The SMC is bout as overrated as the SEC. I believe everyone on these message boards understands that SMC football is extremely physical and run oriented. However, no SMC poster understands that football is going away from that. Football teams at every level: high school, college, NFL are relying on more speed/athleticism. Maybe if you’d get off that mountain or outta 1A you guys would realize it.

Besides Tarboro this year who do you wanna see that’s faster and more athletic in 1A?
Pretty much any solid eastern team will have more team speed than East Surry. And you don't think piedmont schools like North Rowan, Mountain Island, etc don't have more team speed than East Surry? That doesn't mean they're a better TEAM than East Surry but more team SPEED certainly.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but other than the Gosnells your team doesn't have any speed to write home about, I saw that in person 2 years ago and on TV last year.
If East had anywhere near the speed you think they do then then why arent they successful in 1A track relays? I'd wager that Murphy has had much more success in 1A track relays over the years the East Surry has. So if football is all about speed/athleticism these days where does that leave East Surry most years?

How many state championships have you won with speed / athleticism ?
We saw speed athleticism in the state championship game after 3 fumbles from power mountain football the rest as they say is on the scoreboard.
How many times over the years have I heard the same thing said and how many times does an SMC school still win ?
Speed and athleticism is great until it gets knocked on it's back 3 or 4 times then it isn't as fast anymore
I agree with you up to the track relay part. In this area, track is for girls and people who aren’t good at anything else. That isn’t a knock on track as a whole, but more of a statement of how it is perceived by a lot of the better athletes in the area. If you took the best athletes/fastest runners from Starmount, MA and ES, a VERY small percentage run track.
Baseball is king in that season around here always has been track is much more of an afterthought until very recently!
The Murphy style gut-stomped these same Cards two years ago. Would LOVE to see them back here again. Besides, you lost your best asset ... Coach Diamont.
What a JOKE not the same cards and new coach has the team in a much better scheme to fit the players he has than what coach Diamont went to Murphy with. I don’t think this game would be within 14 points this season don’t hide those players in your basement this year and come on down to pilot mountain!!
Coach Diamont was holding the program back trying to play SMC style football with the athletes he had. It wasn’t a coincidence ES went to the State Championship the following year he left.
Take the Gosnell’s off of ES and ES is still superior athletically to any team in the SMC.
Without the Gosnells East Surry has just as many athletes running a 4.6 as the entire SMC conference
I’m trying to understand where all this chest thumping is coming from. What has ES accomplished in football? I’ll hang up and listen.
It’s not chest thumping we aren’t saying we are better than the SMC historically (we are clearly not). However athletically this year it’s not even close. Yes there are other teams that may play with or beat East this season styles make fights but to say the SMC has just as much ATHLETICISM is just false!!!!

ESGuru and esod give up ,we know where our cards stand ,ive found these forums to be full of Murphy ,ma ,Mitchell whoever else ,all they wanna talk about is how great they are ,and soon as someone else mentions a good team they wanna try to put them down ,if these teams didn't land in small 1 a every year they wouldn't have much to brag about ,with a little luck ,they might meet ole cards from plot this year ,and have their asses handed to them ,I believe most of these posters never played any ball or could have ,say all the crap you want east Surry has a damn good team ,sorry we are allowed to talk about it on here lol!

It's so funny to say back off the chest thumping,when I first came on this forum ,no one period had ne thread about East Surry ,everyone else bragging about their team ,now I start a East thread and they can't stand it .
Uhhh the last year Mitchell was in 1aa, they went to state. Out of the final 4; James kenan, WRH, Mitchell and Walkertown, Mitchell was the only team with true 1a numbers. The other 3 went 2a the next year. The last year Murphy was 1aa, the beat the snot out of East Surry, and made it to the 4th round. And Murphy wasn't as good in 17 as they were last year, maybe 16 either. So you were saying?

Nope. Mitchell can't get past that crappy SMC with all their state titles. We must really suck lol. And when you state ******** such as East has 6 players that faster than 4.6, we all know how knowledgeable you really are. 4.6 is really fast. There is probably less than 10 NFL players that run a legit 4.4 or faster.
Haven’t seen any Mitchell fans on here saying how great they are, or how they’d beat down Murphy and give Tarboro a game. Lol funny..

ES guru ,Card dad that's proud of this team ,been following this team closely since 15 season ,got spoiled with that team ,that was the first team diamont let play out of his style ,honestly I love to get these people going ,I'm not a fool ,I know east isn't unbeatable ,but they are real good this year .Tarboro is the real deal , respect that team big time ,watched them at state ,one solid team ,honestly until east tightens their defense ,they will not contend with them ,and yes I respect murphys program ,I was at that game two years ago ,and east just plain got beat physically ,I think East team is the best they have fielded,I feel they will not be tested until they play Reidsville ,if defense doesn't step up ,Reidsville will win big time ,I think they may need to play a couple players both ways to have a chance against a Tarboro style team ,and then on the other hand ,offensively east is unreal ,I think Starmount will be a good game ,but. Say east pulls away 42 21,.
