SP is undefeated but, they have not played a tough schedule. The next 2 games will tell if they should be #9 in this poll. They have not trailed in the first 5 games. How will they react if they are trailing ? Questions? Crest is always an interesting game.

Raider why does SP not play a tougher non-conference schedule? Just curious.

Wished I knew. We used to play Clover and others. We have played Lincolnton for awhile now. Of course we are going to play EG it's.a rivalry. RS Central scheduled for the last 2 years but, did not play them last because of COVID-19. Played Hickory Ridge instead. Having 7 conference games and only 3 non conference.

The Big South usually has tough teams too. I just expected 1 of the 3 non conference games to be tough.

There’s only a few GOOD teams on this list but no GREAT teams. Majority of these teams just don’t play anyone or haven’t thus far.

This is the best chance KM has had. Overall down year in 3A and one of the best defenses they've ever had.
I would agree this is the best defense of squad I have seen from Kings Mountain. I would also agree this is the best chance for us to win a state championship but you never know when you get in the playoffs.

The only position group that’s really good on the defense is the defensive line. That can hide a lot of the other weaknesses throughout regular season play. We all have different definitions of what’s good, great and elite though.

What area of the defense would you say is weak. I would agree that the d-line is the best position group

I wouldn’t say weak cause they have decent players at every position but outside of the defensive line the rest of the defense is not that great. I don’t see one elite DB or LB on the team. The defensive line just makes their job easy.
on the offensive end they are going to miss number 1 they had at WR last year because now they don’t have anyone that can stretch the field deep. The only good RB is 21, the others are decent. The coach has to scheme up a lot of plays to get the WRS open because they don’t have anyone that can just go get it so they run design plays and usually the quarterback already has his mind made up on who he is throwing too. You take the first option away and the play is pretty much dead. I played and coached before and it’s a lot you can see just from one game. They have a lot of weaknesses that could get exposed in the playoffs. It’s about match ups!!! Not saying they don’t have a great shot but if they lose its because of this.

I would say the whole running back group is really good they are 4 deep with a good offensive line. I would agree our passing game is up and down have decent receivers not great. Next week against South Point will be a test with there big offensive line to see how our quick d-line does against them. I think the biggest plus this year for our team is that we are pretty deep except quarterback

Here is what seperates this KM team against previous in my lowly opinion.. two names Richardson and Simpson
Those two coming off the edge is a holy terror and anyone that has played them can attest to that fact.. They are in the backfield so fast disrupting everything and its just a different feeling with that defensive front... . They are that fast to the ball.... If your team has a weakness on the offensive line, they will exploit it and make them look really bad, and have every team so far.

They stay healthy, they go a LONG way this season.... Previous seasons they have had numerous injuries, and a plus this year is depth, they have a lot of it, save the Qb position..

The defense line reminds me a lot of those great defense lines that Crest and Shelby has had in the past

SP doesn’t have the skill players to win that game. I’d actually be surprised if it’s a close game.

Do you think Crest matches up better with Kings Mountain then South Point. I know Crest has great athletes but I heard the O- line is really young and I am hoping we can run on there defense

Nope it’s the opposite, I think crest has the better skill players at certain positions but wont be able to stop KM’s run game.

What teams in 3a will give Kings Mountain the biggest issue. I know Dudley will be good. I don’t know many teams in the East

Yeah I’ve seen Dudley scrimmage chambers and they are better than their record says. I’m curious to see about East Lincoln also in the west they have some size, a quarterback and a few play makers. They also got a really good LB and Corner. I just can’t judge how good they really are because I’m not familiar with the teams they are beating besides statesville who is down this year. They look like they could be a bad match up for KM on film though. The East is weak imo, I could go down the list of the teams in the East and explain why but that would be a lot. Whoever wins the west should win as long they stay healthy and play their game.

I don’t have one, I’m just a fan of the game . I’ve also been around a lot of top players across the state as they were coming up. I really just started keeping up with 3A football some last year, before it was just 4A for me.

I agree with some of your assessment and disagree with some of your assessment. The db’s and lb’s are solid. I think trying to two platoon early in the season hurt them against Shelby. After that game they made an adjustment with a couple of guys that were only playing offense against Shelby. We found out that the secondary guys will have to play both ways. I agree that we have some opportunity at lb. Our inside lb play worries me. One of the middle lb’s gets blocked or misses tackles in space way too much. I agree that something like this can haunt you later if you don’t fix it. The other two guys #7 and #5 are solid. No need to mention the d-line.
On the offensive side of the ball KM will go as far as their qb play. As far as the passing game, I agree a lot of it is scheme but also it looks like the qb only as one option most passing plays. QB has to be trusted a little more with decision making in the passing game. Lack of qb mobility hurts offense some. I disagree about wr’s though. They are a solid group across the board with one young guy that will continue to get better and be a breakout star for KM in conference play and playoffs. KM has a group of solid backs and I agree that Jeffries is the best of the bunch. Special teams is pretty solid all the way around with a great kicker. The punter needs a little more leg but other than that a solid group. OL depth is a concern.
In the end it is a team game so the parts have to fit. You can’t have an all star team every year but you can put a solid across the board product on the field. This year in NC being solid is enough. Yes I am a KM fan but I also know football. If I think the coaches could have done a little more or we are not there as a team I say it loud and clear. We have definitely laid our share of eggs over the years. I’ve butted heads with other KM fans and coaches on this very site lol. I think KM has grown as a program in multiple ways. The future is bright for the program and there is a lot of talent in the pipe line. I think KM will definitely contend for state titles this year and the next two after.

Hard to stop when they put in the Nasty package on offense and you have AJ and Jeffries or Robert Kendrick

I’m leaning towards Crest. What about you?
I will definitely say Crest has played better competition for sure, and also Crest has overall better athletes. I just don’t know if the Crest defense can get off the field to give there offense a chance to put up a lot of points. I think this will be a great game and the game being played at South Point I think I will give the edge to South Point but could go either way.

I completely agree with everything you said, that’s why it’s tough to pick. Both team’s strengths are the others weakness.

You have a (1) game lens of what you think SP is. We NEVER have athletes and find ways to win with 180lb kids. This year we actually do have some athletes. I'm not saying we beat KM or even beat Crest but you think because you saw Dudley walk over them in the playoffs last you you have them figured out. You're wrong.

Your breakdowns of teams are pretty good. I find myself agreeing with you on most of the other teams that I’ve seen. The only difference is I know what type of athletes are waiting in the wings that most don’t know about yet because they haven’t seen them. I do agree that Dudley will be an obstacle to overcome because of the way they play and their size in the trenches. I think we get them this year because of our offensive balance. I definitely do not want to see Dudley in a game where it’s too wet to pass the ball efficiently.

Appreciate it, I like talking ball with you. Your right, you would know more about that than I do. I just watch teams and really get a feel for what they do and have on the field. As far as KM goes, if I’m a coaching against them I would honestly rather them try and beat my team passing the ball.
