677 and #12 .857 (though #12's opponents only have average winning percentage of 33%.)
Plus #9 & 10 each are only at .500 themselves.
So I believe this shows that a 32 team playoffs would have been plenty.

On both sides the first 2 rounds will be major blowouts. 3rd could get interesting, especially in the West.

Did anybody notice that then #15 Swain defeated then # 13 Robbinsville and jumped to #3. #21 Cherokee defeated then #3 Andrews and moved only to #18. I would like to see the math on that.

Swain ...wp 0.600×30% = .18
opw 0.753× 40%= .3012
oopw 0.465× 30%=. .1395
.18 + .3012 + .1395 = 0.621RPI

Cherokee ..wp 0.500 × 30%= .15
opw 0.489 × 40% = .1956
oopw. 0.446 × 30% = .1338
.15 + .1956 + .11338 = 0.479 RPI

There are 17 teams with a higher RPI then .479 which makes Cherokee #18

There are only 2 teams with a RPI higher then .621 which makes Swain #3
