I think NB, WF and CG are the 3 best teams in the East. Hillside is right there. NB may be playing at a different level right now. Their offense is rolling and their def is shutting everyone down.

It's still hard to guage New Bern, at least for me. The reason being their schedule, which is due mainly to where they're located. They did beat Maury, the sixth rated team in Virginia. It'll be interesting to see how far they go in the playoffs.

can anyone tell us about #5 Cleveland? I see where Simmons has them ranked 18th in 4A with a SOS of 74.

I agree with you. Maury is a solid win for sure. I have seen Havelock and Rose and they are solid teams. NB has beaten both 81-7. Not many teams in the East would beat those two teams that bad.

They beat New Hanover by 37. New Hanover beat Butler. Butler is pretty good, I think. New Bern also just beat JH Rose, 54-7. The same Rose team that went to the title game last year. We have 3 coaches on the staff with head coaching experience and two of them have coached in state championships. The Bears ran for 334 yards on Maury, no other team has sniffed that on them.

I left out the NH game as I have not seen them in person. Still trying to figure out how they beat Butler. NB is rolling and they will be a difficult out. Will NB be able to play clean throughout the playoffs. I know NB had some turnovers last year against Rolesville but great teams have to avoid turnovers in order to win it all. Many teams turn the ball over deep in the playoffs and that’s because of the other team too. I was talking to a guy last week and he brought up Hoggard losses to PC and Rolesville in the playoffs and how if we hadn’t turned it over. Well, there was a lot of talent on that field and they had guys making plays. NB runs the ball a lot and they will have to hold onto the ball if they are going to make a deep run.

The QB last year is no longer at the school. The new QB has had very few turnovers this year and is more explosive as a runner. Knock on wood, we've been healthy the entire year and hopefully that continues for the next several weeks. Our 4 * DT was banged up last year and only played 1 full quarter against Rolesville with that big cast on his hand and just wasn't impactful. He's on a mission this year and is the leader of a defense that is extremely physical.

Staying healthy is very important. Hoggard dealing with major injuries this season which will kill our chances of a deep run.

I think Chambers and Mallard Creek should switch spots.
Man I agree with you . But the higher powers controls who they want up front its crazy .... But its football . Just like the whole stars B.S ... Its a kid with 32 sacks in 2 seasons & he not even a 3 star...... 🤔

Chambers and Mallard Creek have the same record yet Mallard Creek has the best win of the two teams which is Hough. I think it’s common sense but what so i know lol

Good question
Cleveland is solid. Don’t have the size that say a New Bern team does. Sophomore quarterback is really good. He is a athletic quarterback that can both pass from the pocket or on the run or pick up the first down if needed. They have a deep receiving core. Leading receiver #8 is a Sr. but has been leading the team in receiving yards since his sophomore year. Running game would grade out as good.

So far as schedule goes, they are in an eight team conference, meaning that they only played three out of conference games. (Huge disadvantage compared to schools in six team conferences that can choose five out of conference games). Plus their conference is one of the weaker conferences in 4A East . For comparison, week 2 they beat J.H. Rose 43-28 and week 3 they beat DH Conley 34-23.

They sound balanced especially on offense. The schedule explanation makes sense, I am sure they would like to schedule different teams across the state

Defense is balanced as well. Really are solid at all three levels. Have as much or more depth on both sides of the ball as any of the other prior 11 years.

Rose, Havelock and Jacksonville. Rose played for the title last year and Jacksonville played Catholic in the title game a few years ago. Havelock is Havelock. Our entire starting O and D have been playing together for years and are all seniors. Think we’ll end up putting 4/5 guys onto D1 rosters. Hoping for a nice little run here coming up.

NB conference is much better than it was before the changes. What has impressed me the most about NB has been their defense. I knew their offense would be a force this year but they are shutting teams down. Would WF or CG beat Rose 54-7? Would they beat Havelock 27-0? Maybe, but that puts NB right there with the best in the East.
